Man, everytime i hear that "Thank you for being my friend" and then immediately receive the Loyal Cerberus Key, i feel like an absolute piece of shit. Always makes me cry...
The fact that old man let his dog go through the Gestalt process in his stead probably hit me the hardest. Really shows how precious pets, especially dogs are to us.
Out of all the Shade bosses, this is the most reactionary. Roc was willing to allow humanity one last chance after everything that happened but the people of the city unknowingly wasted that chance. This was just the end of a brutal cycle of revenge that resulted in the extinction of a species that was only trying to fight back.
Wolves aren't extinct, as later on, the Masked Woman Shadow said she's looking out for the wolves and the Party didn't thinks that's weird, so there are still other wolf packs in the desert.
I just noticed something, aww shit. At 17:38 the adviser says "A foolish king attracts a foolish people," this is because of the guys willing to go to war with the wolves. In the next scene we see Roc say to the wolves to escape, but they decide to remain. The king and Roc are plenty alike, both 'foolish kings' who attract foolish people, a shame neither could speak to one another even though Roc clearly understood his words.
I remember playing this game back in 2012 when my dog passed away. She was very old, but like Roc, she was a very loyal, loving animal. I kept playing the game as a form of escapism, but I came across this scene only 2 days after she passed. I cried so damn hard I stopped playing for another 2. 6 Years later and this scene still hurts. Oh Yoko Taro, you insane, drunken, depressed genuis. Thank you so much for these experiences no other game has given me.
@@tehmiyash and it did! I cried so hard that scene, most i've ever cried in any game. And every time i rewatch that scene on youtube i cry even more. wtf.
This will forever be the saddest moment in gaming for me... I played this last when I was 14. Fyra, a Girl with no last name, no home, no money, no roof over her head, no love, probably no hope. Lost everything the day she gained it all. This hit me SO hard, it's a moment I remember all too well even till today at 22.
For me, the betrayal of the wolves overshadowed any sympathy that I had for Fyra. I just felt so ridiculously sad for them and how unfair their lives are. How selfish human's can be
They showed clips of the scenes in this part of the story at the London Concert today during Gods Bound By Rules. It took so much just to hold back the tears, both for the agony the wolves went through but also the death of Fyra.
My God...how the hell does Kaine even stay sane if Tyrann enables her to hear what the Shades are really saying...? ;_____; And to think this could have all been avoided, if not for misunderstandings....
MunRe Tyrann will be overcome Kaine, when she stops fighting. When he’s doing that, than Shadow-Kaine will be worser than Shadowlord. You should blame Tyrann.
I knew something was wrong the minute I started killing the wolves early on and they made that unforgettable dog moan of pain. And then this scene happened...I just put the game down, went to my dog and hugged her then repeated the old man's line "thank you, for being my friend". And then to see the final endings I had to bloody well do it a second time! Damn it!
Before all i was like meh, kinda understand why it is sad, but the near very last word the leader said moved me, almost crying. Typical but really touching how they timed it "What have we done to deserve... such a fate?" Think about the animals these days becoming extinct because of us. This games gives a lot of perspective, Danm this is one hack of a sad game. Now I understand why he is the loyal Cereberus. T.T;....
@hellblood9 By the looks of it, Roc (the wolf shade) was holding back the others from attacking the people because he believed that both species could live side by side. However, once the people came and butchered most of the pack (plus pups), something in Roc's head snapped, and that's why the whole wolf-assult took place. In other words, 'Soldiers drew first blood'.
Just when you thought this game couldn't get anymore depressing than it already is. You have to see this scene. This is my favorite scene in the game. Poor fucking Roc :/
Rule # 25 in Video Game Celebrations: Weddings/funerals always end in the death of the husband and/or bride, usually through the actions of a party wronged by people associated with said husband/bride.
Neither side wants to fight... they're both afraid of what the others will do... it's so terribly sad! Especially because... they can understand our language, but we can't understand theirs...
@IIyana08 You forget, Kaine and Tyrann LIVE for the slaughter. They fight because they have nothing left....That, and Tyrann is a sadistic prick who will tear Kaine's body apart from the inside out if he doesn't get what he wants. Which is more killing.
Oh god... this game... wtf first I thought it got a nice story and a lot of backstory... and I thought about the shades from the first time but I really NEVER thought about something this sad... they are really want to make us feel like the devils...
MAN i love Weisses Fists, when ever they hit things the sound itself is awesome, but the Cutscenes of their pwnage is EPIC, i wish i could find that sound effect somewhere, cheers for the upload :D
and then butchered their kids and family as we cheer for the happily newly wed. then crippled all the wolves pack permanently. Humans are such wonderful beings
Exactly! I feel bad for her (she had a hard, tragic life), but she feels her need for revenge supersedes all of the innocent lives they trample on in the quest. Fuck!!!
@IIyana08 After I posted this comment, I went looking around as to why she doesn't do anything, and apparently in the NieR wiki, it says that she convinced herself that they were all evil no matter what... :/ Which is still pretty sad.
Woah this is so sad....;_; Thanks Omega for showing us this great game ^^ This is a game just like those games from the past (Suikoden II, Wild Arms,Terranigma, etc.): They want to show us things we wouldn´t think about, but are just as important as the obvious things... sorry if this sentence isn´t quite right, just a beginner in english :D
Each time a game company puts in an Animal Boss fight in their game i feel like they're saying "Fuck you" to all animal lovers... sure it's awesome to Fight a Primal and Savage battle with an Honorable Creature but i can never bring myself to finish it. ;_; Rest in Peace Grand Wolf.
I was killing wolves in Black Desert Online, and I made my ex girlfriend cry, good lord and to think we tried to play this game together, oh my god I didn’t actually know what I was about to put us through 😭😭😭😭
IIyana08 Because of Tyrannt. When Kaine doesn‘t kill/fight. Tyrannt will overcome Kaine. And in Ending C and D you can see the result. The project Gestalt is a failure, the fate of man is doomed.
Roc's a more sympathetic character than pretty much anyone in the game. I do think that NG+ is incredibly ham fisted in its moralizing, however. I mean, you have a group of people who're like 'Oh, dur, y r teh wolves attacking us?' after creating a huge slaughter pit and killing dozens of them for the sake of it. They know Roc's intelligent, so to think he wouldn't retaliate is inexplicably dense on their part. Sod that. In my head there's a much happier ending where Roc eats everyone else.
Donteros Terrowyn, she has to kill them. Her Shade demands more bloodshed. If she doesn’t more things will die by Tyrann’s hand instead. If anything, she saves half of life by doing this.
@phillipkim1 nothing. the same with animals the wolves eat. They have done absolutely nothing to the wolves and just minding their own business, but, well, wolves got to eat.
They eat animals becuase thats their only food to live. They cannot eat plant. The human slaughter because they THINK they are dangerous, like a racist

Thank you, i actually didn't realise that's what actually happened from the friend scene.... Now I feel worse
Out of all the Shade bosses, this is the most reactionary. Roc was willing to allow humanity one last chance after everything that happened but the people of the city unknowingly wasted that chance. I feel like the one part that hit me the most hard was when Roc tried to take out the spear from the poor wolf, only to see it lose its life.
Be strong young one!
Old Man: Thank you...for being my friend...
That line was delivered so perfectly.
I just noticed something, aww shit. At 17:38 the adviser says "A foolish king attracts a foolish people," this is because of the guys willing to go to war with the wolves. I don't care what anybody here says. This part of the game goes to show you that war is very ugly and neither side is spared! ):
This part of the game ws absolutly incredible. What a fanatsic, brilliantly done 25-30 mintes part of any game ever.
It's beautiful. And that old man's voice acting is beautiful too. I hope the remaster keeps it exactly as it is.

The 1st time around, it was triumphant when Roc was killed, but now...
It's just a tragic cycle of murder...
"We can ill afford another tragedy"?
Weiss this game still has like a dozen more tragedies to go before its done >_>
I literally cried while watching this. It's just so sad :(
This game always make me cry.

What I love so much is how the keys match with the Boss' back stories.
The death of the wolf is just the same to those in japan

wow so its actually the kings army's fault wow i would have never thought of that thats just sad

I just wanna know how the hell a wolf became a shade. Wasn’t the whole Gestalt/Replicant thing supposed to be just for humans?
The grandpa did it for his wolf .

I can only ask the developers one thing: HOW MUCH HELL DO THE CHARACTERS HAVE TO GO THROUGH??? The Shades and Bosses DESERVE happy endings!!
