My Dorsett apples ripened in late July and turned yellow. Im in Inland Empire. Great tasting. Planted it last summer.

I believe Gary was referencing the Warren pear tree as one of European pears that has a lower chill requirements and do (relatively) well in SoCal. It's from Mississippi and was "discovered" by chance in the late 70's.

I’m surprised that calcium deficiency would ever be a thing, but I guess that’s because I’m not in California. All of the rocks and mountains around here are limestone, so the soil is basically made of calcium.
But I’m sure it could be in the wrong state for the tree to absorb it too. I’ve always thought the solution is just to get more worms in the soil.

Nice video if you wanted to grow Apples. I was hoping for more info on growing both kinds of pears.

Every video I watch makes me want to buy Gary's Top Pot. How much is shipping?

See if your local nursery will order it for you. I don't think Gary ships it himself.

Or make it yourself if you can't get it locally.

You can use sand as an alternative, as Gary has said in many of his lectures.
