- The world's most boring priest comes to stay and Father Ted prays for deliverance from Father Stone, only to find his prayer answered in a shocking way.
Beloved sitcom focused on three priests living on Craggy Island, a remote island off the west coast of Ireland. Father Ted Crilly is sent to the island as punishment for using charitable funds for a holiday in Las Vegas, but his true punishment comes in the form of Father Dougal Maguire and Jack Hackett, one a fresh-faced naive young priest, and the other a foul-mouthed, rage-filled alcoholic. Mrs Doyle is their nosy housekeeper, who makes plentiful pots of tea and never takes `no' for an answer. Despite their isolation, the priests get into their fair share of mildly sinful, entirely madcap adventures.

it's far too early in the series to really appreciate it, but Stone being the only thing to deter Mrs. Doyle from serving tea is highly telling.

This is so much better than most of the sitcoms I watched in the 90s. I tried watching Friends again after a decade plus and just couldn’t do it anymore. This is more my speed
then try Black Books as well - same producer/creator.
Try the Bottom live shows. Just watched The Mighty Boosh - give that a go too.

When I watched a few Friends episodes recently, I couldn't believe how out-of-touch the characters were. Poor kids, having those "shitty" New York apartments. So "oppressed" and whiny. lol It's kind of hilarious, but in a bad way.
I thought the same thing about friends, I'm watching it right now, but push through the early season and it's funny again.
This is a very sweet episode. Father Stone isn't really a bad guy. Probably just a bit simple and the reveal that he thinks of Ted and his visits as the best thing in his life says a lot, especially when you meet the abusive father.
he is also a real mammys boy too. mammy thinks the world of him more than the father. and maybe i could be wrong, but the nana might have dementia or another form of illness. she doesnt seem like she cares much for anyone. its not mentioned in the show but that is the irish mentality

I rewatch this show in full once a year for the past 4 years. I love the sense of comfortable familiarity it gives.

Imagine Dougal and The Cat as their characters, but the rest of the show is still Death in Paradise. Chaos, bedlam, fish fingers.

Thanks for uploading these. I'm stuck in Italy at the moment, for the last 4 months, and being an Irish lad, these episodes warm up the pot of stew at the bottom of me heart and bring back fond memories of home. Missing the old place
Fair enough. I'm from Cork myself. I often watch Father Ted when I leave. That or the show where the fellow inspects houses. Something designs.

It's interesting to note that part of the reason that Father Ted had a change of heart towards Father Stone is because his dad came in and verbally trashed him. Father Ted related to that which is foreshadowed in the waiting room where he described himself as the idiot son who became a priest and his parent's preference for his brother who became a doctor.
I thought about it and it's possible Father Stone could be suffering from clinical depression.

I've seen all these episodes so many times yet they always make me laugh. Definitely my favorite show of all time. Rest in peace all the brilliant actors who've passed on since :)

A typical rapid-talking Irish would die of psychical exhaustion while in his presence but a typical Chinese would take Fr. Stone as a blessing and love his relaxed soul

2:13 - 3:17 Best part... That's me when you're trying to have a conversation with me. That scene could have been going on for several more minutes with Ted trying to start up a conversation and Paul giving terse answers not leading anywhere. It would have been hilarious, and relatable.

I couldn't afford to get the dvds and absolutely love british tv. this show Is very addicting. first half of first episode and I'm like "what?", but after the fair, I was hooked. I expected Dougal to be his usual self, totally oblivious and unaware, and so i wouldn't have expected him to be bothered at all with the silence, and not even realise the akwardness

This must be my 6th or 7th time going thru this series. I consider EVERY episode a classic. There’s not a stinker in there. I think these will be regarded as brilliant sit coms like ,,forever!!! Of course I loved Fawlty Towers and Blackadder, but these are just so re-watchable.. the laughs are there always . Like the first time watching.. I’ve turned a dozen people onto “Ted”,, And almost all of them agree. Worth the watch is an understatement. It’s a must

Dang, I was Father Stone to a T till I was about 20. Can't speak for him, but all I wanted was to hang out in pleasant company and not be a bother while everyone else went about their business.
Ted and Dougal feeling forced to entertain him as a guest would be awful. Treat him more like Father Jack and it'd probably be fine.
We always watch these on video at Xmas or NYE - always great for a laugh. Wish they would bring it back with new actors

In retrospect it doesn't seem so bad to me. If all this is what it takes for him to feel such appreciation and gratitude, I honestly don't mind having him sitting like a lump. Such people don't naturally deter my friends from talking.
