  • I really got the reeeal southern tour this trip. Loved eating at Waffle House like I did when I was a kid. We would take I10 from Texas to Orlando and I’m pretty sure that’s all we ate. I loved the trees and whatever that mossy stuff is that hangs off of them. I just don’t like the parking situation!!

I went to a Cracker Barrel the other night for a bite to eat in Tucson off the 10 frwy.
There are too many homeless people living in vehicles, that doesn’t bother me, but the issue is sanitation & repetition. They have trash around their vehicles or vans, have trash bags as windows, put luggage on top of the vehicle, etc.
so I drove by again the next night after work and most of those homeless vehicles were still in the same place.
It ruins it for the Nomads driving through the area for a safe place to sleep.
Walmart did it too, but it was taken advantage of and Walmart put a stop to it, even for truck drivers. Believe me, I’ve seen what the homeless did to Walmarts.
    Really sad.
I hope they solve the homeless situation. It’s changing to our nice cities in a negative way. There is so much land that just sits. Each state should use unused land for the homeless with resources to rebuild their lives.

Hi from Florida. Keep heading south there is a lot to see if you take 95 South. St. Augustine at exit 318 go east it has a historic area off san marco. Definitely go to St. George street. Then for seeing some nature go to Ravine Gardens State Park in Palatka take exit 311 turn right toward hastings and palatka then take 17 North. It's really pretty at the state park. Also you can go to Ocala and see the national forest as well its a bit closer to Orlanda. The forest is wide open and also offers camping, hiking, and swimming areas. You can visit some of the many springs the forest has to offer. Definitely stick around Florida for a bit.

As a former van lifer. It's illegal to sleep in your car in Florida. I think it's a terrible place to van life. Plus that "WARM" turns into hot and humid as heck really quickly in a van if you go too further down south. Also northern Florida definitely gets cold. It's not until you reach Palm Beach County that you get year around warmth/ hot with occasional cold fronts in the winter months.

SAD, but true it's not just the winter season on the east coast!
Merry Christmas Young Lady, here's wishing you a very Healthy Happy New Year!
    Miss Alyssa,
Last year a few old bikers like myself took a foliage tour up into Maine. We found a few fellow bikers that had farms and no problems with us setting up tents. We stayed at two campgrounds that were already closed for the season but the officers we saw drive by never stopped. Maybe when you see a bunch of grey beards on old kicker bikes you think the worst and don't risk it or they just knew we'd be gone without leaving trash and a mess. The later is the real problem with "free" camping in America, too few respect the land and anyone else that will use it after they leave so we all lose. Like the new BS laws on videotaping inside of national parks requiring a costly permit, this government has forgotten it's the Land of the Free.
I do hope you come back to the east coast to see all the wonders they have and the old architecture. With so many good people all across this country and so many people living as you are, not everyone will find the open arms and welcome attitude.
Have a very Merry Christmas tonight and tomorrow Sweety, we will all look forward to watching you have a Healthy and Happy New Year with your new home. Blessings!
With Love and Respect, You are in my prayers
    Hoka Hey

If you want to stay in FL just bounce around to the FL state parks, you can do two weeks at one then two weeks at another and so on…it’s a campground and it’s FL but you won’t be frozen. There are also some WMAs (water management areas) that offer free camping but there is a short window for you to stay.

As she sat so close to the water, even before mentioning gator, I was scootin' back on in my chair.. these days, near every body of water has gator in it, thanks to mankind setting them loose in places, they weren't before. (Lake Los Angeles is just one that comes to mind, in Los Angeles, California. No one ever was able to catch that beast! and then I digress)
I'm more cautious of bodies of water, any more, especially those you cannot see through..

Even tho Loves has 1 hour parking signs.. if you ask the staff they will tell you it’s no problem to stay overnight in back row spots.. they just don’t want non-customers loitering and staying for extended times. At least that has been my experience when car camping on east coast road trips. Just always go in and ask if it’s ok.. they sometimes will ask what car I’m in to make their manager aware but they’ve always been welcoming.

I think I feel what you're trying to get at with the unfortunate knock. It's both the idea that anyone would restrict your freedom to explore open land. And it's the trauma of someone exerting their "authority" over your freedom. You felt the control and the restriction on your freedom. It's a sad reality, yes, that there would be any restriction on access to open land. But if there were no restrictions enforced, the land would be taken over by homelessness, mentally unstable and drug users and seekers. And that's what they're trying to prevent. I feel your pain sweetheart. I've had the knock myself, more than once, and this is what I was talking about character-building opportunities. You handled yourself very graciously and responsibly. Win win for you. ❤❤❤

It sucks because florida is cool and definitely is much warmer in the winter for us nomads. It's doable once you find enough places but it sucks that it's so hard to find quality spots in Florida. I have resorted to just staying in texas for the winter, much easier. Stay safe out there!

I wouldnt have thought Florida would be cold in the winter. At least not that cold. I just got back to Az before Christmas after 10 weeks in TN camping. I had a lot of cold mornings, in the high teens, 20's and 30's. But by 10 am most days it was in the 60's. Do you have a little buddy heater? I hooked mine to a 20 gallon propane tank and that's what kept me warm. I would use about a gallon a night on low. Around $1 a day. Just a thought. Have fun and happy new year. Hoping 2024 has less migraines for you.

You was better off going to saint pete beach, clearwater beach, and or honeymoon island cuz you can absolutely camp there because i use to fish and canoe there all night long without a pice disturbance. Im sorry you have to go through that but its not that bad here in florida it just depends on where you go cuz in some cities polices can be very nasty for no reason

10:20 the sad part is I see both sides of it, with people that don't know how to clean up after themselves but isn't that what we paid government to do to actually do something rather than just go around and harass and police those that are not bothering anybody? but in the end law enforcement and government did not pay for this land, Americans did, with Blood, Sweat, and Tears, we shouldn't have to pay for it again, and we certainly should not be told we can only enjoy it when they say we can.

There is wide open areas to park at night in the Ocala National Forest in the mid state and the Apalachicola National Forest up in the panhandle part of the state. Also there's numerous State Forest areas around everywhere.

Van life on the east coast is a challenge. The no parking overnight signs are up in a lot of scenic places. Cities areas where residential building are better with plenty of street parking. Once you are inside (stealth) very little people know you are inside or care that you are inside. I’m in New York. Safe travels my new friend.

I thought about driving somewhere south but it's honestly not much warmer at night compared to where I'm at now so I figured I'll stay put for winter and start driving when it's better weather all over

Go down around Ocala natural Forest . They have BMO land . There is BMO land in Florida
Most small towns are good for a one night . Walmart a one nighter .Ask a church where you could sleep a night . Most would probably say yes . There is always the beach . They are not so busy this time of year .I've seen flipping teens in Florida . This is an elnio year wat damp and cold . Go farther south .

I’m from the east coast and there are some nice places to go camping like PA and West Virginia up on the mountains but unfortunately most places you have to pay to stay each night if you get lucky to get a spot or call to make reservations which sucks. Definitely should come to the east coast when the weather gets nice cause it gets very cold this time of year. Safe travels and stay safe out there.

I haven't had a chance to comb thru your vids yet but do you have a video of your day to day activities. such as wake up, where you shower or wash up, what you do for work/type of income opportunities you have, hobbies you do after work, and finally your nightly routine. I plan to go full time van life in about three years and I am curious as to how you pay for this type of fulltime lifestyle and what a day in the life of a van lifer/nomad would look like. TIA for any info and advice. safe and happy travels to you. =D
...a few moments later... as i posted this comment, a video of yours popped up on my feed of how you make money. lol.

You want to camp on a beach? Port Bolivar aka Crystal Beach off the ferry in Galveston TX. You just need a $10 permit that you can score at Katy's or one of the gas stations. It's usually nice and not crowded.

I'm here in Central Florida and no to street parking or overnight beach parking in costal towns. Most people are parking in their driveway and the street is for a visting guest. You don't see cars bumper to bumper parking on residential/suburbs streets. For overnight parking Cracker Barrel, mid size hotel parking lot, some apartment complexes, car repair places, Waffle House. I was here over three months before I got a knock. The police were nice but explained the area has a lot of break in which is why they check out everybody. The police here constantly pull people over for everything and anything. I lived in an apartment here for 15 years. The police patrolled our complex daily as part of their beat. The police questioned me one morning as I left my apartment and got into my car at midnight. I explained I lived there and was headed to my night shift job. I had to show my license, registration and insurance. So yes people who are housed get bothered by the police too. People have been living in vehicles in Florida for years. It's not easy because police actually patrol most of not all businesses and areas. They check out suspicious vehicles or abandoned vehicles. They will question you and ask you to leave if there are signs or you are loitering. It's not like the west coast where police do not respond to anything unless it is a gunshot victim or dead body. I traveled the west coast and while it was definitely easier to overnight park there was so much property crime and theft. Plus the amount of non running vehicles and trash strewn everywhere. Florida is a tourist state and has tons of lodging that collect taxes that go to bettering our services. So that is why no camping and no overnight parking allowed.

And the tempts will be higher and the c.b. Restraunts are close to the beach !
