I'm happy they did this. As a guitar player I feel the bass needed to be turned up during the first climax 1:30. and during the outro. I imagine there were good reasons why they didn't, it's just those parts didn't feel as impactful. This was still really cool.
My favorite interpretation was at Rock in Rio in 2011......they played Orion and was insane! The crowd was possessed hahaha.....Since I'm from Brazil, I never expected to see this song alive.

They just aren't quite hitting the bends right here, they movement of the notes isn't like the original, and it def sounds worse. Live Metallica probably they aren't hitting it quite as closely as they did in the studio as it's harder to hear the tiny differences in pitch to make it perfectly harmonise, with all the the noise of a gig. And yeah as mentioned they also can't add the additional guitar layers live.
mind you back then Lars also was a more than decent drummer himself. He got fucked at around 89 when he sniffed all the coke in LA with Slash. He only quit in 2005. So we can say coke ruined the best band ever. But, at least they made 4 full albums that are metal history.

Johnny Wetenkamp Yep, heres an example- many years ago I got to see The Fabulous Thunderbirds in Houston Texas with Jimmy Vaughn of course on Guitar,, Drummer was super solid but played very few fills,,, almost none in fact,, like two Tom notes or a single crash cymbal here and there and I found myself wondering is he going to open up or what-- he didn’t and afterwards I thought quite a bit about that guy and decided I liked the shit out of what he did because as I said he was Rock Solid with a lot of Swagger in his playing-- so sometimes just playing great time can impress more than all the pyrotechnics that drummers, (especially today!!) indulge in.
