"How to remove the broken part" would be helpful. Why is a part that's only two years old and infrequently used breaking so often that there are multiple videos on how to fix it, anyway? They should really look into doing something about that. Thanks for the video, though.

I backed into that flap at the gas station and bashed the piece off. Couldn’t figure out where it came from or how to get it back on! Google - and you - to the rescue. Cheers from Canada.

Luckily my customer recovered the broken spring, while at the gas station. Once i got the car, to figure it all out, i elected to zip tie the spring to the hinge. Seems like its a solid fix, only time will tell.
Older models? Try in about 2-3 years after purchase of a new vehicle. This part has a massive design flaw with how the spring is held on to the clip. Thanks for the info, since warranty does not cover this "mechanical assembly".
I have a 2020 got it used (18k miles) in 2021 and mine broke off today. Hoping superglue will be good enough to fix lol. It’s able to say in place up until I open the gas tank, then it falls and I’ve got to find it a place it back until next time.
I had this same issue but no one to assist in opening the door while I pressed the open button. I though, there must be a manual release in the trunk and low and behold there is. If you pop the trunk there is a small panel cover on above the indent of the left fender. Take off that cover and there is a manual release for the fuel door actuator. I was able to pull the release level and open the fuel door with my other hand.

You have to prop the lever open in the cabin then press the fuel Door on the opposite corners to open it. You will then notice the Spring Clip is missing. Glad to help❤
We ordered the clip and all seemed easy as you said but it will NOT click tight on the one end! Pops off, any ideas???? The piece is identical to the one you show, ordered on line.
3rd party fuel door springs in my experience do not fit as well as OEM parts. Order the fuel door spring from a local Toyota dealer's parts department. More $, but much less frustration at install. The other option is to use sandpaper and sand down the edge of the part that is too long, shave off just enough where the fit is good, but still tight. This is what I had to do to get my Dorman made replacement fuel door spring part to fit the first time. Good luck!
You show how to replace the part but absolutely no information on how to remove the old plastic piece. BTW when I did get it off it flew out of sight. My cap was off for easier access and I was afraid it had gone down the filler. (Didn’t) but put rag in filler if cap is removed.
I used a flat head screwdriver to remove the plastic piece (assuming you mean the black portion the spring sits on). Just slide part of the flathead behind the piece and pry it from the gas door using minimum pressure. Hold the fuel door as you do it so it stays still. And I did not remove my gas cap for the removal - this is an unnecessary step that could probably lead to, as you said, something flying down the tank.😅

I just literally did this today. In the hinge area, I simple used a blade screwdriver tip and hit the plastic "hook" a few times. It will fall out behind the hinge and should come out the bottom. If more plastic material than that exists, a chisel it a file should take enough off. If you have a "moto-tool" you should be able to cut enough of the plastic away.

Just found myself at the Costco gas pump and couldn't get it to open, sigh....
Pull the handle and stick the fob and use your card to open the trap door
Ask someone else to simply push on the fuel lid’s left side while you hold the release handle …

This is for a floor mounted lever, I simply put an eyeglass case under the lever and opened it.
You have to prop the lever open in the cabin then press the fuel Door on the opposite corners to open it. You will then notice the Spring Clip is missing. Glad to help❤
