Hi. Trying to get the Vario set up with this Rx on my Taranis 9 (not Plus). The Vario tone does not come on while the ALT sounds as 0 "million" or something like that. What may I be doing wrong?
Make sure VSpd and Alt appear when you discover sensors, then Vario source = VSpd, then assign a switch for Vario. Should work if you have the correct Sounds folder for your OpenTX version, and also check in the telemetry page under Alt that m or ft is selected for units
@@AndrewNewton Thanks for the response. Re-bound the RX and then the pressed the Discover new sensors button. The Telemetry screen does not acknowledge any input in Line Item 1 Alt and Line Item 2 Vspd. Even the ID states 0 and 0 for each sensor. The same Rx worked well with a QX7. Perhaps upgrading the Tx hardware to the latest version will help? It is the 2016 edition as purchased. Thanks for your time.
Finally! Upgraded the Tx to Open Pilot 2.2.4 and it worked. When binding, this version offers Ch. 1-8 with or without Telemetry. When bound with the Telemetry option, the vario in the Rx was detected by the Tx. Earlier the same Tx, Version 2.1.7, was working well with an old style telemetry receiver and an external vario. The GR8X worked with the same version but without the vario input.

Hi Andrew I installed GRX8 as per your video, but I keep getting “telemetry lost... telemetry recovered” message over and over even when the plane is flying by close. Control of the plane is not affected. Just the message is a bit annoying and I have to turn volume down. Do you have any ideas what could cause this? Tx is a Jumper T12. I deleted telemetry sensors but it made no difference. Thanks again for your great videos.
Dont know Alan. Antenna placement is all I can think of but unlikely
Andrew, I discovered the problem. The receiver was faulty. FrSky have kindly offered to repair it for me for free. I just have to post it back with the case number and the repair request form. Meanwhile I have installed a non faulty GRX8 receiver and the problem is fixed! :-)
what are your thoughts on running the 2x G-rx8 with Powerbox on a big gas plane I wanted to run 2x G-rx6 as slaves with them I wish to have a bulletproof setup on this plane.. Any feedback would be deeply appreciated, I don't care for the altitude stuff just looking for the best signal and having access RX any advice for me ?
Better range on non telemetry receivers like the L9R, but I dont know anything about Gas model requirements or redundancy setups.
Andrew do you know if this variometer is a total energy variometer or a normal vertical speed indicator? I guess does it beep at you when you raise the nose and bleed airspeed during a climb or does it only beep when you have a true thermal?
Just vertical speed sensor
How do you mount the cam on the glider ? doube sided tape ? velcro ? Tape also on the top for safety ? if it´s a mobius cam, doesn´t the tape on the top affect the heat sink on top of the case of the mobius ?
Just tape over the top for a quick flight, doesn't seem to hinder the heatsink
@@AndrewNewton thank you. It worked. th-cam.com/video/gSYtDgfaVtM/w-d-xo.html
Hello i have a TX Radiomaster TX16S.G-RX8 I can only connect to the FrSkyx2 D16 status module. But the value of VSpd and ALT remain at zero.Does not move other values running.Firmware is G-RX8_ACCST_2.1.2_FCC.frk.I really don't know what to do anymore. I followed your instructions no change. Thanks for any response
Have you done 'Discover sensors' from the Telemetry page on Tx16s?
Yes Bruce has a point. Delete All Sensors then Discover Sensors again.
Hi Andrew, can this RX be used with the RadioMaster TX16S internal multiprotocol module?
Yes, as long as it is not flashed with ACCESS firmware.
@@AndrewNewton Many thanks!
have you tried the G-RX6 or the RX4R/RX6R yet with external SmartPort sensors? I believe they all need an extra wire soldering on, which is kind of a pain. :(
Just the G-RX6 needs soldering. Review coming soon
thanks @@AndrewNewton, will keep an eye out for that. :)
Hi! Andrew.
I hope you are OK!
Two maths ago I bought the G-RX8 and when biding, I can't get the green and red flashing leads, the red stays fixed.
I have flashed the receiver's software into the X9D Plus, the fcc version!
Have you sugestion to help me?

Most likely to be mis matched firmware. Receiver and radio can use ACCESS or ACCST D16, FCC or EU (LBT) Or you may need to push harder on the receiver bind button. I have one that need very hard push to get into bind mode.
@@AndrewNewton Thanks for the reply! My radio is ACCST and can do D16. I am going to try harder push on the switch. Thanks once more!
There is also D16 V1 and D16 V2. The radio may be on V1 and the receiver on V2
@@AndrewNewton Ho Yes! You might be wright, becouse my radio was bought around 2019.
If this is the case, do I have option to use V1 and V2 on the raido?
I also have the external module not instaled. Will it be an option?

Vítor Lalanda

The GR8X worked with the same version but without the vario input.
got a bunch of these receivers and found them okay , did you ever find what the issue was with your low RSSI..
Radio getting old probably. I might have swapped antenna to fix it
What a fascinating video (series). Were you flying this FPV via goggles? I'm very surprised I can't seem to find much at all about FPV Sailplanes. It seems that would capture soaring perfectly!
Not with this one but I have tried FPV thermalling and slope soaring. Search my channel and you will find them
@@AndrewNewton I found them and also found them fascinating. Also lead to other leads.
I'm fascinated by the full house rc sailplanes, e.g. OSD for vario etc, GPS for mission planning, return to home etc., AurdoPilot??? etc. I'd like to see a block diagram of the components and their function. Thank, still mucking about with drones (on a sim, lol).
Do you have any information on adding an XM+ receiver for additional diversity?
No sorry
Hello friend, what is the correct configuration to know the full battery voltage since when I try to configure it, it does not give me in my radiomaster TX16S I put a 4s full charge and then
And then another one downloaded and it continues to show the same voltage even if I put one of 3s some help please thank you I update it and the receiver is still in the same
Need a voltage sensor or flight control board
@@AndrewNewtonThat is to say, that telemetry that the director of the voltage offers me does not work that sad since in the description of the product it says that it has the telemetry of the battery voltage
There is an Ain2 pin for analog voltage telemetry but I have never tried that.
@@AndrewNewton is what I'm trying friend but until now I can't configure correctly, it seems that it doesn't work for me even though I program it but I don't know if I do it the right way
Does it work only with frysky transmitters or will it work with other receivers , transmitters ?
Only FrSKY
I currently have the frsky l9r in my bix, if I use the gx8r and connect it to my current l9r would that work and would I still get telemetry as the l9r is non telemetry
You will only get telemetry from the G-RX8 if you bind to it, then you can't bind to the L9R
Andrew Newton it says in the manual they it can be linked to another receiver as backup just wondered if I could leave the one I have and add gx8r
@@dragon121978 It cant work, simply because the L9R has no downlink telemetry, besides, the telemetry from the GX8R is only short range, like all downlink telemetry...short range.....The L9R is a long range reciever, capable of over 20kms in the right conditions...You can only bind to ONE reciever as each uses different protocol.
I am your fan bro
.can you make the full video of rctimer atlas flight controller setup , upgrade , calibration video for us bro.. Because there no video about atlas only a naza
I dont know that FC, maybe in the future.
Can no longer get this receiver
Why is a receiver with pins for five channels, sold as a 6 channel receiver?
If you mean the G-RX6 it has 6 pin sets, one set is on the back
Went to setup my new GRX8 today, discovered that all the data connections were not soldered. Now I have to wait another month.. grrrr
That's odd, do you mean the servo pins or the SBUS / SPort socket, or maybe the cable?
@@AndrewNewton servo.pins at each end.. have a pic if you like. Very disappointed with Banggood. 2 emails, no replys..
How did you set up the volume control??
Volume is one of the selections in Special Functions. Choose ON, Volume, Right slider
@@AndrewNewton I did that, before I asked but forgot the check box, went back and checked the box, and Bingo! it works now.
i should try flashing my G-RX8 it also failsafes at 200 meters
Good idea
G-RX8 can also read speed?
Only vertical speed from air pressure
in telemetry it doesnt find vertical speed??
Did you bind it properly? Matching firmware on receiver and radio?
@@AndrewNewton i didnt know if you press the button on the reciver for few seconds you turn of the vario so i accidantly do it and didnt know about it.... tnx so much for your reply
5:17 servo polarity incorrect
Well spotted.
You must see the size of G-RX6
Yes, perfect for tight spots
jesus im still on 27MHZ
Bet it works perfectly too.
would be interested in why the low RSSI on your standard Taranis plus...did you resolve that?
Well used and abused X9D+ with repaired antenna. I have retired it now.
