- A wildfire near our home is currently raging out of control. Fire ash is falling from the sky, and we've even found hot embers on our property. While we're not currently in the evacuation zone, we’re preparing in case an emergency strikes unexpectedly. Disasters can strike without warning, so it’s essential to have an emergency preparedness plan and stay proactive in adapting it when potential threats appear.

Fill up your gutters with water, that's what we do here in Australia. Stop embers on the roof. Air conditioners off. In future if you are in a fire prone area, goats are good in fire prone areas as they eat roots and keep fire material down.

The grass won't burn but those dried flower plants on your deck right by the house will! Get rid of those before an ember drops in them. Let the firefighters fight the fire & you & your family evacuate if needed. Better to go early so the roads aren't clogged, not sure if that applies in your area, but be safe!
Noticed the dried flowers on the deck. So much for listening to your instincts and not trusting the government. Any fire prevention government official would recommend not keeping vegetation like that on a deck. Maybe being tethered to her phone is interfering with her listening to her instincts. lol!

Clean gutters, plug with tennis balls and fill them with water. Take gas/ propane canisters away from house. Fill everything you can with water. Close all windows and plan your evacuation route. Better to leave early but leave place wet if you can. All the best ❤

Yep. Pay attention to the birds and all the other animals. They know when to leave and most of them probably already have. I pray that fire gets under control before it comes any closer to you. You guys are as prepared as you can get. But there is always a chance you will have to get evacuated because that is really close. I hope that doesn't happen, but that fire is way too close to think otherwise. Your home and property are so beautiful, I hope the fire doesn't get too close to you guys. Keep us posted. Yes. Same thing happening in NC area. They want people out of "desirable, " resource rich areas.
Wildfire is very urgent because you have to drive on roads that the rest of the people are driving on at the same time and the last thing you want is to get caught in a traffic jam!
If you remember all of the suspicious fires that have roared throughout other parts of the country and abroad take heed and get the heck out of dodge because many of the other fires weren't expected to spread as quickly as they did like an accelerant was carrying it and people became trapped and burned to death. Don't worry about your house and other replaceable things grab your essentials, important paperwork, cash, pets, each other and go because the Government is not available for rescue either.
The government will refuse rescue just like they're doing now in NC. 😢

Wet your roof, your yard, water down everything. We had a wildfire started by lightening on our 300 acres. It came within yards of the house. We had watered down the roof, house, yard...you name it. We then took hoses out to the edge of the yard and watered down all the yard we could. The fire actually turned and went in a different direction away from our house. It worked for us. I pray it works for you! GOD BLESS YOU! 🙏
Have you sprinklers on your roof. If not install them when this is over. If the animals are reacting you should be VERY Careful. Pack some emergency stuff in the car/cars & keep the radio on & someone on watch.

Run the sprinklers. I think it was said, water the roof and the plants /shrubs near your home. Cut down any limbs that are near home and not 6' of the ground. The park fire recently almost burned down my family's cabin community. Firefighters dug a trench (like 1' wide end 6" deep) all around our cabin so they could set up sprinkler system to protect the cabin. They saved us. Praying for you now.
Wet down your roof Tawra! When our barn was on fire large burning embers were blowing towards our house and landing on the roof. My husband watered down our roof and it saved our house!

You give good advice. Another thing to consider is your escape route. My father in law had to flee a wildfire in a moments notice. He lived in Tennessee and on the way down the mountains the forest on both sides of the road was in flames. It was quite frightening. His beautiful mountain home was burned to the ground. All he had left was the clothes on his back and his wallet.
I was on that mountain road last week. My son owns a chalet on the side of the mountain that didn’t burn. We saw a lot of new construction on the side that did burn.

TAWRA, GET THOSE SPRINKLERS AND HOSES GOING, ESPECIALLY ON YOUR HOUSE, NOW! The wetter you can get things now, the better chance you have of it surviving. Do you hae nderground sprinklers? If so get them on, or get as many hoses and sprinklers going on the lawn near your house going.
Wild rags, soaked , over your face helps with breathing.
Get your cats contained inside in a closed room so they are easier to catch and in the carrier when you have to go.

Growing up, my step dad was a conservation officer/fire fighter for the state of Michigan. He traveled to many big fires across the country when things got really bad. I dont understand why they don't clear the underbrush near town. You may need to do a deep dive in how to cut back the trees and such you can on your yard. Wild fires are so scary? Be safe!

Every summer when i was a kid we would go to Tie Flume, Dead Swede,and(The Old Blue Spruce Campground).

This happened near us in Colorado. I started gathering valuables to leave. We had the ash fallout also. We were lucky that the wind shifted. It was extremely windy. It’s not a good feeling.

If you have to evacuate have your list and items ready. People, pets, papers, prescriptions, personal items like glasses, hearing aids, dental appliances… I went through this in 2017. Also, make sure your neighbors are aware of what’s going on.

I would pack up important belongings because if ashes are at your house then wind is definitely blowing towards you so just a matter of time not IF but when will it reach you, pack and leave now, better be safe than sorry.....Waiting is not a very good option, it is blowing YOUR DIRECTION!

Check the spot where the wall meets the roof, do you have vents that are covered in chicken wire, if so you need to cover them up for the fire, the house will suck them in and your house will burn from the inside out. Love from Ca.

58:54. You can see the smoke coming out of the roof, no fire damage from the ground, almost everyone of these houses burned from the inside out, aka the roof. Almost all Ca. houses are built the same way, stucco walls, tile roof, wood overhangs with little weep holes about 2" x 8", the insulation catches on fire, the roof starts to smoke and it is all over.
They had houses in Malibu that were no where near the fire but the ash was falling all around the houses and they were burning from the inside out.

Tawra if you have embers landing on or around your property you need to get your sprinklers going on your roof and yard and keep them going. Those embers are how the main fire spreads. The winds can blow hot embers 20+ miles away from the main fire. I live in Oregon and the last few days we have been inundated with smoke and ash again. We have three fires burning around us. I'm sure looking forward to winter for once. Praying for safety for you and for the fire to be contained. 🙏

We were several miles away from the fires here and there were little fires in people’s yards started by embers. You have to be vigilant.
