I'm a 72 yo woman who lives alone, so I save my shower water in the tub and have a dollar store bucket to dip it out to flush. I also use it to wash clothes 1st then I only run the washer on rinse and spin. It saves me a few dollars a month. I also hang dry my laundry and only fluff the ones that need it.
I store water in jugs and use it for drinking and cooking then refill. This rotates it, keeps it fresh without all that waste.

Don't forget the containers which won't keep water potable; its good for toilets. Identify absolutely important laundry items amd run loads (ie undies and socks; if the water goes down remember, mismatched socks get popular every so often amd there is a matching pair some where). Wash ALL the dishes and consider cooking things that will hold (assuming you have refrigeration) like rice, maybe a casserole, etc.. (keep those pots washed) and definitely anything in the fridge amd maybe some flour based items in case the grocery stores get a run. - You did a 2 month tour of limited supplies.

Maybe you could have put all that water into one of the big rain barrels…….I was kinda cringing. No one can think of everything, especially when stressed. I always put mine on outside plants……I wonder if the wildlife needs water? Hard times for sure…..last days!

In order to do that they would have had to make a ton of trips up and down either steep stairs or a steep hill - when you are that exhausted and have so much to do that isn't too practical. No there is a creek right behind their house for the animals to use.

I have been telling people this for years. If you don’t do any preps, please store water I live in the desert about 2 miles from the fault line. Everyone just looks at me and says ,oh yeah that’s a good idea. I have stored water and I always think it’s not enough.😢

Emergency drinking water stored in a Tide container? I don't understand pouring out water in an emergency. Fill a bathtub or pour water around the base of the house.

Keeping you all in my thoughts, so many are going through so much right now. It's why we prep, it's why we share with each other and lean on each other. (Sorry in tears over here, largely since Helene hit and I am in Michigan no where near dealing with any of nature).

Our area of East Tn was devasted by Helene. With the flood waters everything became contaminated. Water plant pumps were under the nasty flood water . Just got water back into certain areas of Newport Tn , but still under boil orders. Be safe !! Water is a precious item during disasters.❤
