Great video, tnx! I appreciate that you share the difficulties. It reduces the risk that we "wannabehikers" underestimate the challenges, and rememember to always put security first.
Really enjoyed your video, sorry you didn’t get to finish! But I think you’ve seen the most beautiful sections. We just completed the trail and it’s great to see everything again on the screen.
Brilliant video! Hard walk but beautiful adventure, well done! Yeah.. shoes, also did a few trips with my feet being wet all the time. Good humor by the way, great original start in the telephone box! Thanks for making this.
Great video mate. Have subscribed in support! We know how hard it can be to produce good content and get your YT off the ground. Going through it ourselves. Keep up the good work!
April looks like challenging month for Isle of Skye. I finished Skye Trail a month ago but... the weather did not match to Scottish standards. Nearly an entire trail sunshine and it was difficult in the exposed mountains without a little bit of shade and a breeze. But it would be much difficult to walk in rain and wind. So I could not complain.
Good to see you back in Scotland after meeting you on the WHW last year. No trails for me this year... I am trying to finish the Wainwright's in Cumbria. 22 to go.
Margaret, so happy to read from you. I half expected to bump into you at some peak on Skye.. Are you doing ALL the Wainwright's?? You are impressive as always!!
I did several of the highest when climbing all the English, Welsh & Irish hills that would have been Munros in Scotland. Many years later , doing the Marilyns we went back and climbed all those in the Lake District. That left quite a lot and we still had over 40 to do when R died. Just trying to finish in his memory.
OK, this is the best Skye trail video I’ve seen so far. I keep thinking I’ve seen the best and then I see an even better one.:-) I am leaving from the US in four days to come hike that trail! Been planning this trip for three years. Will be staying at a hostel in Portree, and hoping to take that bus to the start and hike back, just as far as poetry, with my daughter in tow. I’m wondering, since we will have a rental car so we can explore more of Scotland after our hike, where we will be able to park while we hike. And does the bus to the start take cash? Credit card? I plan to call the Hostel and ask once we’re there, but just in case you, or anyone else here knows. :-) Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words!! Much appreciated. There is a bus going around the northern part of Skye several times a day (57a and 57c). You can check Google maps or just Google it. For your car, you can park in Portree. Maybe you find something a bit remote where you avoid the fees. That might be the best central spot as you can always return by bus if you feel like you walked enough. Bus drivers accept card and cash. Let me know if you have any more questions. Enjoy your trip!
Well done Martin, good trail vid 👍 I recognise that red phone box! I did the Skye Trail and made my own vids. It was awesome, inspiring and magical! Subbed 👍Justin
Thank you so much Justin! I’m sure that I got creative inspiration from your video intro when I was planning my trip. You actually helped me a lot when I was doing my trail research. Subbed you as well of course 😃 see you on the trail!!
Good video. You are a great host. Shame about the bad stomach. Your next section south of Elgol then around to Broadford is where I did my university dissertation! You'll have to go back!
Thanks for sharing. I see there's an alternative for the bad step because pieces like these are definitely not for me. However I wonder if there is any other section in the skye trail that when you fall you fall in damniation? I would like to hike it but don't like really dangerous parts.
Thank you! I carried 3 litres of water. There are some streams on the way. I refilled on the second day at the Flodigary Hostel and at the waterfall section on the ridge. Next reliable water source would the toilets at the old man of storr. Behind that, there was a lake but no more fresh water streams.
Nice video. Shame you picked up a stomach infection. Looks like you had the Befree katadyn, so strange. Regarding your footwear looks like you were wearing salomons - they are tight round the toes. Try Topo athletics or Altra Lone Peaks - special wide toe box and drain away water quickly and dry quickly as well. I wore Topo Athletics Terraventures on the Cape Wrath Trail and had wet feet for the entire 2 week, but never one blister.
Hey mate, great video! I am going to hike this trail in the beginning of april this year. But they recommend me to walk it from south to north, due to the strong wind (from south to north you have the wind in your back). But, practical, i prefer to do it from north to south. What do you suggest? Thanks in advance!
Thanks mate, much appreciated. Honestly, I did not even consider the wind directions back then. I prefered north to south as in my view the north with the ridge and the outlook bothy is more spectacular and I wanted to have that "bagged" before anything else happened on the trail. But I'd say there was an equal amount of people doing it the other way around and they seemed just to enjoy the trail as much as I did. Best of luck when you do your hike!

We climbed Sgurr na Stri via boat from the sea so as not to have to tackle the bad step in our 70s.
Well done Martin, lovely video 👍
Stripey, what an honor! Thank you very much! I love your videos btw.
@@mailmartinwagner hahahah thanks a lot. Hope I manage the Skye Trail at some point as well, you picked a good time for it 👍
Yeah, seems like midges hate the bog just as much as I do 😁 hope to watch you do the Skye trail soon!!
@@mailmartinwagner cheers, hopefully it works out at some point, just to many routes on the wish list 😂

Four seasons on one hike. Amazing. 👍
Thank you! The snow certainly added to the adventure.
Very nice 👍🏼 how much water did you have to carry from the start ? Easy to find water source along the trail especially till Portree cheers
