Dear Ash never a truer word spoken , if only you could get 25% of the male population to try dressing better the other 75% would willing follow once they’ve seen the benefits of dressing well . I my self am 69 year old senior citizen and get complimented daly often by much younger men on my appearance also when I enter an establishment i am addressed as sir it all does wonders for my confidence and general state of mind . I just wish some of the younger men would try it and find the confidence it inspires as well as people take you much more seriously when dress intentionally well . Best wishes Steve .

Indeed Sir.I turned 70 this year and when I reached retirement four years ago I cleared my wardrobe of all unnecessary clothing such as old shoes, ties, jeans, outdated shirts and raggedy jumpers. Keeping the better quality garments I set about augmenting my wardrobe with a few top quality items that will always compliment my style. It's amazing how many young men and indeed women have complimented me, some I'd never met before.
I feel younger men are often afraid to break away from the herd mentality of 'Street' garb. What a pity.

I'm 42 and last year I started to dress better. Instead of jeans I wear chinos. Shirt not tshirt and so on. I then found this channel and learned a lot about the details. Everything Ash said in these two videos have come true for me in only a short period of time. Enjoy ye're retirement gentlemen.

Another great video Ash. Spot on with suggesting that dressing well, building confidence and self esteem go hand in hand. I even dress up a little bit now when I go to the supermarket. 😅

Quality over quantity is always a good idea. Great advice Ash.

As part of my style upgrade journey that I’ve been on for the past year or two, I recently bought my first tweed jacket. I got it used, through eBay, and it looks great. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately now that the weather is getting cooler, just wearing it out and about when I do my errands in town. I really like it; it looks great. Many of the other items I’ve bought, like blazer or suit, are more for special dress-up occasions, but I feel like I can wear this everyday.

Pair the tweed with a good pair of corduroy trousers or chino and you may never wear blue jeans again.

Way ahead of you there. I haven’t worn jeans in probably a year and a half. Chinos are my daily trouser now.

My inspiration is the recent Sherlock Holmes films. I would love to have Jude Law as John Wastson's tweed three peice suit. I like 1890s-1920s fashions.

Clothes can make a definite difference but there's no point having a hand cut Savile Row suit if you can't meet someone's eye. Confidence comes from within and is then reflected in how we choose to present ourselves other than the briefest of cursory meetings. Clothing can be a good veneer but it's one's social ability that counts.

I could not agree more Ash. I find it becoming very difficult to find quality men's clothing in shops anymore. Finding a tailor unless you live in a large city is almost impossible. There are many shops catering to women but few for men. The last thing I want to do is try and order a suit on-line and then find a tailor for proper fitting.

So true in your analysis Ash. Dapper as always. Seems a bit cool there. Would a Homburg or Bowler hat finish your overall look? I bet you would look smashing for sure.

Where I live everyone looks like hobos and people that slept in their clothes, it is called casual but I've always thought casual is too good for slobs.

A very interesting and informative subject indeed. I've started dressing at bit better at my work recently and I certainly agree that dressing well does improve ones self esteem and confidence. I've also noticed that others in the office are stepping up with their attire a bit as well. Which leads me to this question: What are your thoughts on dressing better than your immediate supervisor/boss? Are there some sort of work-place "dress rules" that I should be aware of? As far as I'm concerned, I'm improving my dress standards for myself, and others can do what they wish as well. Any thoughts? Steven.

I can actually mention a story that demonstrates the point in reverse I think. I was doing some DIY on the house, thus I was dressed in disposable clothing. A 20 years old Addidas top, dodgy paint covered jeans. Etc. I ran out of equipment and decided to get some from the local Poundland I didn't need much. Because it was only a journey to poundland and being distracted I went as I was. I was self conscious of the security guard (a rather tall muscular fellow) following me round that Poundland and keeping his eye on me my entire trip. Generally when I dress well, or moderately I have no such attention brought down on me!

@@dandiehm8414 As Ash has explained in many other sessions, don't be afraid to look at the used market for terrific bargains. I have just looked, there is currently a selection of Turnbull & Asser shirts currently on Vinted, at a fraction of the shop price. (Tip: Under the 'brand' heading for your search, type in Turnbull...then tick the box.)
All the best to you Sir.
