    Amazing how good this amp sounds even through just the lab mic.
    It’s important to note that the jvm range (and uk made marshalls in general) cost less than half in Europe than what they cost in the us.
    Also I think for what it is, the amp is at least built to be repairable. All the digital components are on a separate board, so they can be replaced without having to replace the whole main pcb. Also it‘s easy to get access to all the parts, like e.g the front panel without having to take apart the whole amp.
    Here in Europe, they usually go for about 500-1000€ used, which is a pretty good deal in my opinion.

    I love the JVM series! Six years ago I got my hands on JVM 410HJS and I have been in love ever since. Along with the Plexi Marshall 200 Major ( I had the PA version), it is the best sounding Marshall I have ever heard.

      He seems to like them too, because he is still using them the last time I checked. I bet he has spares though. I found the schematics for both versions, but I am not going to pretend I understand enough to work out the differences and how they affect the overall tone. I am looking for info where somebody has already done that for us. Short cuts :D

      Better than a JCM800 reissue?

    • @Walks-With-Pride
      @Walks-With-Pride ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@geomusicmove I think the JVM is much better than the JCM. Back in the late 80s I had both a JCM 2203 and a 2204. Both were full stacks, and I played them in stereo. At first I was satisfied with the sound they produced. But later I bought a used Marshall 200 Major and my world was never the same. If I recall correctly there were three variations of the 200 Major, and the one I had was the PA version. Without a doubt, I think that was the best Marshall I ever used. I currently have the JVM410 HJS half stack which I play in stereo with a Fender Twin Reverb. I have a 2555X which is based off of the JCM 800. But, it is not up to par with the JVM. At least not to my ears. Everyone is different, so please don't take my opinion seriously.

    • @geomusicmove
      @geomusicmove ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Walks-With-Pride Not many people rate the JVMs or the Jubilees higher than the 800s, but like you say everyone's needs/tastes are different. The only 100 watter Marhsall I've onwed was a JCM900 combo 2x12 back in the 90s, I don't care most people hate on the 900s, to me it was a glorious amp, very versatile and never felt I needed ODs or boosters with it, so there you have it.
      I've never owned a 100w 800, but only one of the 20w Studio Classic ones.It wasn't for me, it had a harshness to it I couldn't get past so I sold it on. I'm seriously considering getting an 800 reissue but my fear is whether it might be as harsh as the Studio version.

    • @Walks-With-Pride
      @Walks-With-Pride ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geomusicmove I enjoyed reading your comment. I think you should go ahead and get the JCM 800. I don't recall there being any harshness in their sound at all. Like I said I had two and I had no problems with either of them. The JCMs sound a hundred times better than the Silver Jubilee. They look cool, but the tone they produce is rather mediocre, in my opinion. The JCM is a good choice. I don't think you will regret getting one. I wouldn't mind having one again.

    I had a VS265 212 that has similar problems. This was the first amp I decided to try to fix myself. If you hit a power chord you see the cabinet "move". I pulled the chassis and with the help of a magnifier headset, I found several "cold" solder joints. I got those reflowed, and found the cab to have that crazy vibration. I made a 5/8 thick back board, and I also added an upright wooden support vertical in the center. The amp was sounding great at this point, but it had already ruined my trust in it so i sold it. I went from there hand wired and tube amps only. I did buy a Jet City 20 watter for practice and a few others, I guess it all depends on your amp budget.

    Your diagnosis at the beginning was great. I thought when I 1st heard the "comb-filtering" I thought that you were running a phaser lol and I was wondering why because it's so unlike you. Though I love and have had/do own Marshalls, I actually have this model on my bucket list because of the wattage {similar to the DSL-40 which is a kick-ass workhorse combo my buddy has that I've tried but don't own, so being to compare their build through your expert tech eyes was a treat. Can't wait for the fix and play. Looks a bit more prone to shock/vibration due to layout/construction/ complexity.

  • @lamontprospect9974

    I bought one brand new 2 years ago and didn't play it for a year, never played it at High volume.
    I went to turn it on after a year of not playing it and all I heard was crackling.
    I took it into my amp man and it was not the tubes, it was not a resistor, it was a silver Micah capacitor.
    He said it was rare for that to go out and he replaced it and it sounds like brand new again.

    Would be keen to hear more of your thoughts on these Marshall 205C amps! Curious whether also whether any mods can be done to ‘improve’ the amp, fully understanding also that ‘improving’ can be somewhat subjective when it comes to tone. I have a 205C and actually love the tone. The duo of the ‘mismatched’ speakers that Marshall selected for this combo is really nice - nice full and warm tones.

    I have a 410H which I bought around the time of the JVM release on to the market and it was great but as I've gotten older I find myself not enjoying it so much. Something as simple as using a power supply that is shared with too many other electrical devices can cause it to be so noisy and there's just too much messing around with the 4 channels then 3 gain stages on each. I just go to my 80s JCM800 now as it's simple.

    I just purchased a UK 2005 JCM2000 off the Internet that was supposed to be in mint condition, What would make DSL 100 sound flat, fuzzy, with barely any harmonics, lacking compression, there's still sound when I turn the volume right off unless I tap on the volume knob, I checked the bias with a cheap multimeter, power tubes look old but there seems to be some life in them, this is driving me crazy, if you were to take one guess, what should be my next move if you don't mind me asking? ( please help, i haven't stopped for days)

    • @ElmaRaniyo

      The first step is to replace all the old tubes with some that you are sure that are in good condition.
      I've been tempted to replace random parts wen all was needed is a tube swap, if isn't the case at least you will have spares.
