Hi old mechanic, maybe for the new to the tools viewer. Taking a picture on the mobile phone as they disassemble parts might be a good idea. Just a confidence thing. 👍
Thank you for your help!!!! Here I am changing the brakes of my 2009 BMW 1200GS, almost 40k miles!!! Happily saving money in the maintenance to use on the road, traveling… taking my kids, my wife for a ride!!!!
I’m 64 yrs old. I started riding again about 2 year ago. I now own 5 motorcycles. After a crooked mechanic tried charging me $11k for breaking my 2007 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 I stared doing my own maintenance and repairs. Your hints and tips videos have been very helpful. Btw, I have two BMW’s. A 1997 r850r w/ 105,000 miles and a 2013 1200rt w/45,000 miles. Much appreciated. Oh, I use cheap harbor freight tools. Occasionally, when using my torque wrench I attach the digital torque on the manual torque to make sure it’s in spec.
Great movie! I like that you show the cleaning and lubrication process. This allows inexperienced people to properly use BMW service procedures. A dose of humor makes your videos unique. Thanks a lot!
First of all you have a great sense of humour! Second you have the best maintenance videos in TH-cam especially for bmw, because that's the bikes that i ride the last 10 years, and i also do things on my own. Your videos are complete with details and very helpful for a newbie and also for someone who has some skills in engineering because you are the Old good Mechanic!! Greetings from greece!! And if you have a trip here send me to roll together with the bikes and drink some Beers!!! Keep up the good work!!
In the past I had a R1200s on which I did all the routine maintenance. A couple of years ago I traded it in for a new Triumph which I am too scared to touch. Your videos are tempting me to go back to an old BMW, I am considering an R nine T.
My rear calliper on my XR is the same and I take off and clean, works perfectly, been doing the same with the front callipers and the dust seals have pushed up next to the pistons, the garage serviced the bike and didn’t see, I pumped out the pistons to clean them and saw the rubber and they were difficult to push back. I find you get less done at the garage and the price keeps going up, mu bike has 60,000 miles, bought almost new Hayes callipers for the same price as seal kits for both sides. I really like the clear and concise way you explain things.
Hello, So nice to find your TH-cam channel! I have the same bike, GS1200 2010, now with 180.000 Kms it's my bike since new. Just serviced at the Dealer for 10.000KM and 60.000Km to have BMW warranty. I do the maintenance here at home, it's fun, easy and better service quality than many dealers. Thank you Sir! Love your videos !!!!!! Keep going !! hahahhahahahahah
Hi old mechanic, thank you very much for your help, it's always a pleasure for me to watch your channel. I no longer knew how to install the top spring, now I can continue my work..

Grtn Eddy
Hello Old Mechanic from the USA, I love your channel. I hope in the future you will do more work on the Kawasaki 1500 Classics. I own a 2001. Because of your video on changing the clutch plates I was able to work on my clutch plates. You are the best. Thank you again and I will be watching for those Kawasaki's. Keep them coming. Stay well. You are best mechanic 👍 also have 11 years hornet 600 and i practice your tips every time and also have break calipers like new 👍👍👍 all good i wish and more work 😀
Thank you so much for this video and the detailed MotoScan reviews. Just replaced my rear brake master cylinder on my 1200RT and changed front/back brake fluid as guided by you using MotoScan. Totally successful and keep up the good work.
Same for me after few years of watching shit servicing in garages and dealerships I decided to do everything my self. Befor I did on my V strom 1000( bike was sold with 111000km on the clock with few small problems which I have solved my self) my klr 650 has 45 000 km off road no problems and my gsa 1200 2012 with 65000km . Now I'm doing big services on my gsa and I found few striped bolds, broken parts all done by professional mechanics in professional garages. Sad because it should not be like that. Thank you for your content it's really good and you are such a nice man ( are you Scottish? )
Hi Michal, your story about dealer maintenance is what I have seen soo many times. Your choice to do your own maintenance could be the reason that your Vstrom went up to 111000 km. The best thing about doing your own maintenance is that YOU can choose your own parts, AND your own oil. When I bought my GS (allways BMW dealer maintained) the first thing I did was doing a big maintenance.. and gues what..? I was terrible. The airfilter was never ever renewed, allthough it showed up on the bills, that the previeus owner had.. The 'inner' 2 sparkplugs.. NOT renewed.. ect ect.. Anyway thank you for your kind words, and I am from the Netherlands. Greets and drive save.
The great work again❤. Will you do video change front brake disc? I want to change front disc and I don't know how. Thaks for everything a you are the best💪.

Hello! Like your caliper video, thx! (Newbee question) sometime you use bel ray greace, sometime cupper greace… what the rule of thumps to decide which one to use in différents situations?
I love your channel. Simple and honest. A true love for bikes in my opinion. I have a r1200gsa. A lovely bike but would like to get a vmac 1200 lol. What would be the best bike to work on? I concerned on the modern electrics with the bmw but also concerned on the parts availability for the vmax. Helppp!
Hi thanks for your videos I have cleaned and flushed the brake fluid for my front callipers using your dish soap and toothbrush method and am going to do the rear calliper next and replace my final drive oil and grease the splines. One question though my bike is a 2010 r1200gs Adventure and I know the bike has linked brakes so the rear calliper is controlled by the front lever as well. Is there any benefit to bleeding some of the fluid from the rear calliper using the front lever, maybe to flush old fluid from the pipe that links the two systems?
Hello Tom I’m considering buying a 2011 R1200GS with ESA and 12k miles full service history. What things should I look out for before buying. Many thanks Brian
Hello old mechanic, I have to say that you are doing an excellent job and I devoured all your BMW videos. You should go on TV with your charismatic way. I have a question: in one of your videos you use a ratchet wrench that has a knob on the bottom handle that can be used to move the nut to completely unscrew a screw. Could you please name the make of this and also how this tool is called? Thank you very much!
Nondejuh, look realy brand new 😂... Ik heb al een hoop geleerd van je . Net een R1200Gs aangeschaft maar ik weet nu al er moet heel veel onderhoud plaats gaan vinden.

Thank you for this video - do you lubricate the piston before pushing it back in? I have a 2015 GS1200, the rear brake is always grinding on the disc (while riding in on 2nd gear I kill the engine and I can hear the back wheel disc rubbing against the brake pad), so I need to rebuild the rear caliper but I don't know if I should be lubricating the pistons or just clean and push back in?
Hi, i enjoy your videos so much. thank you for sharing with us ! I have a question about cleanig the caliper. You pushed the brake lever for coming out the zylinders to clean them. should i be carefull here ? could the zylinder jump out the caliper, or did they stop before ?

It's not always i down shift but most of times is when i down shift. What you think it's failing here?
