This video is nearly academic in its execution; a rare thing to see on TH-cam, where guides instead tend to be hastily cobbled together gameplay with just "lets wing it" explanation. Bravo, sir.
One thing I would like to add is that the higher your Warfare skill is the harder it is for enemies to perfect block/master strike your combos -- which means 4 hit combos become more and more likely especially against opponents who are not as skilled as you.
Combos can be tricky to pull off and I've noticed that if uf you try to pull off the same one over and one, the enemy will be more likely to interrupt or counter. But if you mix it up or use fients frequently you'll be more likely to land them. Combo it with the perk that increases famage with consecutive hits. This really shines when the enemy gets down to low or no stamina. I was getting ambushed once and was stuck a minute from death via bleedout. Managed to get through the "leader's" defense and snowballed three combos with my akmost broken sword, then got the other two down with master strikes and false edge. Was at 1 HP when i stopped the bleeding. I felt like such a badass.

Something you didn't mention but I think an underrated use of the dodge in this game is using it to reposition yourself when fighting multiple opponents. If I feel surrounded I will sometimes do a dodge toward the direction where there are less enemies then disengage and sprint to a better location. Sometimes I'll just do it accidentally too which is nice. I wouldn't recommend the disengage and sprinting strategy when facing multiple enemies if you don't have the sprinter perk or one of them happens to be carrying a polearm because the tackle reach on polearms is insane and do insane damage to the player.
@@ThatOtherGamer skip ahead to 1:20 in my bandit camp video. The dodge trick got me out of the weird sloping woods back onto flatter more open ground for the fight.
To dodge, you also have to suddenly change your movement direction just to side or backwards direction you’re not moving. So anywhere but forward. And of course you can go diagonally, but you can’t move left and right at the same time, so of course there is always an opportunity to dodge. I say this because I see you always stop for a moment before dodging and there is just no reason for that. I do recommend while attempting to dodge to do a perfect parry after too, cause if you dodge successfully, a perfect parry won’t interrupt that dodge. In my experience, when you dodge to lessen their morale, they will have less defense if nothing else. This leaves them master striking less which is just really good for combos.
Hey! Thank you for your work! I love your content. I was just thinking... What combos you do recommend 'dropping' (since we cannot spec them all) of which weapon category? Thanks!

I still don't understand how you do combos. Do I need to enable first Combos from Bernard. I have the perk enabled, but I can't seem to trigger one combo. Does the first strike in the combo have to hit and not be blocked ? Do you need to do all 3 moves as soon as the previous one finishes? I need the for dummies guide
Question I can't seem to find an answer to. Everything is telling me to train with Bernard to unlock master strike. He's not at the training grounds, I've already passed that point and on to investigating Limpy. Does he go back at some point, or did I just miss this major point in combat?
yes he comes back after you finish part of that quest. that is the only point of the story where bernard leaves training grounds. but kudos to you for coming that far without unlocking master strikes
If I know anything about how the AI works, executing advanced comabt moves on lower level enemies, like dodging, will make them more likely to surrender due to being outmatched in skill. In turn, with the taunt perk, it'll seem to almost force them to surrender
I wish combos were more viable… especially when your stats are higher. It’s just the chance of a baddie getting a master strike on you is too high in my opinion. Like maybe a perk that allows you to dodge an opponent’s master strike, or for each NPC they have a certain weakness. Like maybe they favor a side for master strikes, or they don’t do master strikes but are really good at interrupting combos. I love this game, but I do wish once you are maxed out on a weapon and related skills, the combat could change from defensive to more aggressive without such a disruptive amount of opponents master strikes. Just my opinion don’t bully me saying “the game is realistic stfu” lol. I get it, I just want a thing haha
Bro, why do you have this slow mo effect for perfect block? I got it only when Bernard try to teach few first times. And now it’s always so fast, so it is problem for me to block it🤖
When you time the block correctly that slow mo effect is applied. Its not like the slow mo in the tutorial, it doesn't help you land the block. As far as I can tell its just for immersive effect. Or maybe a moment to plan want you want to do next.
everytime i try to use the move where u strike from above and then side and then l;eft below it fails at very fist strike or 2nd. enemy either dodge or block. even common bandits got defense
It doesn't work all the time by design, some opponents seem to be better at defense than others. Try it at the tourney, the first challenger is easier than the rest according to my tests.
Try training your warfare skill, the lower it is, the easier it is for enemies to parry your attacks, on the contrary, the higher it is, the harder it is for enemies to parry your attacks
I like this game, im playing right now and im loving it. But i wish combos were more "easier" to do cause enemies always block the attacks, its almost impossible to do the four attacks combo.

My issue is the target switching/locking you on, Its pure dogshit the amount of time I get hit by a guy I'm trying to target and the lock is stopping me from switching is a joke. Also dogs in combat with bandits are so OP they lock you down or you can't hit them because they are so small and the hit registration is so shit sometimes. Another great feature is Halberd locking you in an animation from literal miles away I jumped over a small stream and the dude caught me in an animation over the stream and dragged me back over. Also the incredible bush feature is a joke literal adamantium bushes. They need to improve combat and the open world a lot for KCD2 and let us walk through bushes like almost every other game. Also please add gore and dismemberment a supposed "Realistic" game of this period isn't realistic without sheer brutality of combat.
Just finished the game and I find particularly sad the way fights and combos are defined in this game..Best strategy is waiting for a move and counter (MS) which is BOORING or clinch and frame perfect strike... against anyone that isn't a peon, the 2nd combo will almost always be MS'd back....

spam master strike and don't bother. after a master strike stab in the face with sword or smash head with mace. don't bother comboing, the only good combos only those that target head. and at that point you should drop combos and just strike in the head anyway. combos that target the body or limbs perform worse. for example, look at the one on 7:53 - this combo barely did any damage whatsoever and a stab in the face might take about 50% hp. also, only first hit after a master strike is guaranteed, the second one is a gamble - you might as well recieve a master strike yourself it stays true even with Better Combat And Something Something mod, it just gets more difficult. however, without this mod you may be pinushed for each attack you perform with master strike, so with this mod master strikes are not your only option anymore
depends. you have combos for different types of weapons. two handed combos cannot be used with shield and one hand weapon, and vice versa. but there are combos for one hand sword that can be used while having shield equipped
1. All mace and axe combos can be performed while using a shield. 2. No longsword combos can be performed with a shield, but you can use Blunt Strike and Binding Strike if you have the perks. 3. Half-Swording and Double Stab can't be done with a shield.
It's really unfortunate how much they botched the implementation of combat in this game. I hope the second installment does better. There are quite a few cool options here - including the combos with, apparently, various effects, the clinching, dodging and ripostes. Unfortunately the entire game just comes down to only Master strike every fight and everything else is tangential. The game punishes taking incentive way too much by allowing opponents to master strike you in return. Higher level enemies especially are impossible to land a single strike on without taking damage yourself in return. Dodging is also a big "ok nice, but why?". Like you yourself already stated: a dodged attack will not allow you to follow anything up. So why would you ever dodge then? I think part of the reason the resulting system is so strange is because they wanted to make it "realistic" first and foremost.
After doing the tournament I aint a fan how the AI can do things we cant. Many times if I try to combo im getting master striked cause the ai cheats & never fucks up 😒 we seen this in Darksouls if they ai wants to parry u its not percentage based its u getting parried 😂 then 1 shot. I swear they can speed up their animations when they losing badly, ill go from MS their thrust to its so fast it doesn't even give me the opportunity to react. Or the cheap shit of when I do MS/Go for it/Perfect block the game doesn't register it & i get a wambo combo to the face. Then the clinch spam & their ability to walk faster than u when they wanna spam it gets old quickly! The 1st person fov sucks its too zoomed in cant even see half the times wtf the opponent doing. Even if i hit the combo correctly the game wouldn't give me no special animations but id see the ai spam 4 or 5 hit attacks then rip my shield away to poke my face & im like wtf is this cheating bs! yes i do have 2 combos unlocked 1 for swords 1 for longsword neither actually work they just throw out regular attacks which i assume is not what its supposed to do. I actually washed most the tournament, Stephen was the 1st suspicious 1 doing some bs. Followed by Peter who I beat 2 times but he's full of shit with that hunter sword any attempts at feint face poke or combos was met with MS or the game conveniently not registering blocks despite my method of stand im place & MS everyone then combo worked great earlier. I caught 1 guy with this crazy 5 or 6 hit combo till he was done 🤣 he just gave up defense which was a 1st since he wasnt even close to defeat but every hit sent him flying into the corner stumbling. Combat definitely should've & could've been better & made actually realistic. Give me a sword a out of shape 30 yr old & I guarantee any hema instructor will be worried or terrified cause i can actually feint attacks & shield bash, kick, grab my enemy back! Elbow them in a bind etc. Let me attack their damn legs! 1 shin poke & thats it I win! 🤣

Its like sports, many techniques - even named ones but people rarely do it, or just do it on request or just to be showy. Stick to the bread and butter, Ciao
So you have to have 3 hands or play the keyboard like a concert pianist
Listen up, games REALLY fucking fun. Read this.
Basically, your bread and butter to learn will be PERFECT BLOCK(when you click block at the right time- block when you see the Green Shield), RIPOSTE(when you do normal attack right after perfect block) and MASTER STRIKE(perfect block but needs a specific/earlier timing, henry automatically does an attack, even with unique animations).
COMBOS are good, but they obviously are just fillers. Try do combos when you get an opportunity after doing an attack or two, dont stress on it too much. I can’t get any combo to work. Even the basic one that Bernard teaches, I can’t get it to work, he just keeps shouting “no” at me
My issue is the target switching/locking you on, Its pure dogshit the amount of time I get hit by a guy I'm trying to target and the lock is stopping me from switching is a joke.
This entire word salad is hilarious. So much skill issue and 😂😂😂. Bushes, bro cmon lmfaoooo. They use them like walls 😂, noobs man.
Man, combos are really difficult to do. At least when you are at low level.
Just finished the game and I find particularly sad the way fights and combos are defined in this game..Best strategy is waiting for a move and counter (MS) which is BOORING or clinch and frame perfect strike... against anyone that isn't a peon, the 2nd combo will almost always be MS'd back....

COMBOS are literally just fashion. to be showy in a way, and are not needed to win fights.
spam master strike and don't bother. after a master strike stab in the face with sword or smash head with mace. don't bother comboing, the only good combos only those that target head. and at that point you should drop combos and just strike in the head anyway. combos that target the body or limbs perform worse. for example, look at the one on 7:53 - this combo barely did any damage whatsoever and a stab in the face might take about 50% hp. also, only first hit after a master strike is guaranteed, the second one is a gamble - you might as well recieve a master strike yourself
it stays true even with Better Combat And Something Something mod, it just gets more difficult. however, without this mod you may be pinushed for each attack you perform with master strike, so with this mod master strikes are not your only option anymore
Jesus Christ be praised
Also master strike
I feel quite hungry
Good health to you.
Blud is on normal mode
Wait…. ARE NONE OF MY COMBOS WORKING BECAUSE MY SHIELD IS EQUIPPED!?!?!?
depends.
you have combos for different types of weapons.
two handed combos cannot be used with shield and one hand weapon, and vice versa.
but there are combos for one hand sword that can be used while having shield equipped
1. All mace and axe combos can be performed while using a shield.
2. No longsword combos can be performed with a shield, but you can use Blunt Strike and Binding Strike if you have the perks.
3. Half-Swording and Double Stab can't be done with a shield.
It is hard to pull off.
Censoring a kurwa... that's knowledgeable of you.
There's no point to dodging in kcd1 except for triggering the taunt perk and to look cool. I'm hoping for some good news to the combat system of 2.🤞
Standard mode is so easy you don't need any strategy or skill.
