Whoever Priority has as their stylist for bike design is defiantly earning their paycheck. While I’m no big fan of step through frames this is another great looking bike.
Yeah, the knee thing. My wife runs her seat low as well. I'm constantly looking at her steep knee angle while she's peddling, hoping for the best. I even gradually raised her seat ever so slightly every time we went for a ride without her knowing, until I got it up enough to suit us both. She got suspicious a time or two, but I used my best poker face and got away with it. Nice job
Ha ha, good one, mate! :D I only wish I could get my husband (who despite being a mechanic has little to no interest in bikes) to spend more time adjusting and fine-tuning mine. He works long hours all week, is busy with his own projects and stuff on the weekends and doesn't want to be bothered with it. He just swapped out the seat on one of my rides, and I just know the saddle height isn't quite where it should be.
As a bike mechanic I can't agree more. They'll both (his sister and his niece) have terrible knee problems before long if they keep riding like that. It may be comfortable for now, but it will damage their joints and tendon putting power down with their knees that bent. Especially important for the still growing niece obviously
I never understood the insistence of new bike riders of keeping their feet totally flat on the ground while still seated. I mean, I realize that they feel better balanced, but unless their pedals are forward-mounted (where they can still get proper leg extension), having their knees bent like that during the pedal stroke is a killer, especially when going uphill. Where I ride is a mixture of asphalt and sandy trails. I hate being run off the road by a passing motorist :( (you often lose traction due to the soft, uneven ground, if the front fork doesn't actually threaten to wrest out of your hands by the inevitable drop (rut) between the poorly-maintained asphalt and the shoulder). But here it looks like they're riding in quiet suburban residential areas where the traffic speed limit is low and that should not be a factor. I just replaced the seat on my 24" Roadmaster (I'm shorter than Kev's sister) for the second time; and although the post is nearly maxed out, I still don't feel like I'm getting enough leg extension. Last spring I'd briefly rode a borrowed Kulana cruiser with custom cranks (the previous owner had swapped them out for his gf, who was 5'8"). Surprisingly they worked quite well for me (you just had to be careful not to lazily lock your knees when making turns, or the pedals might scrape the ground, lol). Anyway, could lengthening the cranks be an alternate solution for Kev's sister? I guess he'd be the best one to know that; but I'm just curious whether it's a viable option or if anyone else here has tried it.
It’s great that you are looking after your sister. I am thrilled for her that she has rediscovered cycling. Please, though, raise that seat just a tad. She’s too low. It’s inefficient and tougher on her knees than needed. Once she’s used to the feel, she’ll enjoy what seems like a great bike even more.
Your asessment of big box bikes being the gateway is what I consider spot on. Not everyone has the kind of free money to just throw $500 or more at an unknown they might like for a week then forget about it.
Andrew Singleton I love people who go out and buy higher end bikes and then decide they aren’t going to use them...it’s the best way to pickup a barley used bike for cheap when they ultimately decide to sell them.
@@ricercr44 I mean yea that's fair and awesome when you can score a windfall like that, but at the same time not everyone lives in an area where that is a practical strategy.
I think it has to do more with not having knowledge about bikes.I bought a$350 dollar bike from Sports Authority thinking it was a good bike. I quickly found out it was woefully inadequate. Was scouting out Giant carbon frame road bikes when I switched gears to mountain bikes. Got an entry level Trek X Cal 8 which is nice and gets me in the mountains but started saving for a better FS bike immediately. If you want to be serious you have to get your priorities straight and start saving . Anyone can do it.
For a long time I've thought Priority doesn't offer great value for money. $500 for a quill stem, no QR wheels, 3 speeds and barebones tires and a coaster brake. But the fact is there's really not a lot of options out there that will get you a Gates drive at this price - they've done a good job of putting together the package around that drivetrain. The weight was a surprise, and the ease of use from a coaster brake and internal-hub gears will probably win over those who just want things to work. For me as a tinkerer and tech-head there are better values bikes out there with disc brakes, racks and fenders, cushier tires, wider or more upgradeable drivetrains... but there's not much out there to beat this drivetrain for this price.
Three speeds are perfect for most riders, Coaster brakes are an asset for a utility bike, bolted axles are secure and simple and discourage casual theft, and quill stems work fine, are adjustable, and look classic. Stock tires are usually lame. Some Marathon 40mm tires would make this ride better, as would fenders, lights and a rack.
Priority just added an option to the Classic Plus: freewheel with front/rear v brakes for $50 on top of the standard price tag. That puts it in line with their Classic Plus Gotham. The sole difference is the handlebars and seats. I cancelled a prior bike order with them to reorder the Classic Plus with this option in the blush color I really wanted.
I ride a lot of beach cruiser bikes . Single speed with coaster brakes. I've started putting front brakes on them for safety. I was riding over a steep bridge and had to stand on the pedals on the way up. Once over the top I let it coast as the bike picked up speed I tried to apply some brake to control the speed. The chain broke and it was a wild ride down. When I got home I cannibalized a front rim brake from one of my junk/parts bikes. It's now standard practice for me.
I had a junk Walmart bike (used) when I learned to ride last November. I knew right away I needed an upgrade. I finally received my Priority Classic Plus in Blush in small with the new freewheel option. It's gorgeous bike and well made. I look forward to many years of riding it.
I started on a Sam's Club bike. It wasn't that much better than a box store bike. That was over 20 years ago and thanks to that bike, I fell in love with cycling. Yes I have spent way too much money on many bikes, but I am in amazing shape and it's all thanks to cycling. Worth every penny
Always had junky bikes as a kid, didn't stop me from having fun. As a college kid on a tight budget now I have some slightly less junky but still budget centered bikes. starting from such humble machines really makes you appreciate even a slight improvement. I have a kink launch BMX bike, and a 6ku fixie. Great combination in my opinion.
WoW, Priority Bikes main office is in my City. Thank you so much. I was looking for a belt drive bike. And now I can go for test ride and see which one Feels good for me.
My used junk Gauntlet Next Walmart bike is a gateway bike. I'm learning on it. I'm over two months into this new bike journey and already bought a Priority. Now, if it would get here sooner than April, I'd be happy.
Have to admit that I only recently bought my first belt drive bike - a Cube Editor which comes with the Gates CDX system coupled with a Shimano Alfine 11 speed hub - and I'm really impressed with the drive system. Silent, smooth and such low, low maintenance. Just wish I'd found belt drives earlie....
I'm a brand new rider at age 45. I'm ironically learning on a second hand Walmart exclusive, 24" Next Gauntlet, and I'm already researcing my next bike. I was looking at Trek, but found Priority. Low maintenance and smooth ride is something. I fascinated by the drivetrain, too.
My journey.. Couple of bikes I cant remember from Walmart.. riding east Texas trails>upgraded to specialized pitch> moved to Kansas City>bought Raleigh Kodiak>bought Evil The insurgent.... With a mix of BMX and skateboards. Good times. I will agree with the statement gateway bike.
I find the Priority product line so simple and exceptional and incredible values in their respective categories. I went higher end with a 600 due to my size an weight but will suggest several when l visit my sister later this year. I might be doing the same for mine as you did yours.
First off, that Priority Classic is one sweet looking ride. Second, yes, Kevin, I agree with you that a big box bike can be a gateway bike for something better. I bought a Hyper Hydroform to do just that. A transition. But with the upgrades I'm putting on the Hyper, I expect it to bring me a lot of fun for a number of years. But....and this is a big BUT, a big box bike, if not set up properly, which is the case half the time, can, absolutely, deter someone from riding altogether....especially someone on a tight budget who just can't afford to take it to a bike shop for adjustments and/or repairs. And on top of that, the shame you feel by taking a big box bike to the bike shop and they tell you things like "If you would've saved a little more to buy a good bike" or "That isn't a very good bike because of that heavy frame. You will never be able to put that on a trail, even with upgrades" and blah blah blah things of that nature. It's just very discouraging. I know first hand. Lord, if you're not on a Trek, Specialized, Diamindback, etc... It's just not good enough. But i suppose that goes with the territory and, take it for what it's worth, partially the manufacturers fault for mass producing poorer quality bikes when there are some budget friendly better components that they could equip those bikes with and have a better name for themselves for a few extra bucks. But hey, i see those "better quality" "big name brand" bicycles with cheap components, pull brakes, 3x setups that don't get near the flak big box bikes do. Just saying....
You really need to research what your talking about. The hyper modded is every bit as good or better than MOST LBS bikes for xc trail. Follow the suspension upgrades kev made or put a 200mm rear shock on it. Plus a slackerizer headset and extend the epixons to 130mm and you have a Trek EX8.This isn't rocket science with a good set of tools. Total cost will be about 800 bucks with a 1x system 52th set up. If you dont really ride then dont invest in a serious trail bike the hyper can become, but honestly if you are ashamed then that's too weird. Aliexpress has everything you need to build a monster trail bike out of the hyper frame that will shame most anything in performance from any other brand for cheaper. Kev is just reporting on information from bike enthusiast and there is so much information out there its absurd. The XR PRO has thousands of reviews and all of them positive to what a beast that bike is for a trail bike. Research the issues before thinking a bike is junk. Names mean nothing in 2019 unless you talking about electronic shifting and competition downhill bikes. A better name is not the goal in cycling.
They are off the charts a value. If you just change out the fork on the 700c then you have a 2000 dollar plus ebike for 700 dollars. Check out the Benelli ebike as well because the value is simply ridiculous. Suntour nex 700c forks cost 100 dollars on Aliexpress and that puts both bikes on suspension forks. Walmart is simply killing it these days.
A big box bike got me back into the sport! My wife bought me a GT Aggressor last June and today I ride an Intense Tracer 275A. I still have the GT and use it for my daily commuter because the geometry lends itself better to that then tail riding.
Regarding maintenance on that Nexus 3: Shimano recommends servicing the hub annually. The internals come out of the hub shell, then are soaked in oil; you don't have to use the fancy purple Shimano stuff. You could probably learn to do it at home, IIRC the only relatively specialized tool you'd need would be a cone wrench or two.
I’m glad that you mentioned that she could raise the seat up, cause holy does it look like it needs to go up. But if she’s comfortable then what do I know???? I think that Big box store bikes can be gateway To better bikes.
Your sister's riding position, My input, Drop the the handle bar's stem 2" inches lower, I road bike in a touring club for 10 years, Older rider's would coax other members in their riding position, They changed my dash and crash style of riding of a delivery boy to an orderly group rider, You got it right Kev, Slow and steady coaxing.
P.S. Apparently they no longer carry the parallel straight slanted top tube (mixte?) frame. But the other similar belt-drive bikes are selling for five hundred dollars.
For me it was a Dicks sporting goods big box bike that got me back into riding. A diamondback Edgewood, which lasted me 3 months before I went and sold that and got a trek ds1, which led to n+1 which was my giant contend. Cut to 2 mos later I sold my trek and downgraded to a gravity base camp mtb to get more of a trail bike (and the trek was too nice to let it get banged up). I’m back to a n+1 point again and I’m looking a giant defy now. Bikes, the most healthy addition ever!
not my style of riding around streets, South Texas streets, your gonna need a full suspension fork with 160mm travel! LOL! but it is a good looking bike...good Job Kev! just bought the female aluminum comp 27.5 for my sister so she can ride with my niece (upgrades will come every birthday and such, but as of now it's stock) MINE is MODDED! Great Job as always Kev!
Almost a Dutch riding position. If the bar grips were a little closer to that upright body you could get the increased bend in the elbow that would make it perfect.
I'm looking for a belt drive only bike like priority, curious if there was any other brands besides priority you would recommend? Im looking to purchase 2 belt drive bikes for paved trail riding, But I'm looking at an 18 miles (ca. 29 km) long trail with no hills. So comfort is a must and I'm not to worried about speeds so 1-7 speeds are fine, I do want to use bike for some exercise. Price looking at financing them both 1200-1400 total purchase or less.
I started mountain biking on a super cheap Mongoose y design dual suspension bike 10 years ago. It wore out so I got a Gary Fisher mullet and I've been riding local bike shop bikes ever since. Not that I feel I have more fun on them but they hold up better for 5000 plus miles I usually ride every year.
Why is the front brake adjusted with the quick release mechanism in the "open" position? Oh and on both bikes, raise the seats raise the seats raise the seats. Please.
awesome can you got your sister back into cycling and I'm trying to get mine and I'm trying to get back into it to we might end up buying priority bikes though cuz I don't want the damn chains
Maybe do a review of a vitus mtb? They are pretty cheap with decent components just wondering how they would fare on a trail before I actually pull the trigger on one.
Only complaint I had was their rubbish stock system on CRC. I bought an e-sommet for £3750 then was told 4 days later they couldn't sell me one. Then another 3 days for my money back. Went canyon instead. Delivery system wasn't good but the bike is outstanding.
Was trying to get into MTBing but most of the local bike shop offerings were 700 with straight head tubes and 3x transmitions. So my sights have been set on the nucleus.
I read in IKEA that the Slada was recalled as the drive chain snapped on a few resulting from a owner's receiving minor injuries, a shame really because rider carelessness might have been a contributing factor 🤔 I hope that your sister enjoys the bike and I second the seat height comment 😔
Haven't been able to find where to buy this bike in Canada. But came across a used one a good drive away. I would normally buy a small frame but the used one is a medium frame. I'm 5'4". Do think I should make the drive & give it a try?
Go give it a look. One straddle on the saddle will tell you if it’s the right size for you. Or have them measure the seat height at its lowest setting. Then duplicate that height on another bike to see
The handlebars are the sole difference for posture position. The Gotham has a riser handlebar, so you're leaning a bit more than the more upright position of the swept back handlebars.
I have been a long time subscriber and finally ready to purchase a belt driven bike and cant seem to find many brands besides priority i would like to see what else is out there
The seat is way too low for her. Her knees will have a lot of big problems if she keeps riding like that. (Same with your niece!!) I really hope you do something about this!
My wife and I are moving to Seattle in a few months and wanted to know if the Priority Classic Plus' three gears would be okay for Seattle's hilly areas
3-speed isn’t much range, and hills require effort. Plus, those sweeping handlebars aren’t the best for standing on the pedals to climb. Look at the Priority 600. Pinion gearbox that is geared to easily climb Everest.
I'm interested to know how awkward the shifting it with the grips in that position. Seems like twisting from that angle would be less than ideal. Did she comment on that?
I made a very similar jump myself. I started on the Huffy Cranbrook (Red and black, best looking bike under $100) and once i was hooked, i moved one to a Fuji crosstown for some gears but to still maintain a more comfort oriented ride. Next month I'm planning on picking up a gravel bike (since I mostly ride road but still want to be able to get a little rowdy). Seems like the more I do this, the more I'm willing to spend on doing it lol.
One of these is on my purchase list, once the local road construction is complete. Now Americans need to get over the idea that step though frames are for women only.
Can you help I just bought one of these budget MTBs it's really sick it's a hard tail but one big problem my front wheels don't move very well is the disc brake rotor rubing to the brake pads can you make a video in how to fix this
on the walmart to better bike idea, sure I agree it's probably the most common scenario. For me as a kid I think all my bikes were cheap big box bikes.
Same. I inherited a bike from my brother that had a thumb shift that I took to nachez trace on a weekend and looking back 'how did he end up with a thumb shift when darned near everything in a big box budget has been twist for the past twenty years?'
Okay getting some searching on my Mongoose Excursion and there's two types one with disc brakes and one without and some reason some of them came with disc brakes don't know what it is but it's the one I got and I'm also looking at the Kent nazz at Walmart got Duel disk brakes decent tires and a hyper seat $179 definitely a very good entry crossover gravel bike
Is the Priority Turi just a reskinned Ikea Sladda? Did Priority just buy up all the recalled bikes from Ikea and repaint them, slap on a different rear hub and belt and call it a day? I've got to be crazy right?
Priority is very demanding and designs their own stuff. Still, your comment did make me go look at the Sladda 😁. I’m standing in front of it and I can see quite a few things that tell me it’s not the same frame. The Turi does have a similar look, but definitely not the same. The good news is that the Turi could satisfy the desires of those that missed out on the Sladda...plus, they would get a bike in active production.
@@KevCentral hey! Thanks for looking at that and clarifying. I wasn't mad, I was just curious because I was just looking at a blown up photo of the sladda for old times sake when I (thought), I noticed that. I missed out on buying one by exactly one day. Still, it's nice to know that Ikea really did have a good thing on thier hands minus the belt. I'm still going to get the Turi and Priority has earned every cent of my money I'm going to spend on it along with a few accessories. They are indeed a great company. 😁
Thanks, but after the review getting it repackaged and shipped a second time would almost certainly give it plenty of character marks and possibly worse.

I wouldn’t have the bikes I do without my first big box bike.
Regarding maintenance on that Nexus 3: Shimano recommends servicing the hub annually. The internals come out of the hub shell, then are soaked in oil; you don't have to use the fancy purple Shimano stuff. You could probably learn to do it at home, IIRC the only relatively specialized tool you'd need would be a cone wrench or two.
what you said at about @1:20 is really true, for just a cruiser quill stems are really good, very easy adjustment.
I’m glad that you mentioned that she could raise the seat up, cause holy does it look like it needs to go up. But if she’s comfortable then what do I know???? I think that Big box store bikes can be gateway To better bikes.
Great bike!! Kev your sister should trust you to advise her on saddle height.
That's a nice looking ride. Congrats and many happy miles.
25lbs is a good bit less than I expected, maybe due to the belt drive system.
Same here. That's a true lightweight. I was disappointed/surprised that he didn't mention the going price of the Priority bike--or did I just miss it?
P.S. Apparently they no longer carry the parallel straight slanted top tube (mixte?) frame. But the other similar belt-drive bikes are selling for five hundred dollars.
Total Dutch styling and its off the charts nice looking. My problem is the price because 100 bucks more gets you a nice E bike.
It’s not super cheap, but the belt drive pushes up the price.
The chain tensioner bolts in the frame are a good touch you should tighten them down on the axle they also keep the wheel from sliding forwards
Nice, simple and very clean bike!
Keep on riding!
Great!
Do you have a video about the Schwinn Discover?
Almost a Dutch riding position. If the bar grips were a little closer to that upright body you could get the increased bend in the elbow that would make it perfect.
Is your sister gonna start a collection like her brother. Nice lookin bike.
I'm surprised it didn't happen much sooner! :) Curious how Kev's family remained immune to his cycling enthusiasm for this long, really.
At 2:50 couldn't make out what you said about the 3-Speed.
I only have experience with Priority and IKEA belt drive bikes
Would love to see a review on the new Brilliant Cooper bikes. Seems like a great deal at $400
Whoever designs Priority bikes should get a price or something for aesthetics , they make such elegant bikes
They do make some pretty bikes. Have you seen their Brilliant L-train?
KevCentral yeah man I’ve seen your video like 10 times! Keep it on with your videos dude and greeting from Mexico! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
I bought a Turi by Priority the shipping date is Nov.30, Why so long purchase date was back in September. ?
I started mountain biking on a super cheap Mongoose y design dual suspension bike 10 years ago. It wore out so I got a Gary Fisher mullet and I've been riding local bike shop bikes ever since. Not that I feel I have more fun on them but they hold up better for 5000 plus miles I usually ride every year.
You should do a brother sister bike ride 😊👍
Nice looking bike!
Great video as always.
Why is the front brake adjusted with the quick release mechanism in the "open" position? Oh and on both bikes, raise the seats raise the seats raise the seats. Please.
Is that the small or medium Classic Plus?
I'm saving for one
Good review. Very interesting and entertaining
awesome can you got your sister back into cycling and I'm trying to get mine and I'm trying to get back into it to we might end up buying priority bikes though cuz I don't want the damn chains
You sure have a way to find pretty bikes it is a nice looking bike for me I will just change the ......... handlebars and the color wheels
Hello, I have a x caliber 9 2014 I wonder how much would the geometry change if I bought a fork with 120mm. The one I have now is 100mm
Maybe do a review of a vitus mtb? They are pretty cheap with decent components just wondering how they would fare on a trail before I actually pull the trigger on one.
I seen a guy in Austin with it, nukeproof scout, he seemed happy, he was doing tricks in parking lot, so wasn't a beginner for sure
Can't go wrong with buying vitus, no complaints about them!
Just got the vr on sale it's the best
Only complaint I had was their rubbish stock system on CRC. I bought an e-sommet for £3750 then was told 4 days later they couldn't sell me one. Then another 3 days for my money back.
Went canyon instead. Delivery system wasn't good but the bike is outstanding.
Was trying to get into MTBing but most of the local bike shop offerings were 700 with straight head tubes and 3x transmitions. So my sights have been set on the nucleus.
I read in IKEA that the Slada was recalled as the drive chain snapped on a few resulting from a owner's receiving minor injuries, a shame really because rider carelessness might have been a contributing factor 🤔
I hope that your sister enjoys the bike and I second the seat height comment 😔
Drive belt issues, and yes. I’ve told her to raise her seat, but she wants to get more comfortable first.
Then duplicate that height on another bike to see
Is there a difference in posture between this one and the Gotham edition? Thank you!
The handlebars are the sole difference for posture position. The Gotham has a riser handlebar, so you're leaning a bit more than the more upright position of the swept back handlebars.
Looks like a nice ride!
I have been a long time subscriber and finally ready to purchase a belt driven bike and cant seem to find many brands besides priority i would like to see what else is out there
On the brake caliper the small black lever should be in the down position. Its a road brake caliper
The seat is way too low for her. Her knees will have a lot of big problems if she keeps riding like that.
(Same with your niece!!)
I really hope you do something about this!
So coaster brake and internally geared? What does she think of the helmut?
She calls it her storm trooper helmet.
More neighborhood rides!!
Not bad looking it's pretty nice I guess the main thing is she's has to be happy and satisfied
Great vid and goes perfect with your channel
I'm interested to know how awkward the shifting it with the grips in that position. Seems like twisting from that angle would be less than ideal. Did she comment on that?
Moving a 3-speed isn’t much movement
Is there any difference if its a chain or belt for single gear bike? (Fixie)
Less maintenance on the belt drive system
I made a very similar jump myself. I started on the Huffy Cranbrook (Red and black, best looking bike under $100) and once i was hooked, i moved one to a Fuji crosstown for some gears but to still maintain a more comfort oriented ride. Next month I'm planning on picking up a gravel bike (since I mostly ride road but still want to be able to get a little rowdy). Seems like the more I do this, the more I'm willing to spend on doing it lol.
Pretty bike.
We should vote on kev's channel to bring the cutback back and he could send the results into Pacific cycles if they are good
When are you going to start using metric system?!
One of these is on my purchase list, once the local road construction is complete. Now Americans need to get over the idea that step though frames are for women only.
Jeffrey Clark Americans are correct you guys need to adjust.
Max Maxed I guess if you want to tap into your feminine side it could be but no.
Kevin can you review Del Sol?
The HYPER URBAN looks like a good build frame and carbon forks are only 60 bucks these days plus high quality rim brakes are dirt cheap.
Review the hyper explorer 27.5 Looks to be a pretty nice entry level bike
Rim brake on rear. Hyper hydroform is better for about the same price, imo.
amazing video keep it up!
Can you help I just bought one of these budget MTBs it's really sick it's a hard tail but one big problem my front wheels don't move very well is the disc brake rotor rubing to the brake pads can you make a video in how to fix this
👍🏼 I’ll see what I can do
Show us how to remove the rear tire and wheel to change a flat.
My knees hurt just from watching this 😟
No pain, no gain
on the walmart to better bike idea, sure I agree it's probably the most common scenario.
Great videos man! Hope you are doing well..
What speedometer is on your black bike?
Bontrager Gotime
The grips would be "bonded leather". They mix real leather hide scraps into a mush and apply it to a vinyl backing.
Can you review a Northrock mountain bike from Costco
Okay getting some searching on my Mongoose Excursion and there's two types one with disc brakes and one without and some reason some of them came with disc brakes don't know what it is but it's the one I got and I'm also looking at the Kent nazz at Walmart got
Duel disk brakes decent tires and a hyper seat $179 definitely a very good entry crossover gravel bike
@@KevCentral question. Since I'm buying the Turi - would you want to review it if I paid shipping and assembly?
Thanks, but after the review getting it repackaged and shipped a second time would almost certainly give it plenty of character marks and possibly worse.
LOVE THIS!!!!
Did he mention the price of that priority? My gf would love that exact one.
Edit: Found their website. Not bad at $500.
Hyper Hydroform
Slick bike!
she will be smoking you on the trails in no time 😂
I'm thi king about ordering one for my sister and her cat 😺
