Im a 10th grade trumpeter player in new jersey and i love ohio states marching band am i able to join and like how do i join? Do i have to go to the university or can i just join the band? And is it hard to get into?
2 MAJOR things: 1. Ask your band director for help regarding trumpet playing because i know lessons can be quite costly, but at the end of the day the band requires 3 things: 1. That you are competent at your instrument (a good benchmark Id say is being able to play grade 4-5 concert band literature with ease though every player is different and has their own things to work on) 2. That you sound good and look good while playing and marching. If you have a lot of step in your sound or you get tired easily those are things to work on 3. A bit of athleticism is required so that you look good marching wise. This i believe to be the easiest step as playing ability and playing while marching are skills that take time to develop properly. Major thing #2: Show up to summer sessions. These are free sessions from 6:30-9pm tuesdays and thursdays (sometimes wednesdays) over summer break that purely focus on marching. I gaurantee you that if you show up to these with an open mind you will improve your chances of making the band EXPONENTIALLY. You can actually show up to these starting your sophmore to junior year. And so on. Also in the event that you do end up staying in the columbus area (doesnt mean you go to osu), work on your marching outside of summer sessions too. Theres alot of information that goes into it so I hope that i havent overwhelmed you, but still let me know if you have any further questions!
@@B-rowTBDBITL-gv9rf So cool of you to reach out and help this youngster out. If they follow your advice/suggestions, we'll see them on the field! Good on you for being so kind and helpful. *~ "A candle loses nothing of its flame when lighting another candle."*
@nzer4302 I was that youngster DREAMING of making this band at one point. I want everyone to know that it is possible to make this band if you apply yourself
Never been to Ohio, but I have long admired the OSU band and especially enjoyed seeing the script Ohio all my life. As a former music major, marching band member and Texas Longhorn, I appreciate the precision and amazing hours of work that goes into each of your shows. Thanks for letting us see behind the scenes via GoPro! Best of luck in the playoffs, go band!
As soon as we see the drums stop marching and start marking time (prior to them playing the cadence) we say O-H-I-O to time the 8 counts they take to mark time. It sounds more complicated than it actually is.
Glad to say I am attending summer sessions!!! Can’t wait! Getting marching band coaching is exciting! Practicing all the school songs is key ❤! I have half of them memorized. (1st/solo trumpet)
@@B-rowTBDBITL-gv9rf got a couple years til I tryout, but when I do, I definitely will have the dynamics down so I can work on the 2nd trumpet/cornet part! Thanks 😊
Since the implication of a Go-Pro is that youre using it to record, Go-Pros do not fail you on your uniform inspection. However any other accesssories such as stickers or chains will fail you.
Our Band Director Christopher Hoch designs the drill in a software called Pyware. Then he uploads the Pyware file to another app called UDB where each dot on the field is programmed. Depending on the spot you have for that week (not everyones spot is permanent) ex: B5, is the dot you're assigned. UDB is a very helpful tool because it shows us where to go directly unlike drill flashcards or paper drill. Imagine a GPS on your iPad.
Serious question: how do y'all mount your cameras? What equipment do you use? I'm in my high school band trying to get some POV footage myself but i want to know how TBDBITL does it.
Might not work with your hat but if you have a peaked cap similar to our hats or of penn-states/MSUs, you can attach the mount of the go pro on the bill of the hat and itll stay pretty strong since its adhesive. Hope this helps!
@@SerLevi JI row is very competitive but I guess the best advice i can give is to take lessons, practice your music and marching through summer sessions!

As someone born in ohio and lived there my entire life, i appreciate that you didnt hate on us like xichigan
Y'all are awesome. The band always wins no matter what!!
You really get a feel of how difficult it must be to pick up a deep pass at night on those fields. You never get to see that POV on TV. Awesome
the shoe looks massive from the field perspective
That was truly awesome 👏
GREAT!
I want to see a video on how you all know when to go down the ramp. Curious minds wand to know.😊
