On my 30th birthday, I didn't celebrate it. I spent it all day in the hospital taking care of my terminally ill grandmother. She sang me happy birthday one more time before dying 6 days later.

I’ve worked in animal rescue and medicine all my life thanks to his love and empathy for animals.
My worst bday was during Covid, had just loss my grandma months before so it was pretty sad to not have her celebrate with me. I bought my own decorations and decorated my house by myself. I just wanted my parents and siblings to celebrate with me/ not invite my friends so no one would get sick but my dad got super drunk and decided to invite some extended family over. It totally felt like they crashed the party by eating and drinking everything and they got mad that there wasn’t enough (I only bought enough for my family). My little cousin had the nerve to smash my cake - her parents were getting divorced and she was just acting out. I was expected to just let it go and be the bigger person. Worst part was my dad never properly apologized or try to make it up to me. Now a days I just go out drinking w/ friends for my bday.

I wouldn't say that this was the worst birthday, but it was certainly bad for one moment.
Anyway, on my 17th birthday my grandma gave me $20 as a gift, and then my dad had the audacity to ask me if he could borrow those $20 from me. I instantly said no.
I always had really bad luck trying to get to NYC - something always happened in a big way to cancel my plans. So for my 39th birthday 10 years ago, I finally had tickets for 2 nights in a row for Jimmy Fallon, Tonight Show. I was thrilled. I was going to be staying with my work supervisor in the Bronx. This was my 4th attempt to get there. But then...I ended up in the hospital and had to have 2 brain surgeries that week instead. My dad flew down from my home state (mom had to stay home, she can't travel because of health issues). I was also dating a guy I had known since 5th grade, and he refused to call or text me happy birthday, and wouldn't visit me in the hospital. I had complications and my neurosurgeon almost sent me home blind out of frustration. I just wanted to be in NYC celebrating my birthday. I still haven't made it to that city - I feel like there are going to be major natural disasters if I try to go again. But that birthday really sucked.
Spent my sweet 16 in the ER with a broken knee cap. The nurse was kind enough to get me some jello and a soda.
My worst birthday was back in the mid 70s. Was married to my now ex husband at the time. A few days before my birthday, a friend of mine spilled the beans that hubby was planning a surprise party for me. My friend said that she was helping with the planning. But it seems my butt head husband called her to cancel it because he didn't think I deserved it because he felt I was a total waste of oxygen. This has haunted me every birthday since.
This year, my mom was in the hospital and I went to go see her but they took her for surgery before I could get there and my family was upset I used the gas to go see her, and no one even said happy birthday, and when mom came to that weekend she asked what I did for it and if anyone remembered, and she looked so hurt when I said no, but all I had wanted was to see her that day... I miss my mum so much...

On my 12 birthday Mother Nature gave to me, my second period (starting the periods from hell phase) and depression. I cried into my bowl of cereal. Worst part I can’t return or exchange it.

On my birthday last year I:
Overslept
Found out my bike had a tire puncture.
Waited in the rain for over an hr for a bike shop to open.
Finally got it fixed.
Arrived at college really late.
Had an ok day.
Someone tried to rip my bike from my hands and yell at me as i was leaving the train station for no apparent reason. They gave up and I cycled the rest of the way home in a panic.
Not as bad as some things in this vid but it sure as hell felt rough at the time.
This is in 2017. I had the worst birthday ever. I had woken up and was about to get on the chromebook since I was the birthday boy, but I was being bad and got sent to a time-out. I even had to go one of my events and got a sandwich for lunch even though I wanted McDonald's, and I didn't want to go to my dancing event. My cousin didn't even come over for a sleepover even though he did it in 2016, and I cried.
my entire immediate family forgot my 17th birthday. drove my sister the whole way to school and she didn’t say a word to me.
luckily, I share my birthday with my uncle. I was born on his birthday the same year he started dating my aunt and became a part of our family. so i’ve always had someone who will never forget it.
Not on my birthday, but 4 days before I had a massive seizure and was in the hospital until the official day when I got released
My 19th or 20th birthday. Invited a bunch of childhood and boarding school friends. Within the first day half of them said they couldn't come and during the next weeks one by one the rest came up with various stories/excuses as to why they had to cancel - and a few never responded. So I spent that birthday alone and pretty miserable.
My nana was born on the day Poland was invated (WWII). September 1st 1939. She was evacuated to the countryside a couple of days later because London was being bombed
My 20th birthday I spent it working at my movie theatre job. Its located in the center of a major city so we get tons of people (the movies that were playing when I worked there included the first Jurassic World movie, Inside Out, MadMax: Fury Road and Magic Mike 2 so VERY BUSY). They assigned me to clean the bathrooms all day and one of the bathrooms was COVERED in puke and shit. I remember looking at a giant clock they had in the lobby as it hit midnight and I realized I spent the first day of my 20s miserable and cleaning puke. I was also fired a week later. I didn’t work on my birthday again until last year, I work at a daycare now and the kids and other teachers make me feel so special on my birthday. My 28th was 2 weeks ago and I had a great birthday celebrating with the kids
My grandfather's brother was diagnosed with stage four lung cancsr 3 weeks ago and was layed up in the hospital, and 3 days after everyone finds out he was put into hospice. He died 4 days later on my grandfather's birthday. He was strong about it. We all went out to dinner, and i actually saw him get drunk for once, but he was in good spirits (at least he seemed like it)
Worst birthday was in 2019. Lost my dad that March and my birthday was in May. I didn't want to get up that day, did not want to go to class, did not want to do anything but stay in bed. My roommates at the time tried their best to make it an enjoyable day by singing to me and giving me cake and a card, but all I could manage to do was cry. I still have yet to really enjoy my birthday. It's just not the same anymore without my dad.
I just retired from a federal government job after 27 years and my birthday comes three days before the end of the fiscal year (September 30th), making it almost impossible to plan a fun mini vacation or day off or to even go home at a reasonable hour or do a birthday lunch with co-workers as everyone is assigned many last minute reports to measure stats over the last fiscal year, etc. It never ends.😢 Cautiously looking foward to a b'day redo in a couple months!
The only thing I have going for me bad on my birthday is that my own mother erased my name for my birthday cake to give it to a different family member. I was 5 still remember it still mad about it.
My dog died a couple weeks before my birthday and then my other dog died the day after my birthday. So yeah tears and grief were my birthday gift this year. September 4th would have been my dog's 9th birthday.
I have a lighthearted worst birthday story. I don’t remember what age I was turning just that I was a kid. My grandparents took my to this small amusement park they live nearby that I loved and we took this train tour they had. My birthday is in October, so everything is around then is horror themed, but I have always been a coward. They’d rethemed the normal cowboy show they did for this train and made it a ghost tale, complete with actors posing as monsters invading the train. I spent the whole time hiding in my brothers shirt and crying, and when we got off, from the depths of my tormented soul I cried out with all my pathetic child strength, “this is the worst birthday ever!”
My poor grandparents felt so bad XD but we all laugh about it now.

Got bullied on my birthday and my dad forgot my birthday twice.
TLDR: Wife was supposed to make my 30th birthday extra special, she let her friends plan it and they messed it up on purpose for drama's sake.
So I was gonna turn 30 and wanted a memorable birthday because I've never really had a great birthday party. Parents were lazy when I was a kid so my birthdays were more a formality then a special day.
My wife told me to leave everything to her so I let her take the reigns and run with it. Unfortunately she was very indecisive and lacked confidence. Two of her friends, who turned out to be terrible friends, convinced her to let them plan it out.
The day comes and at 6:00 pm we end up at a strip club. No one else shows up. I get an awkward lap dance then we drive to a friend's house where the real party is supposed to be. We get there and the friend had no clue we were going to be there let alone having a party. No one else was there.
I spent an hour watching tv while my wife and her friend went to buy a birthday cake. Then we had cake and ice cream and just left around 9:00. On the way home I asked what the heck happened? That's when the wife admitted she didn't plan the thing.
Through friends we figured out that no one was told anything about a birthday party. The friends who were supposedly planning the whole thing apparently thought it was funny to foul things up then brag about it.
Woke up to my mom calling on my 38th birthday informing me my grandmother died. She had cancer and had been in hospice for a month, so it wasn’t a shock. The following year, I had planned to spend a day wandering downtown with a friend and not think about the previous year. He ended up hanging out with another friend the night before, stayed up too late and slept through the whole day. I was angry and a bit hurt. He realized he messed up and apologized, so we made up. I’m dreading what might happen for my 40th.
My ex (already ex at the time this happened, we stayed friends for a long time after we broke up) drank alcohol while on a high dose of antidepressants at my 18th birthday party, despite me reminding/begging him before it started not to do that for his own sake. I spent a good while of that party in the bathroom with his wasted ass, ready to call emergency services because he was yet to turn 18 at the time and if he got alcohol poisoning, it would have been my, or my mother's, problem. To add insult to injury he got chummy with one of my friends (also his ex from a really badly ended relationship) in front of everyone. Oh and then he used me for sex.
No matter how much my current partner reminds me that it was not, in fact, my responsibility to babysit him, and that it was extremely disrespectful of him to disregard my wishes, i will never not feel awful, disgusted, and angry remembering that party.
These are minor compared to those in the video and those in the comments, but here are mine:
-I came down with a bit of a cold/sniffle a couple of days after I turned 12.
-I either had a stomach bug or food poisoning right after I turned 13.
-My mom fell in the mall we went to on my 14th birthday (outside of my hometown). Thankfully, nothing was broken and she was able to recover within a few days/couple of weeks.
-I had an ingrown toenail removed a few days after my 15th birthday. It had been a lingering issue for nearly a full year. The saga was finally over.
-Ultimately, this didn't happen, but my dad initially wanted to go up to my soon to be college and get registered on my 18th birthday.
-The Obamacare ruling put a damper on my 20th birthday (occurred the day before). On my 20th birthday, not as many people wrote on my wall on Facebook compared to the last 2 birthdays and that was a bummer. Also, my mom wouldn't get me a particular shirt I wanted at Dillard's and would only get me a different one I wasn't interested in getting.
-My favorite college baseball team lost the College World Series the day before I turned 26 and I was still down some on my birthday. The team had a chance to win it in game 2 of the CWS finals, but we couldn't get the last out.
-On my 28th birthday (2020), I was hoping and praying my hometown didn't experience a mini Charlottesville (there was a fight over the Civil War statue in town; ultimately, it was decided a ballot issue would be put in place and the county voted whether to keep it or remove it in November). Ultimately, it was peaceful. However, the day after my birthday, my longtime next door neighbor passed away. She was 90 and had been in poor health for a couple of years after a couple of strokes.
-My 30th birthday was the first one without my dad (the first Father's Day without him was a week and a half earlier). He died almost 8 months prior. Two days after I turned 30, an uncle of mine lost his sister. I went to HS with her youngest daughter and she and her sister lost their mom a little over 4 yrs after losing their dad. She and my dad were two of 10 people I knew in some way that passed away in a 10 month span.
EDIT: 2 days before my 31st birthday last yr, one of the best ever QBs for my favorite college team passed away in a drowning incident in FL. The death came a little over 10 yrs after I met him.

Waking up early, as an 8yr old, excitedly waiting for my family to start getting up too. Waiting for a barrage of happy birthdays! . . . but not receiving a single 1. Starting to think, OH itll be a surprise later! Yay! So by around early evening, 5ishpm, i begin to lay hints and ask my whole family what today was. I got umm tuesday, why? or the actual date. My little brain finally clicked that nobody remembered it was my birthday. Not 1 of the 6 other members of my family. I broke down sobbing stating defeated that it was my bday. That was the 1st of my shit birthdays.
My childhood dog of 13 years passed away the day before I turned 16 and I wasn't with her when she died, through no fault of my own. We buried her the next day. I was so distraught I couldn't go to school. That was ten years ago and May 14th is still a rough day for me.
On my 16th birthday my house burnt down and was completely ruined. Totally ruined.
I was born on my grandparents anniversary which was on April 23rd 1999 and on April 8th before Easter Sunday 2023 my grandma passed away at the age of 71 she would've been 72 years old and on my grandparents anniversary they would've been married for 57 years they were married in 1966 so overall it's been a hard year so far for our family especially for holidays like Mother's day, Thanksgiving day, Christmas eve/day,and New Years eve even whenever we go on vacation it'll never be the same without her in our lives but we know where she's at and we'll see her again one day but until then R.I.P grandma R.I.P and to this day both my soon to be 80 year old grandpa and my mother still can't get over her passing and if y'all would've met her she was the sweetest woman that I ever have known so to anyone who sees this if you still have any family, friends, co worker's, colleagues, etc and vice-versa please spend time with them more cause you never know when today will be their last day on earth so anyways that's all I wanted to say so anyways peace ✌️ and sorry for my long comment so here have a 🥔
My 18th birthday, I had to take a calculus midterm. I came into class with balloons and my teacher said "what is it your birthday?" I said yes. He replied with "you don't look like it". Thanks Mr.Meyer.
I was born on mother's day...may9th....my mom had a running joke my whole life that when she saw me for the first time she looked around and asked"Is this all I get?" Haha right? Well exactly 33 years later on my 33rd birthday my mom died of cancer. I love my mom but I couldn't help but ask the same question and have a good cry. It's an inside joke I doubt anyone but my mom and myself would find funny..... never have had a happy birthday since

Then later after all that calmed down, I was on my way to meet my mom for ice cream, and one of my tires almost fell off on the highway. Spent the rest of the day replacing wheel studs with my mom
My birthday is right after Thanksgiving so ever since I turned 26, I can never ask for the day off from work because of Black Friday sales. If it falls on one of my days off, then I get to enjoy it by window shopping enjoying Christmas decorations.
The only bad one I can say I’ve had was my 23rd. My now ex-wife and I were on the outs but still not officially broken up. She was working at a sporting goods store and bought me a cap that she said I would like because it was an affiliate of my favorite MLB team, the Phillies. The cap was actually of a team affiliated with the Expos. I figured well at least she tried, though I found out after the fact from a mutual friend who was her co-worker that she’d asked another co-worker as she was leaving that day what to get and was given the misinformation.
That wasn’t the end of the world and I’m not much of a “thing” person anyway. I guess the worst part was when I went to the bathroom and she snuck out so she could go out with her boyfriend. I ended up ordering myself a pizza and getting drunk

Told this story before but I never celebrated my bday after 21 it's usually just me and my parents. I had just split with my wife but we were trying to work it out so I decided to try to do a big thing at 38 and go back to my home town and paid for everything. She brought me my wedding ring and said she was very excited. The trip ended with her punching me and leaving me on the side of the road because I was a manager at a restaurant and when they called with a question she said I was sleeping with one of them. Then she brought flowers to my work and left them in my car with a note saying sorry but you know it was really all your fault.
While I don't remember my worst birthday, I don't remember the last good one I had.
My 54th bday. Wife(now ex wife) grabbed the kids early before I got home from work and took them on a 2 day vacation. Claims she forgot it was my bday. Only thing bs about that was my daughter kept asking her when daddy was coming so they could have a cake for me. I did have peace and quiet, but would rather have had someone around to celebrate it with
Had to cut my 27th bday plans short cause my family wanted me to look after the dogs as my sister and bil went on a weekend away and my parents went out for dinner. So as my actual bday was on a sunday that weekend i thought if my family came home early enough i could still do something, well 2pm they turn up and if you live in the uk shops close at 4pm and seeing as the closest town was 20+ minutes away. In the end didnt bother doing anything as there wasnt a point anymore.
my birthday is july 31st so i’m a summer baby. lots of people are on vacation at this time. when i turned 8 i wanted to have a party so i invited all my friends and a bunch of kids from my class. every single one of them was on vacation except my best friend. thanks caitlin! When I found out me and one of my good friends shared a b day nothing against him he’s a great guy but when I saw 15+ of our mutual friends wishing him happy b day on there story’s and no one mentioned me once :/
Toss up between my 21st birthday when I’d moved back home to take care of my half because the only job that would pay enough to afford rent was as a long haul truck driver (majority of the 48 states minus the northeastern ones). I’d gotten used to being alone but my brother hadn’t and he was crying because he missed her. There was nothing I could do to comfort him.
The other is my 24th when I was at work and stung by a very aggressive honeybee right above my right eyelid but below my eyebrow. I’m not allergic but it hurt more than any other bee which I’d had many times before. Plus it got swollen so I couldn’t go out.
Every Birthday was terrible for me, worst my 8th. I was sent off to my Uncle, alone in a Country i never was before.
It was the Start of my lifelong Trauma for what he did to me, and everyone in my Family knew but pretended it didnt happen.

It happened two years ago, my mom spent the whole day at the hospital because my uncle was dying of cancer, he died 3 days later, and my 17 years old cat died 2 days after that.
My worst birthday was my 30th birthday. My twin brothers sister in law left a voice-mail on the answering machine a few days before to tell my mom about the surprise birthday party they were holding for my brother and that maybe I should come. Basically got invited to a surprise birthday party for my twin brother.
10 of my cats died the day before my 14th birthday. So I spent my actual birthday burying them. (My mom was a hoarder, we never found out what they had but it was probably a result of the shitty living situation due to my mom's addiction.)
I dont do birthdays. On my 5th my sister lied that i took money from her. My mom said im grounded made me pay her back and had me call everyone sobbing that my borthday party was canceled. My dad then forced me to pay her back and so did one of my uncles. This would of also been the last day i would have seen my grandpa alive for him being the strong hard headed sob he was fought it like hell for 20 years at the time and was down to a fith of lung left total. The rest was cancer rotted and was cut out but he would drop everything just to give the time of day even if chew the fat. When we were having dinner that night my sister sliped up and my parents found they both forced me to pay and so did my uncle so eventually she got triple and she still had what she said i stole. They offered to take me a friend to go see a movie that night. I refused cause my hearts desier was to make a model train table with my grandpa. Hes the reason why i love steam locos model trains and wood working. Thats when we got the phone call of grampa is in the hospital and wasnt going to make it. Course i wasnt allowed to go this was at 8 pm and they said he had moments to live. He fought to 1201 am so he would die the next day and not on my birth day. And no i never got my money back. This is why i havent celebrated my birthday. When some one asks why its what i stated above. If they throw me a suprise birthday i do an about face forward march in one fluid motion
At 40. I had started over again and met some new friends. They threw me a big party and invited people i didn't know, but they thought I would get along with. It was the only time anyone had done that for me. It's the worst because i realized just how isolated and alone i was my entire life. Never had a birthday party as a kid and never celebrated as i got older. That was all i could focus on that entire night. Didn't enjoy the party very much.
On my 18th birthday all I asked for was a pizza for dinner and my mom told me we didn't have the money for it. I get that but then she proceeded to spend 145$ on dollar store makeup and trinkets and also informed me that she was moving out of state to marry her boyfriend of 3 months and said i could stay in state with my friends and family (who did nothing but shit on me growing up) and be homeless or I could join them. I chose homelessness and all things considered turned out much better than I would have with her as she was sent back by him 2 years later and had to live with me until she found a place.
My family never celebrated birthdays, at least not my birthday, so on my 17th birthday, I ended up going to a surprise birthday party given by my friend for somebody else, whose birthday was actually 3 days later.
Getting sick on birthdays sucks
My most recent. I’m a 4th of July baby (shut up). I rarely get remembered. I just married my husband after 10 years together. He was in the hospital since April this year. We knew he was very ill. May 6th we said I do. The 4th rolls around and he’s no longer responsive. I went home alone. He died on the 5th. So there’s that.
I got sick and had to postpone my first outing with an at-the-time new provider (long story as to what that is and not easy for me to explain), the next day, my mom and I went to the doctor and got tested for strep throat and Covid, but they all came back negative/undetected so there is that🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
My 13th birthday. A month before my birthday, I created a social media account to stay in touch with my only school friend because she was moving away. My parents found out and cancelled my birthday party and gave me 0 presents for my birthday.

My 19th birthday. My family caught COVID, so the party was cancelled. I reamed out the person who I thought spread it to them and ended up hurting their feelings. I very quickly realized that that was a really shitty thing to do and apologized. Luckily they understood how I felt and forgave me.
I wasn’t allowed to have a ninth birthday because I had bad grades. Not a party, a birthday as in; not allowed to say I’m nine or acknowledge it whats so ever.

I guess for me it was when my mom was in the hospital (this was before I learned how she really was ) my aunt switched me with a whip & my cousin pulled my ear hard because she didn’t like my response to her smart Ass comment , I do not respect either now because of that
