I made my own version inspired by your work. It works! It plays! It was so much fun to make! It's not nearly as well crafted as yours, but it works! Thank you for making these videos! They have been a great source of motivation.
I'm a beginning woodworker and found this book th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ gives useful advice on different types of tools & their usage, types of bits, safety etc. So when i do start to buy tools and bits, i basically know what to look for, how to use them & the types of woods certain bits are recommended to use on.
Favourite bits - gluing the linings in; carving the tiny top-brace; the clamping caul with a simple (wouldn't just drilling a hole of the same diameter work too); and of course playing it at the end. I love that modal sound! Thanks again mate!
With that much work crafting the neck and body, I would have used a larger coconut and put at least 3 or 4 strings, but it had a fun sitar sound to it, especially playing that Middle Eastern scale.
@@lnkkkkkkkkkk You are the ignorant one, he is right. Often indians use Middle Eastern scales(HMM...WONDER WHY). The song he was playing was from the start of a song by Markos Vamvakaris, a Greek. It is neither Middle eastern nor indian, it is Greek.(tuned similar to baglamadaki)
as always, that was awesome. I find your instrument build amazing. - A coconut and a length of wood = 2 string Bouzouki, Brilliant. Thank you very much for sharing. Cheers
In south India it is called coconut shell violin and yiu can see street vendor selling it. It can play movie songs and it comes with a bow.The great violin maestro Kunnakkudi Vaidyanathan sometimes played this violin in his concerts just for fun.In his hands this violin can play like a real violin. Such was his talent.
This is probably as close to an April Fool's Day video as we'll get on this channel and it's still a very functional, cool looking, interesting instrument. I love cool builds like this.
Thats because it is....its called iktara(single string) or dotara (2strings) , pumpkins and coconuts have been used in indian instrumentns since ancient times
That was just wonderful! I really enjoyed watching in so many different ways, I always get a big kick out of your vids mate, my favourite TH-cam channel without doubt. Thanks for sharing mate. I'm off to watch it again!

I love it! When ever you demonstrate one of your instruments you always play a little Blues or a little Rebetika.
Lol. True. That's where I belong

Beautiful craftsmanship. It is a pleasure to watch this man work at a 100 miles an hr. 👍
And that is why instruments are so expensive .. beautiful work
Yes but aren't most instruments just mass produced nowadays. Ones made by artisans and craftsman are an acception though.
You're awesome, I just love these videos. Keep making awesomely weird instruments :)
thank you very much
@@ScrapwoodCity what song was it that you played called? Thanks love your passion

Walked into bar?

I never knew that this would take a lot of hard work and effort to make and especially a lot of patience and time.
I’d like to see this played with a bow. I’m working on my own designs for a sort of cigar box erhu with frets.
Nice
