    After mentioning micarta being the Lasagne of craftwork, I'd LOVE to see a Lasagne themed micarta project. Dark red coloured card layered with yellow and cream coloured card in the classic Lasagne pattern.

    • @obtuse186
      @obtuse186 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe each 'layer' could be multiple different colours. Various reds with brown and maybe even dark greens to simulate meat sauce.
      Yellow with lighter and darker shades for the pasta layer

    Glad you're over the initial being creeped out by the material. When you mentioned putting it under a blacklight, I had the thought about how Scorpions fluoresce also and would be interesting to see, but maybe that would also have the same creep factor.

    Just watching you use that square silicone mold set for the micarta has me thinking....a see through snake skin box. 😱 You could put things inside it & it would be like looking inside a snakes belly. That'd be a helluva candy dish.

    I have always assumed making rings would be difficult, giving their tiny size and required attention to detail. You made it look tons easier than I dreamt it could possibly be. I have watched you making things without the metal cores, and well .... Looks hard. But with the ring cores, it takes away a lot of the guessing of sizes, and half the sanding. I may just have to give these a try. Thank you for sharing.

    I have to admit, i was a bit nervous about the finished product while you were turning the snakeskin ring, but it looks fantastic once it's finished. The micarta looks really complex and interesting, and I think it made for a very attractive ring!

  • @dominginiify
    @dominginiify 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

    I wonder how the snakeskin ring would look with the micarta stacked the other way so the scale pattern would be on the outside rather than the scale edges showing! But they both looked very cool!

    • @steelplatedheart
      @steelplatedheart 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @fishsticks2965
      @fishsticks2965 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I feel like the result would probably look really similar, the ring is so delicate you might not be able to see the scale pattern too much even if it was facing the surface, plus they are stacked and transparent

    • @joelbaker9366
      @joelbaker9366 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stacking (glueing) them around a cylender would work, but would entail more work to do, and more of a mess. It would give an outward facing pattern, even if it wasn't clear due to the layers.

    Also, making rings looks SO MUCH EASIER with ring kit. I've always wanted to make rings but thought the whole melting metal/shaping thing would be about impossible or at the very least incredibly difficult to learn. As someone else said, the ring kit removes all the sizing guesswork, and the way you did it seems like way easier. Will be giving this a try!
