There are actually no diminishing returns if we calculate effective HP provided by each next opal. For example if we have 1000 HP, 100 armor provides 1000 HP, 200 armor provides 2000 HP. Armor effectively stacks linearly. People make this math mistake in every game with armor.
@@NexGenration99 good question, this isn't a bug, blood pillars take 2.5% of your max health every tick, which is the exact threshold required to take perma damage; a singular Replusion armor, or Bucker provides enough defense to negate perma damage

It's no accident as to why this was labeled "The Ultimate Guide". Despite it being nearly fifty minutes long, it felt like only a few minutes had passed by the time I was done watching and I was left wanting more. Who knew guides could be so informative, yet so entertaining? Thank you Disputed for releasing this gem of a video.
Hi Race! Can you say Happy Birthday to my friend Ethan? He watches your stream all the time... Even got featured with one of his comments in your videos a couple of times. He thinks you're the best player!
I'm happy the community is finally getting a good resource for learning about eclipse with all the intricacies we've learned throughout the years. Good work on this one Grandpa
THIS WAS SO HELPFUL THANK YOU! I got 450 hours into this game and completed eclipse 1 and 2 on rex (my favorite character) and A LOT of the information in this video I somehow never knew about. I had always assumed the enemies stopped spawning during teleporter event only after the boss was kill and the teleporter was charged, but just focusing on the teleporter to stop enemy spawns would have saved me many failed runs. Also I am one of the many people who assumed that going through stages faster would be more beneficial, like 3-4 minutes per stage was usually my goal. Seems pretty obvious now that I think about it, just collect more items, duh. Thanks again Gramps, I never had a grandfather but if I did I would hope for someone like you.
applying these gameplay tips took me from not getting to mithrix 99% of the time to 3 Eclipse 1 wins in the past few days (It was Bandit, Railgunner, and Acrid, but still). Best ROR2 guide I've ever seen. also, the "full loot efficiently" strat is SOOO good conpared to getting like a focus crystal and a slug and then fighting the boss at 3 minutes in
I have started my eclipse climb recently, and I cannot express just how much this and watching race's videos have helped me out. Learning and applying these things really does work.
Super appreciate all the hard work you put into this, and as someone with a considerable number of hours in the game I can say I still learned (or at least was reminded of) some pretty big things! Keep up the good content
Thank you so much for making this video Disputed, it really motivated me to try doing eclipse on every character! Just got the golden four and im having a blast, really looking forward to the higher eclipse levels.
This was such a helpful guide. I’ve been playing risk of rain 2 for years, and despite while this is a year old, the information is still incredibly relevant (despite some of the new dlc/patch messes that are currently being fixed by the team). Learned some things I somehow hadn’t known yet in regard to certain eclipse mechanics, and gotta love the Race featured section, great video man!!
Absolutely killed it, everything from the actual info given, to the production value, to how clearly and concisely all of it was delivered, is spectacular. You knocked it out of the park with this one!
Great video! Your reasoning was well-substantiated and is something I would’ve loved to have seen 500 hours of RoR2 ago. Also great choices in music throughout the video. Absolute bangers.
THIS VIDEO IS INSANE AND ITS SUCH A COINCIDENCE I HAVE JUST STARTED GETTING INTO ECLIPSE RUNS! THANKS FOR THE AMAZING VIDEO I FEEL LIKE A PRO JUST FROM WATCHING IT. YOURE THE COOLEST
Truly the bible of RoR2 🙏🙏🙏🙏 On this note, I also *highly* recommend watching Races' streams/videos: it's very pleasant how he incorporates many tips 'n tricks in his gameplay. Now I'm much more familiar with the game and it's rare that I discover new stuff, but man, the first Races videos were a literal GOLD MINE of small tricks: one time he shows how to kickflip pots over an edge with a quail, one time he explains the Captain fast shot tech, one time he explains the problem with Rallypoint Delta and the TC-280, one time he explains the Alloy unit skip, one time he shows the Merc momentum tech to instakill flying bosses... I literally learned something new every video for a long while. You're truly doing God's work, and this amazing piece of content is probably worth about 15h of Races gameplay. But while your content is sharp, clear, concise and direct, sometimes i's cool to see the most diverse techs/curiosities effortlessly diluted into a run.
Wow. What a fantastic summary, with combat clips that match too. Pretty much matches my experiences on Eclipse, and I think the principles here apply to anyone still learning Monsoon. Definitely earned my sub.
I'm just starting my Eclipse climb, and this was perfectly timed!! I couldn't agree more with almost all of the points you guys made. Thank you for making this; keep up the great work!
Started playing risk of rain about a week ago and started my eclipse run with 2 other friends and HOLY SHIT it is hard, your videos' have been pretty helpful so far glad you're still making content on the game!
I started playing this game about a week ago and I honestly love it. The only other rougelikes that I've played are Dead Cells and Hades (but also around an hour of Gungeon and Isaac). I haven't watched many RoR2 videos but you are definitely my favorite CC for this game, nice editing and very entertaining. Also, I'm so glad that you encourage looting like that since one of my friends, that started playing at the same time as me, after a few days started rushing levels and saying it's bad to spend more than 5 mins on a level. To bad for him I was (mostly) right.
22:06 no ima make a point for scythes, get one for 5% crit. Usually more than one sucks but one for a pinch more damage is usually worth it. Unless you get literally anything else that increases damage. Literally ANYTHING else.
just now I finally finished my eclipse climb. Thank you for encouraging me to try it, it forced me to use characters that I barely played with before, and it truly unlocked all the fun that can be had in the game
Gotta say, this is one of the enjoyable guides I've ever seen, especially with the way it's approached. You're not jamming one route onto people, and I respect that. I think the only two lunars I really ever touch on anything eclipse is hellfire and rarely effigy. Ranged hitters benefit well if you can't find any equip that works into your build, and if you're like me where luck destroys pots half the time, then it at least helps as a second option. Plus, if you end up on sanc you at least have a good chance in a pearl. Hellfire is just really fun and is probably the only lunar I'd say doesn't follow the normal lunars=win formula imo. Otherwise, minus preferred strats or loadouts (I enjoy blight much more than poison for Acrid, regardless of the situation since I tend to play with a friend who runs poison, so having a way to kill through poison with as many dots as possible just gels well. Plus hybridcrid got through most of the game for me already, I just gotta learn to respect e8's modifier effect and be wary of the others.) Thank you for the info and helpful tips and info, nonetheless!
Though I'm not that experienced with RoR2 yet, the things you say about lunar items and their impact on Eclipse playstyle rings pretty true for roguelike games in general. In most games with these progressive modifiers, there will always be some strategy that you can get X% of the time that'll trivialize the difficulty but by actually learning how to deal with the modifiers you'll end up more consistent victories.
This is where the RNG of rougelikes comes in, there's a reason most people say not to use artifact of command for improving, if you can make all runs god runs even eclipse 8 becomes trivial, but having to rely on RNG means that you have to be good enough at the game where you can be decently successful without items at all
I think the Lunar Item problem wouldn't be so much of a problem if people didn't just cheat in infinite Lunar Coins. If you're just passively gaining the coins throughout your runs, you either don't have enough coins to make it through all Eclipse levels on all survivors, or if you do you've been playing for long enough that you're probably able to beat Eclipse pretty consistently anyways.
I've begun my eclipse climb with Mercenary, and it's given me an entirely new appreciation for the previously underrated items. PSG, Ghor's Tome, Roll of Pennies, Chronobauble and HEAD-ST feels like a weight being taken off my back with how they work to counter the debuffs the mode gives.
14:51 as someone who semi-recently learned pot rolling, I absolutely agree with this. I can point to like 5 or 6 runs I absolutely lost because I spent way too long making my face very familiar with some clay, but the long term benefit was well worth it. Also if anyone is looking for a quick tip on pot rolling, instead of running at the center of the pot try running at the edges of the pot for way more momentum
this is easily the best most informative risk of rain 2 video ive ever watched. i learned something every second and i never got bored the whole almost hour i was watching this will help me for the rest of my time playing thank you
I am very impressed by the quality of this video. The information is extremely useful and put together really succinctly, edited well so it's easy to understand, and touches on all the important topics for Eclipse. Wonderful video your effort absolutely did not go unnoticed.
awesome tutorial and actually motivated me to attempt the challenge especially since im 75% a one trick huntress since her shift is so good looking forward to finishing them while wanting to snap my keyboard 💜
Getting tons of pearls with Egocentrism or Eulogy Zero can be pretty solid because Irradiant Pearls are absolutely bonkers strong, and the piles of regular Pearls still meaningfully contribute in E8 because all that extra HP means permadamage is much easier to avoid, and they can serve as food for a solid yellow printer like Disciple, Spleen, either of the Perfs, Empathy Cores, Urn, or even Queen's Gland (10 beetle guards would be so useful). Also, if you can get an ATG or other strong proc item + some speed and prevent Ego from devouring them by filling your build with fluff, Ego can devastate with 380% damage, extremely rapidly hitting bombs with a 1.0 proc coefficient each. one Corpsebloom is literally useless in e5 and up though, because it's healing gets halved twice, negating the double healing.
7:02 this is part of the reason i love loader so much, because if you grapple on a boss the right way, you will spin sround them really fast and they genuinely cant hit you. It even works with mythrix (sometimes) its hilarious
You should do a video on effigy of greif, and why it's extremely underrated. Item has a shit ton of synergy. Rex has a built in slow, so you can basically slow bosses to a crawl when you use it on Rex. Captains Diablo becomes a lot more practical if you trap the boss inside the slow field. You can make a "net" of slows in the mithrix fight and strafe him into it to make the boss laughably easy. Super versatile and underrated
bro you choose the background music from the best fucking games. Always bangers in the background. And from "Night in the woods" of all games. Damn good choices.
If you can't mithrix last stage skip, and you don't have a great equipment (or your equipment can be used before last stage mithrix to full effect) DO NOT scrap warhorn. Use the warhorn just before mithrix takes it and start the last stage with +80% attack speed to get some items back quick.
How to combat the “I died so I’m putting the game down” mindset. Whenever you ragequit RoR2, try an Enter the Gungeon run, really helps you understand how to learn from mistakes.
Had a hard time figuring out the items, this helps greatly. Instead of tying to hoard every item I come across I'll try to focus on builds or getting what I need.
