Andrew! I also have a heart condition. Aortic Valve Stenosis. I’m missing a heart valve. You are an inspiration. I do hiking and some backpacking. But constantly have to be checking my heart man. I’m taking my 13 year old boy on his first backpacking trip. So excited and somewhat nervous. 😆. Living LIFE despite my condition. We can’t let fear hold us back! Keep walking till we can’t no more.
VERY well done 7X Whitney veteran here. First climbed it in ‘71. Now, I AM 71 ! (Sucks) But it was a pleasure to watch you young bucks grunt up the peak (not the least because of near-professional grade cinematography)
I love it when at 56:30 he talks about life challenges in a form of a mountain, or lose of a job or breakup; I have had those challenges; could not summit Whitney, still wants to do it after since past December I got injured at work, lost my dad, lost my job, then my mother in that order..there are always challenges; only good thing about then is they make you better and stronger. I think if I get to the next time at Whitney I will get up there and probably will remember this!
I summited that mountain all the way back in 1986. It was a beast then, and I am sure it is a beast now. But your video was excellent. I have hiked 4 places that you guys went to. So, I enjoy watching all your adventures.
This video deserves more than a million views. I can watch it again and again. My favorite of all your videos. Great commentaries, very informative, and you’ve shot the views and landscapes pretty nicely. Great job and thanks for sharing!
It took ages, millions of years of a very chaotic and slow process, continents and tectonic plates collided, to push massive portions of land up towards the sky. When you climb a mountain, you're paying tribute, not only to your health, but also, to those millions and millions of years of unfathomable transformation. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!
"We wanted to cut down on weight" *brings a full jar of peanut butter* I love you guys! I'm always amazed by how high quality your videos are with only 44k subscribers. I definitely want to go check out Mount Whitney for myself now.
Summited Whitney on 10/04/2021. This video inspired me to do it. Andrew telling about his congenital heart disease was really touching. All the best you guys!! You rock.
I love Robby with his fuller (2021) hair, the Lin Brothers with their ponytails, and Thomas' scrubby beard look. LOL, Andrew's wag bagging sounded safer than Robby's style. Love you guys!
Andrew is my new hero ! I cried like a baby when he was thanking his parents at the end and talking about his heart condition and how its challenged him in life yet with his parents love and encouragement hes beat all of the challenges life has brought his way and then some . It's a beautiful testimony,,,,,I love all the guys ( and girls) from adventure archives,,,but this particular episode really touched my heart and soul .......peace n love from Arizona!
Such a great video, favorite part is when Andrew thanked this parents for caring and loving him. You all are the best. I normally don't watch you tube video that are 1 hour long but your video is worth watching.
I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to you guys for inspiring me and my husband to make hiking Whitney our 2019 goal. We just achieved it this weekend, August 23rd and got to the summit at dawn for an amazing sunrise. No AMS and beautiful weather. Thanks for sharing your passion for hiking and showing your viewers all of the beautiful places to go explore!
A wonderful experience to see you all complete your challenge! Thank you Andrew for sharing a part of your life. I am happy you are able to be your best physical self due to the care of your parents for your heart condition.
@@AdventureArchives As someone who's climbed more than 1,000 mountain ascents (while aging rapidly now )-: ), to me it seemed you underestimated the value of the summit -- the achievement and the experience. Because you don't fully appreciate that experience until some time passes. I look at the 10,000s of mountain photos and can't help recall how special each of those experiences were ... the people I was with, the way the sky, the forest, the horizon and views, memories of wonderful experiences and relationships long gone now ... all of that are truly unforgettable. Your carefully made video says that perfectly ... while preserving an innocence of the feeling of being relatively new mountain hikers. So again ... nice work. Can't wait to watch more of your work!
I feel uplifted and inspired when I watch your videos. There is a genuine joy and camaraderie you have that is rarely seen in the busy world we live in. And Andrew, it is very cool of you to share your story of your heart condition and your appreciation of your parents at the peak!
i'm the 30% disabled from birth guy who was lucky for UCLA friends who helped him into the low Sierras in the early 1960s. 1 or 2 of them "summited" Whitney including one guy who my bride of 46 years called my brother from another mother. He's still around at age 84 and even a better human being for being a UCLA and JPL physics guy on the Galileo/Jupiter mission. Whitney left it's mark on Bob M. - who's still way too modest ever to admit that he partly "saved the entire mission" after the main photo antenna froze midway in space. He solved the problem and 35-years later, no one's the wiser :) I like to think that too was Mt. Whitney's gift to everyone in humility. Your videos speak for themselves. Thanks so much! Best,
This. This is what Yosemite was like years ago, just with less people. I grew up camping in Yosemite every year. There were always a lot of people, but you still felt the majesty of everything around you. In the face of all that was there, you feel so insignificant, as if nothing matters anymore. I hadn't been to Yosemite for years, but I remembered your Yosemite video. I finally went back after over a decade and my heart was broken. It wasn't the same Yosemite. It was so crowded, filled with traffic, almost commercialized. I understood what you meant about it being like an amusement park. I no longer felt the same connection to the power of nature I once felt. But seeing this video, seeing mt. Whitney, when you pulled up to the meadow and just looked at the almost photoshopped looking backdrop, I felt that same inspiration, even through a video screen. I just want to thank you guys for sharing your experiences and allowing those of us who can't embark on these journeys to experience them vicariously through you.
Yosemite National Park is still majestic even today. You just have to hike past all the typical tourist trails and you will be fine. We prefer Sequoia National Park as well as Kings Canyon National Park, less people there and just as grand. Have fun on the trails. --JY
"The mountain left its mark on us" So true ! Thank you Andrew ! Congratulations on defying the odds. Great trip and great documentary. The movie editor did an awesome job.
Wow that was an awesome video! Thank you for sharing your experiences! Climbing Mt. Whitney is just a dream for me! So thanks again for letting me see the mountain through your eyes!
It seems like forever since I've seen you guys together on amazing adventures. I was bursting with comments throughout but now I'm just speachless. Amazing and inspiring work on the video guys. 100 thumbs up! Also thanks for not letting this video be interrupted by ads.
I have watched several hours of your videos... and have enjoyed very much... My son has similar heart condition and this is first time I have heard you mention this even thought I have seen the scare in previous videos... I am just in awe in what you have been able to accomplish. He is very active in scuba divining now.. I remember when he had to get and ok to go and the doctors said well. we have never had someone with a valve replacement request that before. They gave him the ok to go and it has been very rewarding to see him to be able to do what he loves to do.... Just like your videos.. It is amazing what medical science can do. I have enjoyed your videos and hope you can continue to do what you love to do also.
Wow! Just wow! Seeing you push through your fears was nail biting! And Robby pushing through with that headache! Wow! And Andrew opening up about his illness! Wow! And Brian sitting on the sofa! Wow!
Really enjoyed, guys. Thanks. Hiked it with one other friend in 1976. Spent the night in the Smithsonian shelter, woke up at 2AM w/altitude headache and headed down in the moonlight. We were wildland fire fighters acclimating and working at 7000 elev on the El Dorado NF (Iron Mtn. Rd). Loved seeing "sky pilot" (the purple flower) again. Loves growing around 11,000 ft. Thanks again.
This Mount Whitney video ranks as one of my favorite AA videos. It seemed like a never ending hike up to the summit. The views area amazing and the mountain snow made this video even better. Excellent job again with the video quality and editing. Next time Bryan!! It's not easy, but well worth it making it to a high summit. The ending was hilarious! 😂 Great Video!!👍👍
Andrew I am so glad u r doing well. Your parents must be proud of you. Your compassion and respect for life and nature is admirable. I wish you continued health and a long healthy life. Thank you and your team for sharing your adventures with us❤
I have 5 older brothers so of course my dad was the scout master. The first year we camped at Whitney portals my dad just looked at the mountain. The next year dad and my uncle climbed it. 2 days up and 1 down. The year after that , dad and uncle Bruce each brought their boy scout troops. The first picture we have from the summit is dad and the two oldest boys. Then the younger of that pair with the next brother. And so on skipping me and the last with my younger brother. Dads grin got bigger each year. I never got to climb Whitney with my dad. I did help scatter his ashes from mt Coness.
This is by far the best video that I have seen of the climb to Mt. Whitney from Whitney Portal. I myself have been to the summit, but I hiked to the top from the west side while hiking the PCT way back in 2011. The mountains in the west are epic, but my heart is and always will be with the Whites of New Hampshire, my backyard playground back in earlier times. Kudos to all of you for making it to the top. 👍
Thank you for the beautiful video, you show the trail in such detail, the pacing is perfect. I liked the quietness, and the gentle music. I'm not sure I would be brave enough, so thank you for taking me there!
You guys really took it to another level with this adventure, both the physical climb and this awesome video. Kudos to all of you and thanks for the ride.
Great, great video. My favorite so far! Andrew, I will share this with my 16 year old daughter who has a congenital heart defect so she can see what can be accomplished!!
Excellent professional photography, wonderful matching music, very balanced thoughts, visable friendship, sensible senses - very well done! Off we go to the cinemas!
Oh boy at 12:15 when he says lets make it to mile one, reminds me my ascend to just Outpost camp took me around 7 hours; GPS registered I had hiked 7 miles but Outpost camp is only 3.8 miles away from Portal; I could never understand the difference in readings; my ascend was slow as I stopped every 20-50 paces to catch my breath because I am out of shape; averaging 1 mile every 2 hours that is insanely slow! then used to stop more times too for video and pictures; I was really taking my time in no rush to get there but when I finally did and found out I had expended 7 hours to cover 3.8 miles I was really amazed! I saw people going really fast and heavy loaded and was wondering how could they; I was definetely the slower climber that day; even an elderly woman passed me on the way up! but then again the experience and the fun of it it is worth it. This video brings up my itch to go do it again; this time I will plan better to be able to summit!
On 10/23/2019 I Day hiked Mt. Whitney via Mountaineers Route unprepared with no training and no acclimation. I did summit but this mountain broke me down piece by piece in every way possible. It humbled me down and made me appreciate life even more. Whtney is no joke.
Wow, that's quite an accomplishment! Yeah, we were very prepared ahead of time (or at least I was) after how strenuous the Japan hike was. It's definitely no joke, especially towards the top, but definitely gives you that much needed perspective :) Thanks for watching!
Wow!!!!!! by far your best video!!! I was so moved by this. Andrew had me in tears with the story of his childhood. Great job you guys glad you made it back safe. What a simply gorgeous view of RAW EARTH... The mountains are calling and I must go ~ John Muir you walked in his very steps so Epic!!! Nice to see you eating vegan jerky to 😉
I love your knowledge of the plants and animals. The video is super clear and great background music. I'm only about 1/8th of the way through. I lived in Ca for 40 years and love the area!
Your episodes make us lazy! New era has come - we don't need to go to mountains but experience the hike on the screen 😎 can't move from the sofa now 😁 but welsh mountains are calling, feel extra motivation now 😁 thanks guys 👊
l have been following your progress for years....great friends great adventures great videos... thank you for taking us all along for the ride..BC Canada
This was incredible to watch . The brotherhood on the mountain 🏔 and family care to all on the trail is heart warming. I teared up and was joyful for your achievement. Dedication and Pride !
I made this climb with my dad when I was a teenager around 40 years ago. It's amazing how much I remember and how much looks exactly the same. I remember going across those snow banks and they were scary. I also remember once we got past the pass how the altitude started making me sick and there were some scary parts up towards that summit. You guys did some great video and thanks for sharing. My dad is 84 years old and he told me that when he passes away he wants half his ashes on Whitney and the other have in the Pacific Ocean. The old guy is probably going to out live me but if he does not by some miracle there is no way I could get up Whitney.
That’s awesome, so glad we could help you reminisce! Thanks a bunch for watching. I’m sure someone would climb up there bring the ashes. There was actually one dude who was an ultra marathon runner who literally was just running up and down in nothing but shorts and shoes!
I still don't understand how you guys only have 60,000 subs! This should be up there with guys like Jo Robinet, My Self Reliance and TA outdoors. Great stuff guys. Love your videos.
Great video as usual guys! I've been up Whitney 3 times and this is some of the best footage that shows how awesome it is. I try but my videos pale in comparison. So the pooping thing is something you get used to. Robby has the right idea but NEVER in the tent! No wonder no one will sleep with you in your tent. I get naked from the waist down to prevent any accidents. I was well off trail once and hadn't seen anyone for a couple days when I was half naked leaned up against the perfect rock over my hole. Sure enough at the exact wrong time 3 hikers cruise by 20 feet from me. We waved to each other and not a word was spoken. That is good hiker etiquette!
Dudes! I've watched and enjoyed every adventure you've been on to date, and this one definitely takes the cake. Awesome job! Your videos truly inspire and serve as a great reminder of the raw beauty this planet has to offer. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.
Very well professionally organized video. I guess you guys spend a lot of time to prepare and taking shots for video. It's not easy. Thanks for sharing. I went there it was beautiful but not really easy to climb because I had to hurry up. I couldn't enjoy the surrounding because I had to go to work the very next day. But now I'm enjoying your beautiful video with my memories. Thanks again showing it.
I teared up when Andrew was speaking about his heart condition and his parents love and dedication...so sweet and kind!
Agreed! Bravo Men! I loved this video!
What heart condition does he have? My son has one too
I'm a retired Cardiologist and was just curious what congenital abnormality he had taken care of?
Me too! That was special! Thank you Andrew's Mom and Dad, nice boy you raised up there!
Yes, me too, just now
It is amazing enough to have climbed that mountain, but to have filmed it is outrageous. Unbelievable.
Keep walking till we can’t no more.
great job capturing how grueling that last 1.9 miles to the top is. So close, yet so far
VERY well done 7X Whitney veteran here. First climbed it in ‘71. Now, I AM 71 ! (Sucks) But it was a pleasure to watch you young bucks grunt up the peak (not the least because of near-professional grade cinematography)

Summited Whitney on 10/04/2021. This video inspired me to do it. Andrew telling about his congenital heart disease was really touching. All the best you guys!! You rock.
Wow. What a great movie. This should be on Netflix!
I love Robby with his fuller (2021) hair, the Lin Brothers with their ponytails, and Thomas' scrubby beard look. LOL, Andrew's wag bagging sounded safer than Robby's style. Love you guys!
The poignant poetic narration complements the beautiful videography....man I cannot get enough....
Ok, I have to re-watch this episode every few weeks. The storytelling is amazing and the music is perfectly framing and supporting the whole thing!
Amazing journey. Imso happy for the 3 of youthat you made it to the top.
You all set a goal, worked to achieve it and did! That’s the accomplishment!

I'm not exagerating when I say Adventure Archives is one of my favorite shows. Well done guys.
Is there anything better than a starscape time-lapse?! Beautiful.
Probably not! Haha, thanks for watching-Thomas
A wonderful experience to see you all complete your challenge! Thank you Andrew for sharing a part of your life. I am happy you are able to be your best physical self due to the care of your parents for your heart condition.
Definitely a different approach to the standard mountain hike video ... kind of where video meets zen poetry. I liked it.
Thank you so much! I love that description, it's very flattering :) Glad you enjoyed the video, and thank you for watching!

Enjoy, watch, relax and learn.
I've done Mt Whitney twice as a day hike .. hopefully, this year, I can take it slow and do it over 3 days' time.. ..u guys r awesome !! And funny❤
The camaraderie between the three of you is exemplary. I also enjoyed Andrew explaining about the flora and the medicinal value of the plants.

this is the most amazing whitney video EVER. WOW

Where have you guys been all my life!!! We"ll done! You guys are an inspiration. Love the music too!
Good job guys
I must say that you have one of the finest, beautiful and informative movies for backpackers. Your knoledge is top.
Thanks for coming along! Hopefully we can head up to BC Canada ourselves sometime! -Thomas
Thanks for sharing this outstanding video.... especially for those of us who will never experience this adventure!
This was incredible to watch . The brotherhood on the mountain 🏔 and family care to all on the trail is heart warming. I teared up and was joyful for your achievement. Dedication and Pride !
Thank you all for the beautiful journey. Fantastic video
Just finished Mt Whitney, and just loved your video ! The wag bag story at the end is epic. Never thought of "wagging" in my tent, brilliant idea !
I still don't understand how you guys only have 60,000 subs! This should be up there with guys like Jo Robinet, My Self Reliance and TA outdoors. Great stuff guys. Love your videos.
Wauw... Awesome guys! Im speechless... What a beautiful trip!
Greetings from The Netherlands. 🇳🇱
You guys make some of the best hiking videos on TH-cam. Thank you!
Fantastic. Just... Fantastic. Wow. So good.
Hahaha, that's exactly what some PCTers told him not to do too! Thanks for your kind words! Please spread the word! -Thomas
"That's higher then a grateful dead fan on April 20th" haha that made my day! Love all of your videos, thank you for inspiring me to get out there!
This and your Yosemite episodes are some of my favorites, love following your guys’ adventures
Dudes! I've watched and enjoyed every adventure you've been on to date, and this one definitely takes the cake. Awesome job! Your videos truly inspire and serve as a great reminder of the raw beauty this planet has to offer. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.
Wow! Inspiring. Thank you, guys, for taking us along. WOW The ending key stroke got me choked up.
I m watching using my 48' hd tv. Thank you very very much. 👍👍👍💪
Very well done gentlemen. Great soundtrack.
