It starts out... the music. That single note on the piano. And that voice. My GOD that voice... from another time. And then the rest of the instruments. And at first you think "okay, this is an interesting rendition" and lift a single eyebrow as it continues. Intriguing. By the start of the chorus you're invested. Okay, I'll bite. What gives? The cymbal taps and the strings, and that heavenly voice. And as Cortine grabs you and won't let go for the end of the first round of the chorus and the hint of power is gone in a rush for the quiet of the bass and piano note plunks. And then the angel comes back. Walks next to you. It's okay now. Walk with me? Oh wait... twisted thoughts that spin.. round my head? What is this? This... maelstrom of emotion... where are we going?! Again?! My heart! And it builds. And builds. The vibrato. The love gone bad! Tattooed all I see! All that I ammmm.... and quiet again. Doo-doo-doot-dooo, dooo-doot dooo.... wait. Here we go again! A star... in somebody else's sky! WHY?! WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME?! And suddenly it's all over... standing alone again on the beach of life while the roiling emotion of ocean retreats once again.
Thank you PMJ and Cortnie for the ride. Absolutely exquisite.

Since you seem fond of the bittersweet combo of heartache and awesome musical talent like myself, I recommend you watch (if you haven't already) The Drug in Me is You by Falling in Reverse (2011?) And then check out their latest rendition of it titled The Drug in Me is Reimagined (2020?). I bawled the first 20 times I watched it probably and I'm not a crier at all. I recommend watching them both in that order so you can fully appreciate it and the evolution of Ronnie Radke the lead singer.

This song reminds me of my brother in law. He was like my brother, met him at 8 years old and he introduced me to Pearl Jam. He passed away in January from COVID-19 and he was only 47. He was such a happy person full of life.

Oh my goodness... One of my favorite PJ songs. This rendition portrays a little more despair, at least to me, the more I listen to it. It almost seems like this is the song played as the credits roll at the end of a really sad movie where the protagonist loses everything and it was somehow all in vain.
Thank you PMJ... Please do more.

    Black
    Pearl Jam
    Sheets of empty canvas
    Untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me
    As her body once did
    All five horizons
    Revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed
    Has taken a turn
Oh, and all I taught her was everything
Oh, I know she gave me all that she wore
    And now my bitter hands
    Chafe beneath the clouds
    Of what was everything
    Oh, the pictures have
    All been washed in black
    Tattooed everything
    I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by some kids at play
    I can feel their laughter
    So, why do I sear?
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head
    I'm spinning, oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can drop away?
    And now my bitter hands
    Cradle broken glass
    Of what was everything
    All the pictures have
    All been washed in black
    Tattooed everything
    All the love gone bad
    Turned my world to black
    Tattooed all I see
    All that I am
    All that I'll be, yeah
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
    I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky, but why? Why? Why
Can't it be, oh, can't it be mine?
