This week takes us back to Oxford Kidlington, for an ILS approach in somewhat poor visibility after a morning of fog. Another ILS approach in the bag after a short but busy flight with multiple contacts encountered, could have done with a SkyEcho... Stay tuned for the return, and an intense IFR flight to Gloucester.
Enjoy making these flights with you Robbie. I did see the aircraft flash under you. You probably saw that I went the PilotAware route based on price as much as anything and that was before the funding cut in! It happened with 8.33 as well. Nice edit, well done.
Thanks for watching Tim. Yes Indeed, I'll probably consider my options in the next few weeks to get the funding. Haven't flown at all recently. :( Glad everyone's enjoying the new style of edits.
Another great video, enjoy watching them! Did you norice just as you were switching to Oxford and saying "keeping a good lookout for traffic at all times" that another aircraft flew underneath you by a few hundred feet, it flashed across the left window (16:28)!?
Yes, that was passed onto me and was visual. Couldn't report visual as service was terminated. I was hoping someone would spot that, as during the edit down of the video I noticed it. Good spot :)
Just re-checked the radar log, was at 1800-2000ft at the time as per the information provided. That's why I always fly traffic service. Will invest in ADSB IN/OUT soon as it's worthy of my life ;)
I always seem to get denied a traffic service due to controller workload, always seems an issue with Farnborough West. I do have Pilot Aware for traffic notifications linked in with Skydemon and that seems to work great.
Worth knowing that depending on which version of the Aspen you have, it DOES rely on the pitot/static system to its AHRS solution. Lose the pitot/static and you lose your horizon and HSI.
Also, remember that we have dual GPS and new antennae fitted. I do wonder though if you can put that mode on for training? I've done a limited panel if the system fails for whatever reason as per the test requirements.
How does ADS-B traffic IN work in the UK? In U.S. we have to have ADS-B OUT (I have the Garmin GDL-88) to get the full traffic picture. You can receive some traffic information without it but to get a traffic tailored to your aircraft your installed device has to trigger the ADS-B ground station. BTW, enjoy your videos. I own a 2003 DA40-180 with traditional gauges so it's nice to see a similar one on TH-cam.
Hello! Firstly thanks for watching my vlogs! I hope you continue to enjoy. ADSB is the same here as in the US. Just not the way it's utilised in the US for General Aviation. @@davidecolley I've had it a fair few times, but not lately. Never busy enough haha! Does PilotAware pick up everything?
It seems to, even the multitude of gliders that seem to plague my neck of the woods.

I just looked. The aircraft has GPS-aided AHRS in the event of pitot-static failure. As it's the latest MAX version.
