I have my books in colour coding, it is less chaos for my eyes (which is beneficial as my shelves are in my bedroom), but it does take more time to find things. But when I was organising mine I incorporated all my black and white into the colour. So on my red shelf, I start of with black and red, go to dark red, bright red, light red, end with white and red etc, that allows me to incorporate most of my black and white books in with my coloured ones. Even black and white books without colour are sometimes foiled so I have Black books, Black and Grey, Black and Silver, Silver, Silver and White etc.

I cannot do a rainbow colour bookshelf, because all of my books are E-books.
I can no longer read such small fonts in the printed books so I had to switch to E-books which have the larger sized texts.
Beautiful!! 👏 I have had a rainbow shelf for years and years and it still makes me so happy! I do keep series together in a multicolor section, but for everything else, it really is so easy to find what I'm looking for. I am much more likely to remember that a book had a blue cover than who wrote it, so it works for me!

Ah I’m so excited you did this!! I’ve always had mine by color because I think it’s just so fun..the problem? I buy so many that rearranging them is a chore😂 people ask me all the time ‘how do you know where everything is?’…and honestly it may just be me but I generally know the color of all the books I have. If I think about a book im wanting to grab off the shelf, I typically know what general color is! Plus this time I did it by genre first..then color within that! Series are on separate shelves and BOTM on their own shelf so it works!

Honestly fair lol. I’ve been super intimidated to change up my books because of this reason. I’ll def do an update for how easy/ hard this was the next time I organize! 😊
So elegant by colours, i tried this in my library but then i should remember what genres are they, so i start over and over organising them, then i decided to put them on genre and the author first name, in this way i don't over thinking what this genre is and don't try to fatigue my mind and eyez.

Oh I do t know.... I love the rainbow look so much, so pretty, but I can’t do it for all those reasons you mentioned. I just spent about 4 days cleaning and reorganizing my library. I love your shelves so much. I try to keep authors and general genres together (eg fantasy, crime fiction, feminist/powerful female authors) but then have to try and keep heights even and colours together as much as possible. My shelves are shorter than yours but I've got a lot of them.
I’d love to incorporate heights somehow in my organization- that’s a great idea! And your shelves sound like a dream!! ❤️

I have my bookshelves by genre and age category, in order by author last name, along with a few shelves specifically dedicated to tbr books (which are by author last name). Those busts are just stunning. Aphrodite and Hera are always tied for favorite Greek goddess for me. The bookshelves look beautiful! You did such a great job!

I do mine by genre, and height but then alphabetical/series within that. But then I have some statement shelves, like my really beautiful naked hardbacks, and all my contemporaries are in mini rainbows. Contemporaries tend to be standalone and colourful so I they actually feel just as organised as my fantasy series by doing this! Also I'm a little obsessed with your dark academic shelf, you should totally try to keep some of it when you do your next arrangement!!

The organization that works for me is that I keep all my series together on one shelf and all my standalone together no matter the genre it’s just easier for me this way and I keep my manga and special editions on a whole separate bookshelf
your Dark Academia bookshelf is absolutely stunning!!! I think I'm gonna take that as an inspiration to reorganize my own bookshelf where for now my books are simply divided into read and unread (and I have to say, right now I do like it this way, I feel organized). Anyway, loved this video!

I don’t think I would be brave enough to do this, but have you considered temporarily theming your shelves for Christmas? Since you were considering organizing again in November, I thought that might be fun. Maybe red, green and white books together in the background? And perhaps theming some shelves for other winter holidays as well?

I'll be honest, when you said that the shelves weren't going to be alphabetical or by age category, my eye twitched just a bit. I like the end result, though, especially the dark academia shelf. That's my favorite. Maybe to tidy the other shelves up a bit, within the same colour schemes, put the books by height. My husband suggested an ombre effect for each colour, too.
Either way, your bookshelves are my dream. To quote Wayne from Wayne's World: "They will be mine. Oh, yes. They will be mine." LOL

I sort my books by main character last name then pg # in acending order. Then if there are a few with the same main character an pg # I sort them alphabetical by the title

Now that you're organizing your books, I've started organizing my books that I still want to buy, but I had the question of which genre these books belonged to: the atlas six, the invisible life of addie larue and we were liars
Although pretty to look at, I don't think I could organize my books by color - first, I have too many books and two, I am really confused how people FIND their books. I mean, spines aren't always the same color as the covers. Let us know how difficult or easy it is for you to find a particular title. I just want to say, if anyone could convince me to do a rainbow spread, it would be yours. My books are mostly organized like any library. Fiction by genre and/or reading age, and then alphabetical by author. Nonfiction by subject matter. And I have a few specialty book collections that are all shelved together - classics, faeries and fae, witches and Halloween, seasons of the year themed books.. And finally, you didn't ever show a full look at your DA all black books bookshelf. I'd love to see what it looks like from afar. Please. (I thought I'd put black and grey together when you first described what you were doing, but I really liked the grey books separately. Two big thumbs up.
As someone that has a rainbow bookshelf, I can quickly and easily find my books because I have a photographic memory hence I remember my books by their covers and voilà, easy-peasy! But as a dyslexic, I'm a lot slower at finding books organised by genre and alphabetical order by author. It takes me forever to find the books I'm looking for in bookshops (I don't mind I love the ambience) and I often just give up and ask for help then promptly get embarrassed when they show me the "obvious" place it would be at 😅. Just how different brains work I guess 🤷♀️☺️💕
