- This was a free trip that I took last week on the new Vivarail 230 battery train at the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway which gave me the opportunity to film its full journey and what a delight later that day to see and film the SRPS flagship CR No. 419 moving under her own steam for the first time in 9 years. Well done the srps steam locomotive guys for all your hard work on this wee gem.

Hope that modern thing isn't going to be a regular and is just visiting......on a much brighter note it's great to see the CR loco back in steam!

Nice that they've kept the District Line green grab poles. Is Surprisingly noisy though. You'd assume that since it's battery powered it would make hardly any noise, like a Tesla. You've still got the traditional traction motor sounds though, sounds like it's still got the original motors. And the front does look rather ugly now they've taken out the front end door.
Tesla's do make a noise though, as does the ZOE and Leaf cars I've driven, a quiet whine it's true but turn that into a train sized noise and it's a lot more obvious. To me it sounds like underground D stock!
Why do the most modern trains _have_ to be such an assault on the ears?

Great to see Battery power being used but what is that irritating whine in the background. It's enough to make me think twice before boarding the train.

You mean the same kind of whine you get from ALL types of electric vehicles, just amplified because of the size(yes, electric cars make the same noise, only since the size is smaller it isn't as noticeable).

Battery not steam, as steam pollutes, battery can run anywhere, as diesel trains, this way with either, electric trains can be done away with due to electrical or overhead wire track faults.

Is this rebuilt ex London Transport 'D78' stock? If so it isn't exactly 'new' is it?
Christ is is noisy... What is that damn whine, even when it stops. Is it an inverter, because it is not traction motor whine. A 1930's tram is not so noisy.
All you detractors of anything except ancient steam engines should realize that the railways ar n't run solely for you to stand around chewing straws and critiscising.

No more than some dirty old decrepit steam engine.--or even a clean just about running steam engine.
