Brilliant! Glad to have joined. I'm a classical / rock / gospel violinist - now expanding my horizons to learn to play, "fiddle style."
I'm playing the fiddle part on guitar, so thanks for the melodic help.
This is an AWESOME tutorial!!! The best I've seen for this tune. THANK YOU
Thanks Deborah!
What an iconic song! Can’t wait to start learning this one!
I love watching your techniques and hints!...Mainly cause you have so much fun playing!
Thanks Cindy!
Brilliant tutorial! Thanks. The Yorkshire accent adds a new twist to an old classic 😉
Thanks Jane!
You are a legend. If I can manage to play this I can die a happy man.
Thanks Darren! The trouble with this song is that you have to play it fast!
Thank you very much for those phantastic pieces and explanations! Very inspiring!
Thanks Beatrice!
Way to go Chris! Thanks for a super video. Full of ideas, suggestions and inspiration!
Thanks Sheila!
Not to my knowledge I am on the other side of the country but as you know everybody’s related over there. I certainly would’ve known people he would be connected with.
This one is such a universal favorite!
Yes, everybody loves this song (apart from maybe the Devil)!
WOW...great tutorial. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Andrea!
Thanks so much been playing this for so long .you’ve given me so much inspiration
Great tips and explanation of the tricky parts of this iconic fiddle tune. Well done Chris..!! 👍

Thanks Gary!
you’re a legend
Thanks Brian!
Fantastic!
I can just about play Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star on the violin. Subscribed, anyway! 😂🤣
Great tutorial, always wondered how hard it was, if it was easy everybody would do it…
Brilliant. Far more difficult than one could imagine .
I remember playing this for the first time, many years ago. It felt like playing something by Genesis!
excellent video and fiddling! And your accent is awesome!
Thanks Duke!
thank you im using this to play lead on bass!
That sounds like the devil's work!
This is a great channel I’m picking up a good few tunes off it thx
Thanks Alan. Are you any relation to Breandan, the writer on folk music? I had to learn to pronounce his name for a video a few weeks ago. Not easy to guess for an Englishman!
I just started playing fiddle a few weeks ago I hope I can get to this some day haha.
Hi Dustin. It's very useful to have something like this as a goal, but don't expect to get there too soon!
Ha ha!...what a hoot!...looks like you're having fun with this one !....
I sure was!
Great lesson
Sounds way better in Yorkshire accent! 👍😉
Chris, I was so surprised & fortunate to find your book “The Fiddle handbook” in an Ollie’s bargain store here in the states. And what a bargain it was! I’ve had it for a few years before discovering the TH-cam channel.
Loving your tutorials. Thanks for doing it… but … did you just sing ‘and he WERE willing to make a deal’?🤭
😉keep up the good work!
Hi Keith. Glad you are enjoying the videos. I've no idea what I sang, but I seem to remember I wasn't being too serious about it!
@@TheFiddleChannel I was just teasing about your proper English. Charlie Daniels sang ‘he WAS willing to make a deal’.
My dad is from Virginia and me mum from Liverpool, so I pick up on those details rather easily.
Thinking about learning to play the fiddle what are some good brands to look at, That are budget friendly but still decent ?
You can get good Chinese violins for around £200.
You can get good Chinese violins for around £200.
Great tutorial Chris. Although I'm a little disappointed that no mention was made that Charlie Daniels "borrowed" the main riff from "Lonesome Fiddle Blues" by the great Vassar Clements. I play Lonesome Fiddle Blues occasionally and get the inevitable comment, "Oh yeah! Devil Went Down To Georgia!"
Hi Randy. You're right, I should have mentioned that! The story I heard is that Daniels wrote the song so fast he didn't even realise he's pinched the tune. When he found out later, he agreed to split the copyright with Vassar. I suspect Vassar made a whole load more out of The Devil than he did from Lonesome Fiddle Blues!
What in the blank is the riff at the end of this song called? I know several songs that end the exact same way, a hard run down a chord, but I cannot figure out what it is called or how to learn the technique.
Give me a time point (eg 19.22) so I can tell which bit you're talking about
Dónde puedo conseguir el backing track sin violín???
todas mis pistas de acompañamiento están disponibles si te unes a mí en Patreon en el nivel 2 o 3

thank for the lesson ¡
where do you get the sheet music for this one, im just finding knock offs
Hi Essa. Send me an email to haighchris@hotmail.com
Many liked
Love it!
Thanks John!
Could you, in another video, break down just the devil's part and explain it in terms of music theory? It almost sounds like overlapping pentatonic scales though I could be mistaken.
Hi David. Are you referring to the underlying riff of the Devil's solo, rather than the fiddle part? The riff is based on the minor blues scale (pentatonic plus a flattened 5th). I think the fiddle solo is pretty random and not based on any scale!
@@TheFiddleChannel
Thank you for your reply. 80)
I get the pentatonic blues in the riff, since you explained it. If, however, the fiddle part is random, how did he keep reproducing it?
On the Devil's solo there are two fiddles playing simultaneously, so he wouldn't have reproduced this live.
@@TheFiddleChannel OK, that explains
why it sounds so intricate. Thanks for explaining it.
Where can I get this specific sheet music?!
Hi Nicole. Send me an email to haighchris@hotmail.com
My hand is cramping just watching but my mom said no more recitals if I get it down, so here I go
Yeah, go for it!
Ty!
Do I get a gold fiddle if I learn it.
Only if you learn it better than the Devil!
WOW
Get ready for a ton of views on this one! If I had a nickel every time someone asked me if I can play this...
Hi Strad. Yes, I think this will be a popular one!
Just wanna be able to okay devil went down to Georgia:( lmao.. are you in the UK?!and do you teach aha.. I'll travel and pay!
Ace!
Thanks Rita!
🤣🤣🤣
Charlie Daniels kind of ripped this off from Vassars Lonesome Fiddle Blues.

Why aren't you?🤣
