  • My husband brought home a bunch of ground provision so I decided that it was video time!!! There is a boat that comes to the island every week and they bring fresh ground provisions and fruits from mainly Dominica and some of the other Caribbean Islands.
    This is the first video I did about Ground Provisions. It was basically a video with still photos of Ground Provisions and I did not go into depth like I am doing in this video.

    This is another video that I did with my husband demonstrating how to peel the green bananas.

      +Miossoty Johnson I know that you can get goods from the market in Saturday mornings. Sometimes at Sea Cows bay by the well. Are you in the BVI?

      Hi dear, before you freeze the leftover raw Dasheen, do you wash it first? Or do you peel, cut in segments, wash, put in Ziploc bag and freeze it? - Thank you

    Thanks for the video. For those who are in the US or the UK, I would love to know how best to choose the best pieces when buying in the market if you can spare the time.

    I got lazy and started cooking these in the microwave whole and after punching the necessary holes to avoid busting open. I peel after the cook time (which is about 3 to 5 minutes for small pieces and 5 to 7 minutes for larger root vegetables). Bananas and plantain should not need more than 5 minutes. The peeling is easier as long as you are careful not to burn yourself (they tend to get very hot). I would advise using the the stove and boiling method for health concerns but allowing this alternative for convenience.
    04252018 UPDATE:
    I had to edit this last sentence: boiling is the preferred method for health concerns; it is just a slow and tedious process. The last sentence has been changed to correct the error pointed out by another person commenting. Thank you.
    Additionally, the green and yellow banana tend to dry out much more quickly than the other provisions, so (for microwaving) never mixed the items and figure out the best cooking times for your microwave -it will vary. I tend to boil water anyway. The microwave makes peeling and cutting very easy and fast. The bananas peel best after only 2 minutes in my microwave. I can add all ingredients to my previously boiling water for one minute to get the right consistency as the longer more labor intensive method.
    Bon appetit ‘ everyone 😃🖤✅

      +DougEs Whurl Very interesting method! So did you put the provisions in a container with water before putting them in the microwave?

    • @DougEsWhurl
      @DougEsWhurl 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +WhaToCook the good things is no containers are needed. Wash off the items first. Be careful not to walk away while bananas and plain rain are cooked. After several years of no problems, one stem (not the banana itself) ignited slightly like slow burning rope. I guess the stem was too dry on this one. Uncanny incident. Thanks for you reply. 👍🏾

      +DougEs Whurl a container is optional.

      Using a microwave for health concerns is never a good idea.
