    I selected the forehead of my model, to demonstrate the final layer technique (also called second painting or overpainting) of a painting in my sketchbook. My palette consisted of four colors: Titanium White, Yellow Ochre, Cad Red and Ivory Black. This is a wet on wet technique used by the Old Masters.

    Hola Amigo Cesar Santos, yo soy de las islas FIlipinas. Yo no hablo Espanol bien. The reason why I am writing you a message is that I just wanted to share my experience, and also to thank you for your video and your philosophy that inspires me as an artist as well. As a matter of fact, I am also an Artist but I am artist comics illustrator, animator and industrial designer. My dream is in fact, to meet you in person, I am older than you Cesar, but you did inspires me with your art, your style of classical approach of painting. I also studied in Moscow Industrial Design School (Escuela Superior de Diseno Industrial named after Stroganov en Moscu, la URSS- desde 1985 hasta 1993 anos. Though I studied design, but we never paid attention too much in Human figure drawing and classical painting at the same time, until i graduated, and when I dived into a job,,i started learning myself, digged deeper search for my own style, Though I was a comics artist before I left the Philippines in September of 1985, I was not that skillful enough and to these date. I became cartoonist animator in United Arab Emirates but not too strong...
    What I mean, these days, I already turned 53 last August 2018 and going to be 54 this year, I started reviving my desire to do visual arts, and certainly, as I go online searching for the masters, and then that is the reason I found you...Also I wish to share to you that I got some Cuban friends who studied with me in Stroganov Art School in Moscow, Russia, his name is Lizardo Ochoa, for what I remember he did monumental painting,, Nidia Fernandez, Nora Fuentes and Gabriel who did INterior Design forgot his apellido. We in fact, all speak fluently in Russian. Becaus enthat isour medium of communication in USSR that time. Well, its too interesting to watch your video about drawing and painting your classical approach really inspires me...and besides, Philippines is also a tropical countru like Cuba, and we both had the same destiny when AMerican ceded our country from Spain during the 1898 SPanish AMerican War...that is when the Treaty of Paris signed in 1898,,and Philippines was bought for 20 million dollars by the US from Spain...and same thing happened to Puerto Rico, Cuba and Guam in Marianas Islands in the Pacific, How I wish to meet you in person one day....Your avid fan...Your uncle form the Philippines my name is Manolito M Agustin
    Good Job!

    0:33) 3rd stage/2nd painting layer
    Is just a thin wet on wet layer with a lot of medium
    = basically glazing/ stumbling
    In order to create layers for the light to pass through = mimics irl skin and creates illusion of translucent skin like old masters

    The tips about manipulating drying speed, like with marble dust were very interesting! Why mix the two different blacks and not just use the fast-drying one, though? 🤔

    • @santocesart

      Regular ivory black has better quality, and just the fast drying one, dries too fast, uncomfortable.

    I've only recently learned about the 'fat over lean' idea. I am only about to really start learning oils. Does that method stay together better than say the Bob Ross method where progressively thinner layers were used? Or is the thinning layers due to the wet on wet method and not suitable for a dry surface painting like this?

    • @EulogyfortheAngels
      @EulogyfortheAngels 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob Ross' method utilizes fat over lean.

    • @watchvids7802
      @watchvids7802 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes to your last question, Painter Florent Farges has made a very clear explanation video (see below), and there are many good written explanations on fat over lean on the internet. In short, the paint film will crack, and it's not "thin vs. thick" layers, but how much oil is in each layer. Check it out: th-cam.com/video/z7DWCoS-eiE/w-d-xo.html

    1:45) Instead of Oleogel he uses
    Thickened Linseed Oil W&N: goo.gl/pQM1Ub
    For the extra fat
    2:13) Extender Medium
    (Its just the Marble dust + Oil) Marble dust he uses to get the white to be less opaque = better for thinn final layer
    and to dry faster
