    Thank you sharing this. I learned so much in that 13 minutes. I went through my brushes and did the test and was surprised to find that I do have some good ones. Thank you for explaining the difference between the oil and watercolor brushes too. I think it is easy for novice painters to get lazy about brushes, but your tools really do make a difference. Now, my approach to painting will be totally different. I will first think of what the painting needs when I choose my brushes.

    I was disappointed on my second Rosemary order. The first order they included several amazing chocolates. I was looking forward to them on the second purchase, but none were in the box. Oh well, the brushes themselves are working wonderfully. I guess I will have to get my own chocolate. ;) BTW, your artwork is amazing and I will definitely be checking out your other videos.

    Bought about 25 recently . Love them.
    I still like some of the Escoda. I even like a few of my old watercolor brushes. But if I could get all the money back on all the brushes and spend them on Rosemary I would.
    We used to get brush wholesalers out to the California Art Institute in Thousand Oaks. This guy bought leftovers and blemish errors.
    I remember him spreading out maybe a thousand brushes on the floor.
    I think having Rosemary brushes is going to improve my art. It’s that simple.

    Your channel has quickly become one of my favorite on TH-cam! Thanks so much for this lesson on brushes. And yes, Rosemary brushes are one of the best! They are one of my faves along with the Escoda brushes. I don't normally use the natural brushes for my oils though, usually use them with watercolor because I fear that I would spoil them haha. What's important for me too though is the brush care, best ways to clean them and keep them. Perhaps you could share that in one of your upcoming video? Keep up the good work and we'll be watching always...

    A tip recommended from a artist in an instructional video I own was to apply standard hair conditioner to the brush after cleaning and let dry over night. This works great for all natural hair brushes. Does wonders for holding the shape of the brush. Any brand will work.

      first choose the available paint with the nearest hue to the hue of what you're copying. then adjust the value by adding white and/or yellow to lighten OR black and/or brown to darken to arrive to the value of what you're copying. then adjust the chroma by adding a neutral grey of the same value to lower the chroma or a high chroma paint of same value and hue to increase the chroma.

      D&T Floyd you could use solvent, oil, soap and water, or a combination of the three. I often give my brushes a rinse in solvent, give them a quick wash in Walnut oil, and wipe off the excess oil to condition the bristles. You can also use soap and water, but be sure you get all of the soap out of the bristles so that it does not get into the paint. If you get soap into the paint it can compromise the integrity of the painting. You do t always have to clean your brushes thoroughly, because it can wear them down. I have a light brush, a mid tone brush, and a dark brush. I just wipe off the paint and dip them in oil. Try those out and see what works best for you. Let me know how it works. :) Happy to help.

    Can you please do a video explaining varnishing. When to do it and when not to? Thank You 🙏🏼

    • @GalleryBry
      @GalleryBry 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      D.O.N MUZIC varnishing protects the painting and evens out the colors, so there really isn’t much of a downside to varnishing. It will likely make your paintings look better. If you use gamsol, you can varnish when it is touch dry. If you use damar varnish, you may need to wait up to six months to make sure the painting is dry and the varnish won’t crack. Let me know if you have questions. Happy to help. :)

    What is the best method of cleaning brushes? Can you use the same brush for oil and acrylics?

    • @GalleryBry
      @GalleryBry 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Garza there are lots of methods for cleaning brushes. You can uses the same brushes for acrylics and oils but make sure they are very clean before switching. Typically natural hair is used for oils because it can tolerate the solvents and soak up more paint, whereas synthetics can break down over time from solvents. I usually clean my oil brushes with a little bit of gamsol and then use linseed oil to clean off excess paint and to condition them between sessions. You can also use soap and water. Try them all out and see what works best for you. :)
