I Ate Nothing but Cereal for a Week. Here’s What Happened

- I ate NOTHING but Kellogg's Cereal for 1 Week - to save money!!
Kellogg's CEO Gary Pilnick said that people should have cereal for dinner in order to save them money. So I took it one step further.
Is it sustainable in general? And how much money does it really save you? I'm going to take what I spent and multiply it to find out how much a family of 4 would really save.
This was a strange week... . Please don't do this at home yourselves.

Sending a couple bucks for Alka seltzer for the hot dog challenge
Ahhh thanks so much!
Round 2, non-Kelloggs products! Lidl and Aldi etc.
Hah. Give me half a year 😅
Yes imagine doing that and using the price difference for fruits etc to help
£4.50 for a box of cereal....good grief.
I swear it said £3.49 on the shelf but the receipt said otherwise :(
The best part is that the supermarket own-brand equivalents are usually just as good for 1/3 of the price of Kelloggs. Hilarious that the CEO thinks that anybody genuinely trying to saving money would buy their cereal for dinner in the first place.
@@SamWilder.Always nab that receipt
For a video idea you could do eating Percy pig branded food for 24 hours! Especially around Easter time because the Percy pig chocolate Easter head is amazing(it’s strawberry flavoured!)❤
Hi, loved this vid. Not sure if someone's already suggested this but you could do a pt.2 to this where you take the £16.58 and buy a weeks worth of food with it and compare if that shop or the cereals 1. lasted you longer/ created more meals and 2. if the meals in it were better/more enjoyable. That way you can prove if cereal is a more budget friendly option and also if enjoyment wise it's a reasonable suggestion compared to the alternative.
I like to eat dry cereal as a snack. My favourite is crunchy nut
SAME! I like mulitgrain ones either the shapes or the Cheerios, yummy. xD
@@CazOSX yes
I used to love nesquik cereal dry, or cheerios, can't eat them anymore - way too much sugar
I’d lose my mind eating cereal 3 times a day for a week, I applaud your dedication.
Special k I use as a snack. Wheetabix I use with hot milk and sugar, it's really filling.
Wheetabix would have been amazing for this challenge but it’s not Kellogg’s! :(
Fan of this channel
Adding warm milk to cereal especially cornflakes is really nice. And makes a change.
Iv not tried adding warm milk to cornflakes . Seems like a nice little snack before bed though or for breakfast in the winter months.
@shannonhayes3504 it just makes everything soggy
I've kept boxes of bran flakes as a snack by the handful for years.Detest milk but love dry cereal. Plenty of added vitamins.
Soak porridge in cold milk, filling and comforting
Enjoyed the video. I admire your dedication.
For the milk cheap can of evaporated milk and 500ml of water. Will still be very creamy so may need to add more but that makes 1L. I normally add Elmhurst water for extra minerals, This also works great for home made yoghurt.
I know this video is from a while ago but I’m watching older videos since I found your channel. I’m really enjoying the content! I had to tell you that, in the wintertime, I enjoy warmed milk on my Frosted Mini Wheats! Yes, they get a little soggy but I still like it. Keep on keeping on!
A few years back there was actually a Kelloggs 2 week cereal only diet touted for a while. Special K may have been involved rather than more sugary varieties, but it was literally at least 2 bowls plus a 'proper' meal or just 3 bowls a day for 2 weeks because obviously it was not healthy or sustainable. but even then the cost was not really budget friendly!
I don’t eat much cereal but I do have cornflakes on hand for cooking - breading chicken and pork chops in particular.
This is a great little channel, should have way more than 6k subs
Hopefully one day!
I saw an advert years ago pushing cereal for the evening meal. It was a couple in a flat and they poured cereal out.
I NEVER REALISED FROSTED WHEATS EXISTED. THIS IS CRAZY. I'M GOING TO TRY THEM ON MONDAY! OMG
I believe we have raisin, blueberry, apricot, mixed berry, frosted and chocolate from Kellogg’s now!
@@SamWilder. woah
i would actually have cereal over a takeaway far nicer and id say a lot healthier. at times i put my leftover milk into my coffee. but i only buy non brand cereal. brands mean nothing to me.
I find these days the non brand stuff taste just as good as the branded. I don't by branded either.
I wished we could get crunchy nut in the US. We used to have it years ago, but it's no longer here. It was my favorite. 😭
😢
Porridge is probably the best value. Very cheap, goes a long way, can use half water half mik, no sugar no salt low in fat bulks up leaves you feeling full for longer. The longer you go without sugar, the less you want it.
Fair - but there’s no Kellogg’s porridge!
thanks for doing this!
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed!
I love shreddies but corn flakes are my favourite Kellogg’s cereal (since start cereal got discontinued 😢)😊
Take this a step further and buy supermarket branded equivalent.
Interesting experiment 😁👍💕💕
On A cold morning I often make chocolate semolina. A cross between coco pops and porridge.
Wow I’m in the U. S. And our cereal is like $5 a box ! Our milk like $3.50 a gallon. Also what was the first thing you ate after this challenge?!?
I think it was breakfast so was a toasted bagel. But then curry for dinner!
Imagine advocating for cereal for dinner rather than tackling the cost of living crisis!!
Hi Sam good experiment
I love porridge and could definitely eat it every meal
I’ve had it every morning for the last 60 years sounds a long time when its written down
But honestly I love all cereal
Well done ❤️
I’m a huge porridge advocate myself!
❤️
My weird cereal combo is porridge with cornflakes crushed up into it with a few whole ones on top. I put honey on top then. So lovely all year round. It reminds me of my grandad 😊
This just proves that ceos and higher ups of companies lose touch with reality 😭 because in what world would this make sense to do
It’s a bit baffling. I did take it to the extreme though 😂
Applaud your dedication Sam 👏 I would have stopped eating after three days.
It was a very tough week 😂
Sometimes when I don’t have enough milk for a bowl of coco pops , I make a coffee with some milk and use that for the cereal 😂 it’s very good 10/10 would recommend!😊
Like a mocha coco pops?!
@@SamWilder. YES! you should try it!😁
@@SamWilder. hey! Did u try it yet?😂🧡😊
Since 2018, most cereals now contains Chlormequet, which causes deformed babies and reduces sperm. Government started to permit low levels from imported grains from Canada, and just raising it higher, and finally made it legal to spray in the US, to avoid liability.
I checked this out beforehand - not in the UK luckily.
My favourite cereal is Frosties. Also, I agree with @2e6t, dry cereal as a snack is good.
I’m a frosted shreddies man
@@SamWilder. gotta try those
This is exactly how my university years played out :)
Ngl, same!
Dayum, the dedication 👏
😆
£49 on cereal for an entire family? That’s shocking 🤯
Not that this video is at all serious (and I love it for that) but I do find it interesting what *type* of food cereal might replace for dinner. If kids love it, it's an easy way to make them happy rather than getting take out. Or rather than a ready meal. But instead of home cooked food... I'm unsure.
Hot milk an Weetabix makes a kinda porridge.
Name brand cereal! IN THIS ECONOMY!!!
Blame Gary!
But 1kg of porridge is just £0.90p
anyway
did you go off the serving suggestion or just free pour the cereal?
I explain that in the vid 😂 had 3 portions worth per mealtime
This brought to mind my college years, when I was dancing full-time. Half of the year below mine (so about 5 people, tiny college) decided to do the Special K "drop a jean size" challenge with two 30g bowls of cereal a day and one normal dinner. They couldn't function by lunchtime on day two - I may have made the effort to go and collect McDonalds for my entire year just to make a point of how silly the dieters were being... 🤣
What happens when you eat too much cereal? sharp rises in blood sugar levels and strong responses from the pancreas
Why would that be the case?
Yikes, cereal is too expensive in Australia 🇦🇺 to eat for a day🥣 or a week 😊
Also cereal is considered UPF or junk food, not good.
Glad to know you have scored a job 👍
Fun video
Back before diabetes, after which I dropped my carb intake a lot, I used to like to heat up muesli and milk in the winter. Yes, it gets squishy but less so than something like corn flakes.
I think maybe cereal once a day is fine. Even twice a day if you're really tight, and you brought store (own) brands. (some of which are very good!). But you're gonna need, nutritionally, more protein and green stuff. A SERIOUS lack of green veg!
Interesting, I'm thinking of trying the same myself.
Aldi is the best for cereal, the price of branded hurts my eyes 🤣
Aldi's own are great and very cheap, long gone are the no frills blue stripe knock off brands, you'd have to be a psycho to buy Main brands anymore
Should've got Aldi's own only if you really wanted a ' save money vid'
He was doing Kelloggs because of what Gary, the CEO said.
The way to do it is weetabix, mashed banana, and milk, microwaved for 3-5 minutes and mixed all together into a wheaty porridge. incredible.
Congrats on getting a job Sam!!!
The amount of money cereal costs here in Australia, vegetables would be cheaper. Even factoring in the cost of cooking. And most cereals are loaded with sugar. Thank you for the video.
Don't shift weights on that diet for long.
Low calories, low protein, & lots of movement will bring problems. A week won't hurt, but jumping from challenge to challenge will make it longer.
Oh don’t worry! I definitely won’t do an entire week long challenge for a long while!
The range of cereals in the UK is huge !
Hahahahaha 😅😅😅 Oh hell no!! You have got to be the funniest nut job on you tube!!! How do you even think this stuff up? Well done! I loved it 😂😂
😆 glad you enjoyed!
you possibly should have followed Garys company guidance to measure out the directed portion size and milk ??
Cereal is like Chinese food to me I’m hungry one hour after I eat it. I’m pretty sure we had warm frosted wheats as a child. Pretty sure if you tried to feed a child that every day every meal they will throw it at you.
Oh well done on the new job. I never eat cereal anymore, just don't fancy it, never mind for every meal! Having said that, I work with plenty of people who eat cereal at any meal - quick and easy I suppose. The price of some of them though - it's like a luxury now!
Thank you! And yes, it is a bit isn’t it! I don’t often have it either really!
I like eating some cearels dry straight out the packet. Not sure if that's weird, but I enjoy it! :D
Frosties and Coco pops or there non brand equivalents are good for that
TH-camr adam ragusea made a video where he made a bowl of cereal allowed it to steep for a while strained the old ceral from the flavoured milk then added fresh cereal to that milk so it had the nice cereal milk flavour it's very extra but it's about as creative as you can be with this concept
There is a family on YT, that posted about just buying ASDAS Just Essentials products and got enough food for the 3 of them for the whole week for 30 pound. That is probably better than just eating cereal and less expensive still.
I like your experiment though.
Oh exactly! It’s definitely not a sustainable model and the CEO is just chatting rubbish 😂
Some ok stuff in the yellow branded Asda essentials..quite like their pizzas
Use hot water or hot milk on Shredded Wheat was a breakfast we used to eat back in the 60's. Maybe your wheat biscuits...
this is good with a sprinkle of sugar. Or at least I loved it growing up in the 80's
Hi Sam, with the ridiculous prices of cereal nowadays I'm not surprised it's not the best option. Not to mention that it's basically junk food, eating cakes, cookies(biscuits) and pies probably has more nutritional value. Our Sam could have just done the maths but I'm proud to say he put himself through hell so noone else has to got to Cereal-4-Dinner Purgatory. Thanks Sam Jacques Mexico
the more sugar you have the hungrier you will be try porridge or ready brek hi iron helps with workouts and slows your hunger
Oh I normally have porridge all the time!
you need iron in your life to take on the day@@SamWilder.
Cereals are fortified with iron here in the UK
@@tarachristie933 i know but having a hard time believing the hype
You ate much more cereal in a week than I are in my whole life 😂 I'm just not a cereal person.
If you like them i suggest Chocolate or normal streddies and hot milk. I really like they go really soft like a porridge texture. But any other cereal i do not like hot milk with. 😂
Good idea for a video. My all time fave has to be coco pops!!😂
Love a coco pop. I really miss ricicles though!
Math genius in the building! 😂
😂 it was hard to keep track hahaha
keep up the good work @@SamWilder.
Shredded Wheat with sugar, salt, Butter & Hot Milk. Weird eh, but lovely
Sam! Your a Cereal offender 😂
Great video.
You missed the Sugar puffs out.
I used to love those as a kid.
Porridge with hot water and just a splash of milk = saves milk
You know, they now call them “Honey Monster Wheat Puffs” because they can’t legally call them “Sugar” anymore? 🥲
@@SamWilder.
Going woke on Sugar puffs, whatever next.
I mean the Honey monster eats them & he is in great condition 😁
I did the Kellogg's crunchy nut challenge once ,one bowl for breakfast and one bowl for lunch then a healthy small meal for teatime....i didnt lose any weight sadly .....the cost of cereal is off putting .... porridge is good but i get bored of it 😆
I had a good mate once who used to have 4 bowls a day!!
I reckon that Kellogg's cereals are always way overpriced. You could have gone for cheaper supermarket own brands which are just as good.
I like cornflakes hot milk double cream sugar and raisins....as a treat tho
Indulgence at its finest. I gotta try!
Own brand cereal would be a lot cheaper though.
SWEET 😂
Did you loose any weight that week on just cereal?
I don’t have scales so couldn’t tell you… maybe?
It’s 11.45pm I’m in bed and I want cereal
I don’t eat cereal. Porridge; baked oats; overnight oats; fruit, seeds, berries, yogurt. Occasionally toast and Marmite. But no cereal for about a year. Too sugary.
Get cheaper non branded cereal would be better and add in fresh fruit
Ouch a whole week.. if you knew the history of Kelloggs you’d never eat that expensive gruel again 😂😂
I'm guessing Kellogg's are as bad as Nestlé
Really enjoying your videos.
Fruit n fibre is nice but can break your teeth on them Banana bit if you dont let the milk soak into them !
Get a Full English down ya Sam !
Oh I will definitely be eating anything but cereal for a long time 😂
I find baking cereal with a bit of salt is terrific
That is something I’ve ever heard of! 🤔
Thank you Sam not worth it if you meal planned you could feed a family on the £50. and I'm sure they would'nt be fed up as they would just having cereal every meal ...Great news about your job just to see you threw till you get your dream job .x
You could have used joghurt instead of milk though 🤗
I love warm milk with cereals. Am I a freak?
It’s amazing with certain cereals! Special K was not the one 😂
Sam I have wrote to you before so please listen when I say your quirkyness that you have been doing more has time goes on is awesome but may I suggest a little bit more keep the great vids coming
arey british people still using pound .. i thought its obsolete
A cup of tea on weetabix
CONGRATULATIONS on getting a job!
What about buying a weeks worth of food and cook from scratch to show what can be done with the same amount of money.
You have my respect for sticking with this challenge, even though I think you must be a bit if a masochist 😮
Maybe a little 😅
With the cost of cooking though and zero effort I see where Gary was coming from need to do a week on cheaper supermarket ones 🤔
There’s definitely something behind the idea - just not all the time!
Rather you than me!
Out of principle I would ween my kids off cereal because he said that.what a disgrace. I bet his kids don't touch the stuff.
The whole interview is pretty outlandish.
The frightening thing is that you actually sound serious about a family considering doing this. Frightening stuff, plus a blazé attitude towards liking sugar. I would only give my kids maybe 2 cereals that are on the market or porridge and I would always choose something healthier where possible. To me proper food wins over nutritionally poor food that has to have vitamins added to it.
Yikes Sam. Try not to get scurvy.
Sorry not really up my street
Boycott Kelloggs
When you said you are not a nutritionist, you are very correct. Just because a cereal has sweetened, dried, preserved fruit derived products in it doesn't make the cereal healthy anymore than fruit flavored soda is healthy. If you are going to make videos like this the least you can do is spend an hour educating yourself.
