Me too. I have a Simplex + running it on 2.77 with SP28 Coil. I found Park 1, best with iron volume turned off , this way you dont get any iron buzz on small hammered silver coins and small gold. on deep iron that give a nice tone just check by bobbing the coil over the target and see if you get a iron buzz, another way is to move the tip of the coil in and out over the target if its iron you should hear that buzz. ; -)
That's a very telling review, which NM need to be aware of. Brilliant testing and insight as usual. Isolation of targets in iron infested land is a must. Failure to do some software changes, may lead to people avoiding this machine. Brilliant unbiased channel. ⭐
Glad to see these tests. I ordered the pro-pack because all I have now is the Simplex w/ the 11" coil. It's gonna be a huge learning curve but I have permissions with heavy iron that I want to try the small coil on
Mike. That was a very good demonstration of the Legend out of the box iron masking recovery speed down the barrel. Evidently updates will be coming because I believe if you tested your Simplex, it would have hit those targets...I have one ordered and some test demos look nice and others are not so impressive. However, once all the updates that will be forthcoming, it will be smoking like a funny car at the drag strip.
Thank you for this honest review. I've been holding out for the legend, had a Nox and Deus prior now looking to get back into the game. Unfortunately unless they release an immediate update to resolve that resolves this I think it will be back to the nox

I am surprised the legend didn’t pass this test. I still plan on getting it but I canceled my order temporarily until they get these little bugs worked out. I did this test with my My simplex today and it passed ! I will stick with the simplex for a little while longer until some of the bugs are worked out on the legend. I love the build quality of the simplex and it’s almost indestructible and its a good performing detector in my soil. I still believe the legend will be a top performing machine once it’s been out on the market for a while.
Like the SIMPLEX which I'm in love with... I own 2. The sniper coil is a BLESSING... And for the price... The LEGEND IMO is going to be even more AMAIZING... I CAN'T wait to get the LEGEND!!! Ty sir

Well done Iffy Signals. This video caused a slight storm in a tea cup but the result is that they will update the Legend to have a user adjustable iron bias. Good stuff. 👍👍
NM came back with a counter argument to iffys video, but I believe the idea was to receive a fair unbiased comparison, and from my watching that's what was done. They don't want to add an iron bias but later said there is infact an optimum iron bias incorporated with the device but were not able to adjust it. If NM read the comments it's clear that some people want to be able to toggle through to find the optimum range for themselves. Seems like a well made machine, loads of positives but loads more potential, but I'm happy to stay with my Nox.
Hi Got Slots, as we seen from Dileks video yesterday the update already looks great and i agree the options should be up to the user. Many sites/styles are different. Its also great that they will have it to us quickly.

Do not hesitate to insist when you'll report your feedbacks to NM to specify that it needs to have better settings to allow us to use the Legend in iron infested sites and being able to unmask and seeing thru iron is a really really important aspect for lots of us. I don't know how the Deus II is able to achieve that but according to tests I've seen, its really good. Being able to see thru iron is not something every detectorists need but for those who hunts places with dense iron all around, unmasking is hyper important... I wonder if its something they can fix/tweak with updates or if its just something they can't achieve? mhmm

Even the original Deus could do that. I found a small Roman coin directly underneath a rusty nail with my Deus, no masking at all. Coin at around 8" and the nail above at about 5". It was an obvious high target with the edges sounding like iron. How old is the original Deus now? 13 years old or something like that?...
@@IffySignals the jury is out on the legand my big thing is the iron test doesn't look good. With the anfibio i found a silver coin with 5 nails in the hole and the anfibio read the coin perfect at 8 inches

Tim, I'm with you. This isn't making any sense. Something is wrong here. From what we're seeing now, the results are worse than previous demonstrations from testers.

The test I saw performed was of a vertical profile nail/coin test on the same plain ( not with raised iron, such as occurs in all sites). The tester swings over a coin from left to right with the nail sited vertically to the tester, above the coin. Any DD coil passes this simple test. Either the tester didn't perform the test in SMF like Iffy Signals did, failed to perform a raised nail test, or he tried it, realised it was a fail, and didn't want to upset the 'apple-cart'? Either way, it is the proficiency of the tester/s that makes, or breaks, a manufacturers reputation, in my op..
Hi Iffy! Have you ever tried to pump the coil over big iron? When I do that with my Simplex and other machines, it sometimes gives a grunty sound instead of a big clear sound like we generally hear when doing a normal swing. How does the Legend react when you pump its coil over big iron? Will it sound iron or clear high signal?
That is disturbing! To not even see the dime. Any experienced detector knows one of our biggest challenges is how much to discriminate against iron/ aluminum junk and risk losing nickels, gold rings etc… it takes time knowing our machines to get good at it! But to not separate a totally different material as in this example with the dime?? Huh 🤔 Now I’m torn…. Thank you for this test
Great videos. Have watched them all. Do believe your test was fair- Nokta should have an Iron Bias capability imo and the Legend Target IDs still seem jumpy. Ordered a Deus II, Keeping my Nox 800, no interest for now in buying a Legend.
nicely done comparison vid. How does the Legend do if you run it with normal tones. Any difference in reporting? As a nokta/makro user I prob wouldn't have dug the buried iron target you have. Seemed to be showing plenty of feed back that it was large iron.
Hey Flyrock, these are the only tones. Just square audio. I was not getting anything from the tones. The FerroCheck did give me a little info on the Ferrous side but nothing to stop me from digging.
What you are doing with your reviews is great. And will be great for your channel I think. Stay with what you are doing. Honest reviews are what is needed by testers. Although you may have stepped on a wasp nest lol
Now that they have put out an update did you update yours and redo the test? If so how'd it do if not are you going to? I have the 800 almost ordered or pre-ordered the legend to compare, but I am glad I decided to wait. The package with the 6-in coil is now re-tempting me. I have a 6-in coil for the Equinox and it's become a go-to in a few situations.

This is weird because on the prototype models I saw people doing the nail board test and it performed fantastic. Of course the nail board test still has all the iron at the same level. I also wonder if a lot of this is due to coil design technology. Too wide of a detection zone causing an inability to see closely placed targets etc, even with high recovery speed. This is also why I hate not having a pitch tones option, that alone can usually tell if something is iron or masking. Square tones are great for making targets apparent but they lack information.
i`d be interested in hearing what you iffy think about this test. ? one iron target alongside a silver coin with reactivity maxed should be a walk in the park , it`s when you introduce multiple iron targets around the coin were things get harder. kinda shocked , cant lie
I ordered a equinox 800 a few days ago it arrives tomorrow. I'm new to detecting. From what I've seen on a lot of TH-cam videos ot seems to be the best over all detector for the money. For beaches parks nugget hunting in the deserts and streams etc. In your professional opinion what do you think is the best over all detector for relics coins and nugget?
Ya, but look at the anfibio..they have had NOTHING BUT COMPLAINTS about the overload on it..they just released an update and didnt or COULDNT fix that!!
Well, I know my Simplex won't pass that test either but this was supposed to be a big upgrade from the simplex and at least a match for the equinox. But you did say that you thought that this model sounded a little sparkier than the Prototype you tested before and maybe they change the recovery speed on the final version just a little to give it more depth in exchange for recovery. That would explain why it wasn't able to hit the dime this time but on the Prototype test I saw tested before it did better than the equinox.
Ken, something has happened. There's night and day now since Nokta took the detectors back for hardware and software updates. Earlier tester results were much different especially on the nail board test.
I do appreciate your honesty . You are supposed to be one of the 4 people testing these legends . Did you pay for this Machine or get it for free ? Either way I guess that don’t matter , thanks for being so honest .If it was not for you I’d own one of these machines .
Hey Jon, for the Legend the only other one I know is Andy O’Neil at We Dig Metal Detectors. He is also the service center. I tested the Legend during development. I have not been part of any update testing for it.
Interesting tests, well your showing me that the legend is really not as good as the Nox. How do you explain the fact that both units hit the coin with the buried washer. What are the buried depths on that test. Can you give me more information on your bury criteria of the targets? A fair test though, it did open my eyes a bit.
Hey John, there is no coin buried with the iron washer.. there is a target on the side. Not sure what it is. Its a natural target that i haven’t dug. The iron washer is at 4-5” inches.
I'd really like to see how it is against the Simplex as far as iron/target separation. Maybe switch from multiple to single on the Legend and see the difference? I had a friend with a nox 800 next to me with my simplex and he went over a target that sounded just like a token that I had found moments before. He had me swing over it with my Simplex and all I heard was iron, but the nox had a clean signal. He dug up an iron blob of crap. It was all iron on the simplex and I would not have dug it up. My $300 machine knew it was iron that his $1,000 machine thought was a great target
Hey WD, i do not have a simplex but have tried all the single frequencies in park, field. The singles like the deep iron even more. I also tried Beach W and D.. no go.
@@IffySignals oh wow! I feel Deep iron can be tough on almost any machine though. I'm truly happy with my simplex, but I just WANT the Legend. I guess more so for emi/noise canceling. I miss a lot on one of my farm permissions because of their electric fences. I have to stay 25-35 ft away or so or the machine gets a lot of interference. I can still swing slowly but false a lot and definitely affects the performance.
I have a simplex and I know it will be much better on the beach. It’s a win all the way around for me. I’m sure the updates to come will make this a really good detector and that’s all you can ask for quality and performance. Great job sir keep ‘em coming.

Interesting video but not truly representative of the two detectors. I took the Legend, the Equinox, the Simplex+ and the Deus II out and did some similar testing with targets on the top of the ground (which I never feel replicates what you run into out in the field). For the iron, I took a small wrench similar to what you used, a rusted ring about 2 inches in diameter, a lump of rusted iron and a piece of flat rusted stock about 1/8" thick and 4 inches long. All of the iron was stuff I had dug with various detectors recently. The coins were a nickel (mid-conductor) and a quarter (high conductor). What became apparent was that the size of the iron piece played a factor in how each responded. Could I duplicate your results . . . to some degree but a normal sweep speed actually caught your attention with a response that would have someone interrogate the area and separate the signals. As I put the solid chunk down, the Equinox regardless of the recovery speed or iron bias (FE or F2) would not see either coin. Now the Legend did not either but it shows that certain iron trash will mask good targets regardless of the settings available to adjust. It also was clear that the direction of the sweep impacted the response or lack thereof. Running the Equinox across the long direction of the metal stock missed the coins while the Legend gave a response that said there might be something here. So testing with good and bad targets can show different things depending on what is used and the direction of the swing. I will say that today I found a piece of iron with a coin impacted to the top (I will post it in the Legend groups later) so in that case, the coin was detected and the iron did not impact the response. With just a few days under your belt with the latest version of the Legend (assuming you updated it to V1.03), getting used to the nuances will take time . . . I have been out the last three days with mine and am still getting my head around what it is telling me and what the optimal settings are for different conditions.
Hey Andy. Thx for the info. I tried many different situations with iron yesterday and today. I have been testing and trying every situation. Some iron is definitely more difficult than others. I do not have it on video but all the the deep iron i have in my garden gives a nice signal on the Legend and FerroCheck. I have noticed when getting a nice signal the FerroCheck usually sides with the tone. I have had a couple instances where a good tone on iron also aligned with the inner workings of the FerroCheck and gave a nice display on the ferrous side. Like stated in the manual it is mostly for shallow targets and a slower sweep is recommended. The Equinox will mask as well. Although the demo i showed today inwas able to get all the way up to F2 6 and hit the nickel. The dime was masked at F2 6. Both were able to separate at F2 4 nicely. I have more situations to test but i feel the prototype was separating better. Maybe the new M1 and M2 is the difference. Each rusted iron situation i have tested the Equinox was able to outperform even at a lower recovery speed. I am sure there will be plenty of updates down the line. thx Mike

Is recovery speed 10 quick or slow on the Legend. If it is quick you need to swing quick. You need to match the swing speed with the recovery speed. Low recovery = slow swing fast recovery = fast swing. Never swing slow on a fast recovery.
@@IffySignals So swing has to be quick. These are motion machines not static like the older machines. So the coil needs to move. Look at how quickly Paystreak swings the D1. There is a sweet spot for every recovery setting on how quickly you swing. Swing too slow and deeper targets will not register and separation may not work. For separation the recovery has to be just right and the sensitivity is critical. The recovery, swing speed and sensitivity need to be correct. I have a target in my garden which will not register at all if the sensitivity is too high. The main critical things are recovery, sensitivity, swing speed, coil height, mode. Low and slow does not apply unless low recovery speed is selected. 👍

Wow, I had way higher hopes for this. Reactivity maxed out and it still had severe iron masking with an air test of all things!! At only an inch or two?! Add ground halo effect and who knows how far out that would mask. I've done similar tests with a bounty hunter LRP and it was way better than that. Hope they get this squared away.

I'm TOTALLY bias... And I ONLY have a SIMPLEX and sniper coil that I hunt with... It would easily detect those... And WITHOUT knowing or having a legend... I'm just saying... My SIMPLEX and sniper coil would EASILY pick those up... Something isn't known yet about the LEGEND. It can't be that bad... MAYBE it is... But imo sometime needs to be figured out... You folks with the Simplex, try to look at the Legend as a Simplex on Steroids. It opens a whole new world of capabilities you have never envisioned in the single-frequency world. This machine has made advanced SMF available for under $700.00 - That is market changing. Iffy Signals (Mike?), has done an outstanding job of illustrating what the Legend can do. Hats Off!

Had the Legend out relic hunting this weekend in an area littered with iron and only dug one twisted, rusted piece. Listen to the response and interrogate in multiple directions to help avoid wasted digging

The smaller coil should do better. I only have the 11” so it was 11 vs 11

Tim, I'm with you. This isn't making any sense. Something is wrong here. From what we're seeing now, the results are worse than previous demonstrations from testers.

@@johnbriggs5250 The test that Dilek shows is not of the 'down the barrel' lateral profile type. The test I saw performed was of a vertical profile nail/coin test on the same plain ( not with raised iron, such as occurs in all sites). The tester swings over a coin from left to right with the nail sited vertically to the tester, above the coin. Any DD coil passes this simple test. Either the tester didn't perform the test in SMF like Iffy Signals did, failed to perform a raised nail test, or he tried it, realised it was a fail, and didn't want to upset the 'apple-cart'? Either way, it is the proficiency of the tester/s that makes, or breaks, a manufacturers reputation, in my op..
Hi Iffy! Have you ever tried to pump the coil over big iron? When I do that with my Simplex and other machines, it sometimes gives a grunty sound instead of a big clear sound like we generally hear when doing a normal swing. How does the Legend react when you pump its coil over big iron? Will it sound iron or clear high signal?
Hey Jimmy, i just went out to try that. Both ways it gives a solid 26 on the ID and All Non Ferrous on the FerroCheck. Tried mode multi 1 and Multi 2.

That is disturbing! To not even see the dime. Any experienced detector knows one of our biggest challenges is how much to discriminate against iron/ aluminum junk and risk losing nickels, gold rings etc… it takes time knowing our machines to get good at it! But to not separate a totally different material as in this example with the dime?? Huh 🤔 Now I’m torn…. Thank you for this test

nicely done comparison vid. How does the Legend do if you run it with normal tones. Any difference in reporting? As a nokta/makro user I prob wouldn't have dug the buried iron target you have. Seemed to be showing plenty of feed back that it was large iron.
Hey Flyrock, these are the only tones. Just square audio. I was not getting anything from the tones. The FerroCheck did give me a little info on the Ferrous side but nothing to stop me from digging.

I have the 800 almost ordered or pre-ordered the legend to compare, but I am glad I decided to wait. The package with the 6-in coil is now re-tempting me. I have a 6-in coil for the Equinox and it's become a go-to in a few situations.

This is weird because on the prototype models I saw people doing the nail board test and it performed fantastic. Of course the nail board test still has all the iron at the same level. I also wonder if a lot of this is due to coil design technology. Too wide of a detection zone causing an inability to see closely placed targets etc, even with high recovery speed. This is also why I hate not having a pitch tones option, that alone can usually tell if something is iron or masking. Square tones are great for making targets apparent but they lack information.
Agree Bill. My favorite is probably square tones but yes lacks info on every machine.

Depends on where you hunt. Im sure the Legend will have software updates and actually has more features than the 600.
I would go to the 800 and skip the 600

I ordered a equinox 800 a few days ago it arrives tomorrow. I'm new to detecting. From what I've seen on a lot of TH-cam videos ot seems to be the best over all detector for the money. For beaches parks nugget hunting in the deserts and streams etc. In your professional opinion what do you think is the best over all detector for relics coins and nugget?

Ya, but look at the anfibio..they have had NOTHING BUT COMPLAINTS about the overload on it..they just released an update and didnt or COULDNT fix that!!
Well, I know my Simplex won't pass that test either but this was supposed to be a big upgrade from the simplex and at least a match for the equinox. But you did say that you thought that this model sounded a little sparkier than the Prototype you tested before and maybe they change the recovery speed on the final version just a little to give it more depth in exchange for recovery. That would explain why it wasn't able to hit the dime this time but on the Prototype test I saw tested before it did better than the equinox.

Ken, something has happened. There's night and day now since Nokta took the detectors back for hardware and software updates. Earlier tester results were much different especially on the nail board test.

Hey Jon, for the Legend the only other one I know is Andy O’Neil at We Dig Metal Detectors. He is also the service center. I tested the Legend during development. I have not been part of any update testing for it.
Interesting tests, well your showing me that the legend is really not as good as the Nox. How do you explain the fact that both units hit the coin with the buried washer. What are the buried depths on that test. Can you give me more information on your bury criteria of the targets? A fair test though, it did open my eyes a bit.
Hey John, there is no coin buried with the iron washer.. there is a target on the side. Not sure what it is. Its a natural target that i haven’t dug. The iron washer is at 4-5” inches.

I'd really like to see how it is against the Simplex as far as iron/target separation. Maybe switch from multiple to single on the Legend and see the difference? I had a friend with a nox 800 next to me with my simplex and he went over a target that sounded just like a token that I had found moments before. He had me swing over it with my Simplex and all I heard was iron, but the nox had a clean signal. He dug up an iron blob of crap. It was all iron on the simplex and I would not have dug it up. My $300 machine knew it was iron that his $1,000 machine thought was a great target
Hey WD, i do not have a simplex but have tried all the single frequencies in park, field. The singles like the deep iron even more. I also tried Beach W and D.. no go.
@@IffySignals oh wow! I feel Deep iron can be tough on almost any machine though. I'm truly happy with my simplex, but I just WANT the Legend. I guess more so for emi/noise canceling. I miss a lot on one of my farm permissions because of their electric fences. I have to stay 25-35 ft away or so or the machine gets a lot of interference. I can still swing slowly but false a lot and definitely affects the performance.

I have a simplex and I know it will be much better on the beach. It’s a win all the way around for me. I’m sure the updates to come will make this a really good detector and that’s all you can ask for quality and performance. Great job sir keep ‘em coming.
I have a Simplex + running it on 2.77 with SP28 Coil. I found Park 1, best with iron volume turned off , this way you dont get any iron buzz on small hammered silver coins and small gold. on deep iron that give a nice tone just check by bobbing the coin over the target and see if you get a iron buzz, another way is to move the tip of the coil in and out over the target if its iron you should hear that buzz. ; -)
Interesting video but not truly representative of the two detectors. I took the Legend, the Equinox, the Simplex+ and the Deus II out and did some similar testing with targets on the top of the ground (which I never feel replicates what you run into out in the field). For the iron, I took a small wrench similar to what you used, a rusted ring about 2 inches in diameter, a lump of rusted iron and a piece of flat rusted stock about 1/8" thick and 4 inches long. All of the iron was stuff I had dug with various detectors recently. The coins were a nickel (mid-conductor) and a quarter (high conductor). What became apparent was that the size of the iron piece played a factor in how each responded. Could I duplicate your results . . . to some degree but a normal sweep speed actually caught your attention with a response that would have someone interrogate the area and separate the signals. As I put the solid chunk down, the Equinox regardless of the recovery speed or iron bias (FE or F2) would not see either coin. Now the Legend did not either but it shows that certain iron trash will mask good targets regardless of the settings available to adjust. It also was clear that the direction of the sweep impacted the response or lack thereof. Running the Equinox across the long direction of the metal stock missed the coins while the Legend gave a response that said there might be something here. So testing with good and bad targets can show different things depending on what is used and the direction of the swing. I will say that today I found a piece of iron with a coin impacted to the top (I will post it in the Legend groups later) so in that case, the coin was detected and the iron did not impact the response. With just a few days under your belt with the latest version of the Legend (assuming you updated it to V1.03), getting used to the nuances will take time . . . I have been out the last three days with mine and am still getting my head around what it is telling me and what the optimal settings are for different conditions.
Hey Andy. Thx for the info. I tried many different situations with iron yesterday and today. I have been testing and trying every situation. Some iron is definitely more difficult than others. I do not have it on video but all the the deep iron i have in my garden gives a nice signal on the Legend and FerroCheck. I have noticed when getting a nice signal the FerroCheck usually sides with the tone. I have had a couple instances where a good tone on iron also aligned with the inner workings of the FerroCheck and gave a nice display on the ferrous side. Like stated in the manual it is mostly for shallow targets and a slower sweep is recommended. The Equinox will mask as well. Although the demo i showed today inwas able to get all the way up to F2 6 and hit the nickel. The dime was masked at F2 6. Both were able to separate at F2 4 nicely. I have more situations to test but i feel the prototype was separating better. Maybe the new M1 and M2 is the difference. Each rusted iron situation i have tested the Equinox was able to outperform even at a lower recovery speed. I am sure there will be plenty of updates down the line. thx Mike

Is recovery speed 10 quick or slow on the Legend. If it is quick you need to swing quick. You need to match the swing speed with the recovery speed. Low recovery = slow swing fast recovery = fast swing. Never swing slow on a fast recovery.

@@IffySignals So swing has to be quick. These are motion machines not static like the older machines. So the coil needs to move. Look at how quickly Paystreak swings the D1. There is a sweet spot for every recovery setting on how quickly you swing. Swing too slow and deeper targets will not register and separation may not work. For separation the recovery has to be just right and the sensitivity is critical. The recovery, swing speed and sensitivity need to be correct. I have a target in my garden which will not register at all if the sensitivity is too high. The main critical things are recovery, sensitivity, swing speed, coil height, mode. Low and slow does not apply unless low recovery speed is selected. 👍

Wow, I had way higher hopes for this. Reactivity maxed out and it still had severe iron masking with an air test of all things!! At only an inch or two?! Add ground halo effect and who knows how far out that would mask. I've done similar tests with a bounty hunter LRP and it was way better than that. Hope they get this squared away.

I'm TOTALLY bias... And I ONLY have a SIMPLEX and sniper coil that I hunt with... It would easily detect those... And WITHOUT knowing or having a legend... I'm just saying... My SIMPLEX and sniper coil would EASILY pick those up... Something isn't known yet about the LEGEND. It can't be that bad... MAYBE it is... But imo sometime needs to be figured out... The demo was to show even with low Iron bias it can still separate and distinguish large iron.

You folks with the Simplex, try to look at the Legend as a Simplex on Steroids. It opens a whole new world of capabilities you have never envisioned in the single-frequency world. Had the Legend out relic hunting this weekend in an area littered with iron and only dug one twisted, rusted piece. Listen to the response and interrogate in multiple directions to help avoid wasted digging
the legend is far from a legend thats a high cunductive target very simple test it should hit easy wow,,,,, i wont be buying it ill stay with the nox
