Butch McDade , the Ace's gifted drummer wrote this touchingly beautiful song. Cancer took Butch but he left this behind for all of us. Russell sings it with meaning. Thank you Butch.
I started singing this song 40 years at the Tower Club. Gary liked it too. Gary didn't sing on a song lest he liked it. Jay the R&R drummer liked it too as did Jimmy on steel. I know Bill Bagby liked it!
Awesome guys! The best thing about this genre of music is it's ability to tell a story in a believable voice and emotion. No other form delivers it as real as this anywhere and that along with the fantastic organic instruments and playing style makes it truly timeless!
These need to be put on Spotify
I love the song the end is not in sight such a simple song but seads so much ❤
Wow. RUSSELL RIP brother ❤️ what a moving song. That lonesome fiddle was so deep on this. One of best Fiddle leads and endings I have ever heard 🇺🇸

Beautiful song
Great song, by Russell. I've just read that he passed away last year from cancer. What a sad loss, from one of my all time favourite country singers.
Time makes it no easier ....the loss of Russell... Butch...
such talents...and beautiful people... ..
Such sad losses. One of the greatest bands ever.
True Americana music, absolute masterpiece.
Russell, beautiful as always.
The fiddler is Gene Elders. He spent 10 years with George Strait's Ace in the Hole band. He also played for Lyle Lovett and Joan Baez among others.
OMG, I love this song so much. That fiddle at the end is one of the most haunting passages in country music.
touched by this for 40+ years
Rest in Peace Russell......
Butch McDade! I had the pleasure of playing bass on a lot of gigs with him on drums. A very gifted musician and GREAT drummer! RIP
Outstanding. .. no words to express the feel of the melody with the voice combination. Just give us more..
