Cheers mate, my internet access is patchy as you'd guess but i try and keep in touch when i can - getting some real cool ideas lol

What are the stated/claimed advantages of the tesla pancake coils over ferrite coils?
in Joule Thief or other applications? thanks

What happens when you use a metal plate such as iron or steel to run a simple coil to run a larger led?

thanks for the massive high volume🗣🔊 that killed my hearing!!! I was wearing headphones!!! 😱

here's a suggestion - turn it down? - i don't control your volume knob mate

Robert Murray-Smith it was down. I had no problems with other videos before yours. you volume mics gain is too high.

Robert Murray-Smith hey no worry, I wasn't being horrible to you mate, I was in a nice way saying you volume is very high. you have to understand I was half way with my volume and watching you video in bed with my wife asleep! I woke her shouting WOW!! haha.
      anyhow. thanks for understanding
      Anthony

Cool one Robert :D ...You probably already know it but if you take the LED out of the circuit, your pancake coil will ''radiate'' energy that you can pick up with other coils wirelessly. You can see it all over the place on youtube. A wirelees joule thief :)

While I appreciate your efforts, using a proper bifilar coil in a Joule thief is counter productive. In the way that you have used it, current is flowing in the same direction through both parts of the coil. You may as well use a standard configuration with a ferrite ring. Bifilar coils are best at suppressing back EMF when current is passed in opposite directions through each half of the coil. They cancel out each others' magnetic field in this configuration.

If you read Tesla's patent he specifically designed it to run the current in the same direction in both halves of the coil. The method of wiring it in the opposite direction was never mentioned or proposed by him, and obviously he tested the device before making a patent.
I don't know why people want to change his coil to do that, but it's definitely not what Tesla designed the coil to be for cancelling self-induction.

Just connect the led to the battery, will light up.
    Do not need the rest.

sure - but that's not the point of the experiment

He used 1.5V battery so it will not light up as led needs 3V. Which is the whole point of the video.
