EPIC Blue Marlin Fishing in Costa Rica

- Max and Alex left out of the marina in Golfito, Costa Rica at midnight to go fishing for blue marlin, mahi and whatever else they could find. They fished no further than 10 miles offshore for the next three days on Thumper Bluewater Expeditions. The entire first day was spent fishing for blue marlin. The crew used all different types of techniques to catch these marlin. On the first day, the crew started using live bait (bonito and small yellowfin tuna). Alex and Max both went back and forth, marlin for marlin all day long. As the afternoon came they switched up their technique and began skipping dead tunas behind the boat, along with teasers. The second day was much slowing, only jumping a few marlins but managing to get about a fifteen-pound mahi at the end of the day. On the third day, the captain decided to head further south, and in doing so the boat managed to pull a couple black marlin to the surface and Max landed one! After a few more hours Max landed another big mahi (around twenty-five pounds). Alex finished the trip off with a massive blue marlin (over 600lbs)!!

An amazing episode! Thanks so much! Blue Marlin has been #1 on my list since I was 15 years old. I'll be 60 come October and have yet to catch one. It's great to see action like this. My fiance and I are getting married in August and we will honeymoon in Costa Rica sometime next year not too far from where this was, so, here's hoping... Yeah for being what, 16ish? I’m guessing. He really knows a lot. When I was 16 I could barely catch a bass haha, and he’s out here taking down 300lb+ fish.

Watching this type of fishing is amazing...fishing these Giants is a true sport. I mean some of these Marlin are 600 lbs and up, and reeling them in takes hours....Am I the only one who roots for the fish sometimes though lol ?!?

Caught a couple blue Marlins last week biggest 300# the smallest 120# in Kona
I'll be sure & do that.........the next time I happen to have 10 grand laying around, lol. Great fishing, and gorgeous boat & scenery though.
Not a per person cost. Split the cost among 3 or 4 anglers, includes food on board for the 3 trip. Tips extra. It's a great value. I've fished Thumper 4 times. I like the three-day trip because it also gives me time to fish inshore. That too is a great fishery. Tight lines!
