I just purchased this exact radio for $88 delivered. Took about a week to arrive. Your review has helped take the mystery out of it. Very helpful! Liked and Subscribed. 73
I have one of these, it got under my recliner (where I spend all day now that I don't get around much due to disability) and the screen was shattered. So I found another on the internet and replaced it, however the touch panel cord was in the wrong place so I just went bare back with no touch screen. I guess it hasn't bothered much I have considered ordering different ones and trying them but haven't had much luck so I guess I will just play with it this way. I don't use it much since I got a malahit clone that works so much better and offers so much more for only 50 bucks more then I paid for this POS. Thanks for the video though you are showing me a few more things I can do with it should I desire more fun with it.
We will be doing a few more SDR videos soon once I can get around to them. Sorry to hear about the bad luck with the one you have. My issue with mine was that I could not update the software as, while I could get it to go into update mode, my computer would not recognize it as a hard drive so that was a failure.
Hello from country (town of less than 100 country meaning rural) Australia. Those antennas like most radio ones are I believe nickel/chrome plated over brass/copper type material. Larger outdoor antennas like discone antennas or vertical anirbamd antennas are made from aluminium and 9foot 27MHz antennas are made from stainless steel. I've just ordered one of these SDR based radios from bangood. I also have the ATS 25 max decoder, Kenwood R1000, yaesu FRG-7000, tescun radio, handheld ICOM receiver and other vintage scanners/ radios. I'm slowly building my collection as I had sold most of it a few years ago when I had lost interest in the hobby. Good review view to 👍
Regarding SMA adaptors... SMA are electrically beautiful but mechanically fragile. Big adaptors on stiff co-ax like you have can easily overstress the fragile little SMA's (or even rip them out completely). The simple solution to this is just to use a short "flexi-tail" with the SMA on one end & pl259/so239 on the other.... this way no big lever to rip the SMA out
Yes, that is my fear, very fragile. I did order a 6 foot thin wire sma to PL256 so hopefully that will keep the stress off the connector. I was led to believe it was a BNC connector in the listing which would have been nicer, I will tell you that if the SMA connector gets damaged I am already thinking of replacing with BNC as I like how easy the connection is to make and its much beefier than SMA. Thank you for the comment. Love hearing others thoughts and ideas.
A very good antenna to match to this radio is the MLA-30+ magnetic loop antenna. I have 2 with one more on the way🤣 yes I know 3 seems odd but one I am experimenting with different types of materials for loops and if larger size loops make much difference. So far my research has given be some results and as soon as the wet weather has cleared, I will be able to more tests. I have added a larger diamond loop to it using standard single strand of copper speaker wire. Not sure it had made any real difference or my length was not correct but overall db gain was not a lot but the noise level didn't really increase. The MLA-30+ outdoor box has a adjustable gain potentiometer and the inside amplialso has one, so adjust the two takes some effort as both pots are very sensitive 👍
Let me know how it goes for you. I have been looking for a good outdoor antenna that I could use to make the most out of this radio. Currently I have been using it to listen to a couple of airports around my area (within 50 or so miles from my house) and have had good results with a simple 10 meter hamstick dipole antenna about 35 feet in a tree. I have been looking for an antenna that will allow me access to more bands however. Only real issue is that whatever antenna system I use has to be stealthy as I live in an apartment complex and am not allowed to put antennas our in the open. I have a Stealth 40 meter dipole on the stockade fence and I have 3 trees that I can hide verticals in. Wish I had more options but until I purchase a house unfortunately I am limited to what I can install.
Indeed, I have one of those antenna's they work fine but I was disappointed in the type coax that comes with them, the ends keep getting damaged and I need to replace them often. Perhaps it is the rough nature of my use by letting them lay beside the recliner that has been my perch for the last 10 years since my disability got worse and cancer attacked me last Christmas. Funny thing, the damn piece of plastic pipe I used to elevate the antenna portion cost more then the antenna kit here in very rural South Dakota where everything comes to the store via truck.
I Have This Clone And I Find The AGC Really Helpful And It Works Great. This radio has received some negative feedback in the past, but considering its price-selling for only around 83 bucks on -it's important to recognize that it's not a Rolls Royce of radios. Nevertheless, the manufacturer has made commendable efforts. Where else can you find a portable radio that allows listening to AM with over 6k bandwidth (with other nice features) at this price point? It's refreshing to see an unbiased, detailed, and overall rather positive review of it 👍🏻.
@@amateurishadventures -As a happy owner of an RSP1 SDR clone worth of 15 bucks, I would consider buying this DeepSDR clone as a huge upgrade 😄! Jokes aside,- it looks like a solid device which should perform very well (with a set of decent antennas + additional hardware filtering, if necessary), so I have it in my wishlist. ✨ Thanks!
Correct. It is the clone of the electech deep sdr. I did mention in the video that it was a clone, also stated that I was not able to get it connected to a computer.
Biggest issue I have with memories is that it seems if you hold in the encoder button for more than a second it stores that frequency which has become something of an annoyance to me recently. I keep overwriting my frequencies.

Sure. If you have the proper decoder on your computer or tablet it will be able to decode it. I use p25 on my computer to pull in some of the local police.
Very helpful. I just received mine and was trying to figure it all out. Thank you. The connectors are not 256 , you must mean male PL259 and female is SO239. I agree, the BNC would have been so much better. :) de VK1DON
Yes thats what i meant was pl259. Thank you. I cannot understand for thr life of me why they didnt use bnc. Still a nice little receiver. Hope you enjoy it.

Happy to hear your enjoying your radio. I still have a lot of fun with mine.

Personally I love this radio. Sure it has its issues but all in all for the price, I love it.

Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and for the positive feedback.
Thanks for the vid, I just ordered one 👍👍
Awesome. I hope you enjoy it. Works great minus the couple limitations explained in the video. I use mine almost daily.
Enjoyes Thanks
How about the noise reduction filters?
I've been an amateur radio operator for over 30 years and I've never heard of nor seen a PL-256 connector.
Any way to clear those memory channels or overide a memory
Apparently these are copy/clones.
Wish I’d known.
Real one has a bnc on left side
Correct. It is the clone of the electech deep sdr. I did mention in the video that it was a clone, also stated that I was not able to get it connected to a computer.
I was wondering that also Mike
I did discover that memories 1-25 cannot be changed but 26-99 can.

I tried 5 different cables. Still no dice.
does this receive p25 like trunked radio like a computer sdr will?
Sure. If you have the proper decoder on your computer or tablet it will be able to decode it. I use p25 on my computer to pull in some of the local police.
@@amateurishadventures Thanks for the reply. Any reason to get one other than the screen if I already have an rtl-sdr? Nice interface
Negative. You have a better reciever. The waterfall is nice, but honestly, I have seen better displays.
@@amateurishadventures Thanks for the reply
Thanks for watching the video
Music is a tad loud in the beginning, can skip to 1:00 where the intro ends and there's no music
Yes, thank you for that. I will try harder next video that I use the intro.
From reset??
I am unsure what you are asking.

Bring back the amateur radio videos!
Don't worry, we got a couple videos about HTs coming up very soon 😉
Looking forword to some more HF
We will have HF videos very shortly. I am in the process of working on one for you.
Mmm😮😮😮
Music too loud. Makes your great content hard to hear!
I will keep this in mind for the next video. Thank you.
Very helpful. I just received mine and was trying to figure it all out. Thank you.
