John, once again, great work. Your instructional techniques is excellent, works well and easy to follow. If I want a clear window in a frame I just cut the shape from the clear plastic on a miniature blister packet. Plenty lying around as I never throw them away. 👏👏👏

We play on a grid for interiors, but for large scale exteriors use rulers so there aren't grid lines running across a big ole field. I'm in the middle of like 12 projects right now but I hoe to download and try out some of your stencils soon; it's clear you put a TON of work into the planning phases- you're definitely an asset to the community!
I use the clear plastic from minis or other products that have it like kids toys packaging. I also found if you take some wax paper and use your glue gun to smear some glue on the inside it makes a pretty good glazed glass effect with an led on the inside of the building.
I downloaded the blue prints...tavern is built and ready for shingles windows and doors..so far so good...having lots of fun with this thank you for sharing!

We always use some sort of grid, whether it be squares or hexes. For indoor objects we typically use squares because it fits well, for outdoors we uses hexes to give more flexibility.
Walmart also sells plastic canvas sheets in several sizes of sheet and different grid sizes. For my projects, when I make windows I use the heavy clear packaging plastic for products in stores.
For *glass* one thing you can do is to run a thermo laminating pouch (the plastic sleeve) without anything in it trough the laminator, you'll get an excellent sheet of plastic that holds and cuts very well and is very sturdy and transparent!

@@TabletopWitchCRAFT I'm sorry. Let me try this again. Once you have the canvas in place within the window frame, coat the back of it with either Tacky Glue or Mod Podge. Once dry, you will have a translucent window. If you want to stick a flickering tea light in the build, you should get a pretty convincing glow through the window. You could always tint the Mod Podge with either yellow paint or yellow ink before applying it to the window and the effect should be even better. Hope this makes more sense.

Truthfully what I'd like to create is my fantasy kingdom in my mind which is a concentric castle with an upper and lower bailey main castle (hotel/event venue/restaurant/apartments with a park in the inner courtyard) and lower bailey consisting of a village with a main st leading to the castle (village would have restaurants hotels entertainment shopping and apartments) and between the inner and outer curtain wall public parking. Outside the outer curtain wall park like terrain. It's basically my "if I win millions in the lotto this is what I wanna do" plan but the scale of it is massive so I have no idea if modeling that is even feasible without millions of dollars lol

If you use stiffer cardboard to trace your pattern, you can lay it on top of the foam when you cut. The wire will not cut through and you will get a perfect result every time. Good if you need several identical pieces
That's a good tip and does work although you have to keep the heat pretty low on the Proxxon and move slow. If you push the wire too hard up against the cardboard the wire will cut at an angle underneath the cardboard and your edges will be at an angle.
Amazing work. You should do a viking boat , and a dragon skull island with a dragon cave. It is D&D after all. Always thought it should expand past land. Then of course you need the dragon .
I use true movement for my group. It's led to some interesting scenarios and also a few dog piles. Oh and for glass I've been using granny grating and spare top loader sleeves for magic.

I use a hidden grid on my wood floors i cut in 1/2 inch wide planks and add nail holes in the one inch spacing so you have a grid but it is not a solid line

For glass it depends on what I'm going for. Stained glass I use copper wire and led solder to get the shapes/murals I want as well as connecting all the wires together permanently. Then for the glass part of it I use the craft plastic paint like stuff that is translucent. It gives a more realistic old glass look as it can be textured easily by waiting a little bit and drag a brush or toothpick through it. For pained glass I use the clear plastic like craft like paint and either leave it smooth or texture it depending on what I am making them for. Yes they take time but I think they look better then using colored/translucent plastic for the glass. Also you can use a central light in a building and you don't have to have a bunch of LEDs of different colors or have something in the windows to defuse the light from close up LEDs. This also gives a more realistic look to the light coming through the windows as some will be brighter then others depending on how far away they are from the light source. For example if there's only candles on a table then there wouldn't be much light seen through a window that is far away for them or high up and so on. I did a few tests years back and used different light sources and their placement to windows and tried to replicate that in my builds. You would be surprised how dim candles, fireplace fires and so on are compared to modern lights and how dim they look through windows.
I did copy indeed the plans, and plan to adapt them for a "medieval" RPG game with 1/72 scale figures. They'll serve as "decoration", and "interior" play won't of course be possible I plan to also build other medieval houses from several other sources of inspiration to go with it. Also ,I won't build it from XPS foam but from Styrodur I find by a german supplier for artists and architects.It's easier to carve than XPS and also retains the shape better and also takes paint better than XPS. The big advantage though is that I can find sheets in several thicknesses from 1 mm to 15 or 20 mm or even thicker... easier for me to work as I mainly work in 1/72-1/76 scale and 1/35 scale militaria & railway models, and sometimes do some wargame in 1/72 scale (that's why I indeed downloaded your plans for)
On my first house build i took a lot of matches, cut off the sulfur and then used super glue to make a 3 by 3 grid (frame) for the window. It was a lot of work but looked good.

Hi Richard, thank you for supporting the channel on Patreon! To answer your question regarding the magnets...I hot glue one magnet into place then once the glue has hardened I put a small dab of paint on the magnet and press it to the opposing piece of the craft. It will leave a mark on the foam or whatever you're gluing it to in the perfect spot.
This is really cool! I wonder is there a way to make the blue prints as cut files for silhouette and cricut machines, I know I can cut craft wood with my machine. 🤔
Just downloaded the planes , I am more of the person who likes the measurements also . It's just nice to look over at them and reassure myself that I have the right measurement. But this is the build for the weekend. Were did you find 11x17 paper to fit a home printer , if you don't mind me asking?
I get my paper from the big box stores. If you can't find it or you don't have a printer that can print 11"x17" try a local copy/print shop. I try my hardest to keep the paper size as small as possible for everyone... I aim for 8.5"x11"... sometimes it's just not possible. David Oxley Hi David, there are many things you can use. I’ve used pieces of CD cases, UV Resin, Liquid Effect by Vallejo (not the best option), you can paint the foam black and leave it dark behind the glass or print off a picture of stained glass and put that behind the window, or you can put light in the building. Whatever you can imagine. Hope this helps, and enjoy the ride!
I don’t use grid for my terrain pieces since I also use them for other games. I did download the plans but it printed small, like I’m not sure if it’s 25% smaller than intended so I’ve been winging it so far
Hi, I bought the plans today. I have just one Problem, here in Europe we don’t use 11”x17” paper. I looked into my printer program and it says I can print it 97%. Can this work also?
As long as they are all scaled the same then yes. It will just be 3% smaller. You can always print it to scale and tape multiple pages together! Enjoy the build :)
where do you get the texture rollers? and what type of foam and insulation do you use? I've looked in the description, I can't find it though. GREAT BUILDS by the way, the whole group love the look. I really want to try some builds out

I really love your work! i do have a question about your designs though, how to you make them? im very interested in designing my own buildings someday but cannot find a good program to draw them out.
What size is the base? Assembled, my walls are 8" x 7 1/8" and are too large for the base. I have this printed on 8.5 x 11 paper, 4 sheets taped together. I'm using 1/2" foam.
I'm pretty sure it was printed to scale but I must have messed up. My base is the correct size, my left and right walls look longer than what you glue together. 6" x 2 1/2". Which when adding two walls of 1/2" thickness to the front and back, there is the overhang. I'll start at the beginning and print the plans again. Thanks for taking the time to respond to the umpteenth "it doesn't fit!" comment.
I think the Thanksgiving holiday is setting them back a day or two on approval at DriveThruRPG. It is pending approval and should be available this upcoming week.
Great build! but i would still like to know all the messurments, since it seems the messurmetns are abit of and its easy to make the wrong size when working from a paper. for some reason my stuff don´t really fit. it made it jsut abit harder to follow is all. other than that its a really cool build. just my suggestions =)
Viktor Gustafsson Hi Victor, I did the entire build off the plans as well. You can measure off the plans and/or cut the plans and trace out your cuts to ensure they are correct before moving on to the next step. The plans would be quite cluttered if I put dimensions for every cut.

Printed up the plans from DriveThru RPG but having a Devil of a time printing them on 8x11 (I can shrink them to fit but to get the proper dimensions I can’t figure out how to split the image on multiple pieces of paper.)
It's meant to be printed on 11"x17" paper. Download the file and take it to a local print shop. Don't use the "shrink to fit" feature... it'll be all wonky.
Im using your techniques to build a haunted doll house for my little friends for Halloween. We normally do it up big but trick or treat has been canceled because of covid this year

I am just getting into the craft and i am going to do this one as my first project. I have a question. what size do you print it on? Regular copy paper 8 1/2 x11 or is it a different size. I have a home printer. Can I use it?
Nice Michael, that'll be a great first project. These plans are for 11"x17" paper in Layout format. You can print them on 8.5" x 11" you'll just have to cut and piece the plans together.. not a big issue. Make sure you select "Print to Scale" and NOT "Fit to Sheet".
I bought the plans for this but how can I get it to print in actual size? I don't mind if it makes it on several sheets of paper but Having it done at a print shop is costly. I love your work and my hubby is busy working on some of your other builds.
Hi There Redd. When you go to print the plans, just print "Actual Size" and they will come out to scale. They are scaled for 11"x17" paper or 24"x36" paper.

I downloaded the plans today. Is the foam you are using predominately 1/2 in? The plans show around 3/8 for the foundation of each floor but that may very well be a printing scale issue on my end. Thank you for these plans and tutorials! They make larger projects like this much more approachable. 📐🤓

Hi,quick question.....I've a few builds I've finished making but I'd like to magnetize them like you do with yours any tips on how to line the magnets up to each other.........ps love your vids that much I've become a patreon.
Hi Richard, thank you for supporting the channel on Patreon! To answer your question regarding the magnets...I hot glue one magnet into place then once the glue has hardened I put a small dab of paint on the magnet and press it to the opposing piece of the craft. It will leave a mark on the foam or whatever you're gluing it to in the perfect spot.

, I am more of the person who likes the measurements also . It's just nice to look over at them and reassure myself that I have the right measurement. But this is the build for the weekend. Were did you find 11x17 paper to fit a home printer , if you don't mind me asking?
I get my paper from the big box stores. If you can't find it or you don't have a printer that can print 11"x17" try a local copy/print shop. I try my hardest to keep the paper size as small as possible for everyone... I aim for 8.5"x11"... sometimes it's just not possible. David Oxley Hi David, there are many things you can use. I’ve used pieces of CD cases, UV Resin, Liquid Effect by Vallejo (not the best option), you can paint the foam black and leave it dark behind the glass or print off a picture of stained glass and put that behind the window, or you can put light in the building. Whatever you can imagine. Hope this helps, and enjoy the ride!
I don’t use grid for my terrain pieces since I also use them for other games. I did download the plans but it printed small, like I’m not sure if it’s 25% smaller than intended so I’ve been winging it so far
When you print it off make sure you choose "Print to Scale" That should do it for you.

Hi, I bought the plans today. I have just one Problem, here in Europe we don’t use 11”x17” paper. I looked into my printer program and it says I can print it 97%. Can this work also?
As long as they are all scaled the same then yes. It will just be 3% smaller. You can always print it to scale and tape multiple pages together! Enjoy the build :)
where do you get the texture rollers? and what type of foam and insulation do you use? I've looked in the description, I can't find it though. GREAT BUILDS by the way, the whole group love the look. I really want to try some builds out

I really love your work! i do have a question about your designs though, how to you make them? im very interested in designing my own buildings someday but cannot find a good program to draw them out.
Thank you :) You really can use any CAD software out there. I'd recommend starting with some of the free ones and go from there.
For glass, I just reuse the clear part of some Funko Pop packaging. Or any-other toy packaging.

What size is the base? Assembled, my walls are 8" x 7 1/8" and are too large for the base. I have this printed on 8.5 x 11 paper, 4 sheets taped together. I'm using 1/2" foam.
When you printed this off, did you print to fit or print to scale? You want to print to scale. The base is 8.25" x 6.25".
I'm pretty sure it was printed to scale but I must have messed up. My base is the correct size, my left and right walls look longer than what you glue together. 6" x 2 1/2". Which when adding two walls of 1/2" thickness to the front and back, there is the overhang. I'll start at the beginning and print the plans again. Thanks for taking the time to respond to the umpteenth "it doesn't fit!" comment.

Great build! but i would still like to know all the messurments, since it seems the messurmetns are abit of and its easy to make the wrong size when working from a paper. for some reason my stuff don´t really fit. it made it jsut abit harder to follow is all. other than that its a really cool build. just my suggestions =)
Viktor Gustafsson Hi Victor, I did the entire build off the plans as well. You can measure off the plans and/or cut the plans and trace out your cuts to ensure they are correct before moving on to the next step. The plans would be quite cluttered if I put dimensions for every cut.

Printed up the plans from DriveThru RPG but having a Devil of a time printing them on 8x11 (I can shrink them to fit but to get the proper dimensions I can’t figure out how to split the image on multiple pieces of paper.)
It's meant to be printed on 11"x17" paper. Download the file and take it to a local print shop. Don't use the "shrink to fit" feature... it'll be all wonky.

I am just getting into the craft and i am going to do this one as my first project. I have a question. what size do you print it on? Regular copy paper 8 1/2 x11 or is it a different size. I have a home printer. Can I use it?
Nice Michael, that'll be a great first project. These plans are for 11"x17" paper in Layout format. You can print them on 8.5" x 11" you'll just have to cut and piece the plans together.. not a big issue. Make sure you select "Print to Scale" and NOT "Fit to Sheet".

I bought the plans for this but how can I get it to print in actual size? I don't mind if it makes it on several sheets of paper but Having it done at a print shop is costly. I love your work and my hubby is busy working on some of your other builds.
Hi There Redd. When you go to print the plans, just print "Actual Size" and they will come out to scale. They are scaled for 11"x17" paper or 24"x36" paper.

@@TabletopWitchCRAFT budget and no great place to use as a workspace is what's holding me back. Our house is a mess and even the table I set up specifically for D&D has a whole bunch of stuff covering it to keep it out of reach of the animals.

I downloaded the plans today. Is the foam you are using predominately 1/2 in? The plans show around 3/8 for the foundation of each floor but that may very well be a printing scale issue on my end. Thank you for these plans and tutorials! They make larger projects like this much more approachable. 📐🤓
