I know what you mean. Long gone are the days of the old trading post newspaper where you could pick up a Charger or Drifter panelvan for a grand or two. Now they're worth their weight in gold.
Hi everyone. I hope you enjoy this episode of a major project Fletch undertook to make his version of a GT style spec Chrysler CM Regal sedan. Complete with a 360 high output V8 and a four speed floor shift manual. Hope you enjoy. Please Like, Comment, Share and Subscribe for more old car videos. 👍
Lovely car Fletch. Thanks Mark for showing it. I'll regret never having a valiant while I lived in Perth. I came close, but all I could afford was an 81 Sigma. Smooth styling on that CM. Just lovely!
I remember when you could buy them cheap. My brother had a VG 318 VIP and a VK 4 litre Ranger that was mint. They were cheap cars to buy then. I’d like that VIP now.
Another one of my faves. It's a great car - and is just as good now 21 years on after the build. Fantastic car. Thank you for featuring it Mark. Cheers 👍
Great video. I also own a CM. on my channel. At first I thought this was the same colour as mine but no. Had mine about 7 years now. Love it. Great cruisers and gets a lot of attention when we’re out in it. Fully sik bro 🤘
Up here in the USA, we have Plymouth Valiant and Buick Regal. Crazy how the names of cars are completely different. Would love to have one of those 6cyl Hemi.
Yes. It is interesting re the different names used in each country - sometimes for the exact same car ala Holden Commodore, Buick Regal and Opel Omega. Thanks for the comments and please Subscribe for more old car videos and check out the other Mopar episodes on the channel 👍
You should have a parallel brake cylinder Reservoir on that installation, the angled one that you are running is suited to a firewall that isn't vertical. Once again it's a BONNET not a hood. Like our cars have number plates not licence plates😉
My beloved 2002 WRX was last dyno tuned at 234KW and 378NM at the wheels. It would be an interesting battle between the 360 and the WRX but I no longer have it. Nice car Fletch.
Wow it has Mitsubishi plates on it! Mitstubishi had the Sigma and replaced by the early Magna which was still smallish and took them about 10 years to bring a more proportionally "Australian size car"... (Unless you count the mid 80's Magna wagon which you've got on the channel and believe you've saved it from crusher...?)
Yes, the Mitsubishi plates are all part of the Chrysler history whereby during the bankruptcy stage in the USA they had to sell off assets including their military division that made the Abrams tanks.
I owned a CL SE Regal in 85 86 . 318 V8 with red trim auto floor shift . I’d reckon it was the most luxurious valiant made better then the C/C it had the 14 x7 alloys I had 235 tyres on it an twin system An a 350 Holley. Sold it an brought a CL 4 speed 318 charger . Long story it was done into a 340 motor even the original 340 Australia carb an valley extractors balanced an blue printed she pull 55 mph in first 85 mph 2nd 110 in third top 🤔it would bet my mates E38 to 80 mph .
Thanks Brian and Glenda. The SE Regal sounds nice as does the tough CL Charger. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comments. Please check put the other episodes. 👍
Hi Guys, looks very nice in its new color, being a richer more vibrant color than yellow, it makes the chrome trim and alloy wheels pop. Given how popular local Aussie GT 4 doors were at the time I always felt it strange Chrysler Aust's marketing dept did not just walk to the parts bin and create one. With a longer wheelbase than their Charger's, dynamically the 4 door would have handled better straight out of the "packet". One of Mark Behr & my mates , Peter used to have an ex-police Charger and that was twitchy with the short wheelbase & powerful engine, whereas my dad's original 1971 CH Chrysler by Chrysler rare 2 door coupe with its longer 115" wheelbase & powerful 360ci v8 was actually pleasant and predictable to drive, and with a 115" wheelbase it was a mere 2" shorter than Fords 117" '65 Galaxie coupes the all-time Nascar race record holder 48 wins out of 52 starts in 1965 and a win every race in 1966 until management at Ford decided to race the new bigger model year '67 Mustangs at the 37th out of 52 races then they lost every following race but they were still competition winners as no other car brand came close to 36 out of 52 race wins. It was also good to see the pretty '68 "green hornet's" Imperial out and driving also a very pretty car in that nice color green and very nicely made too.
I grew up with the Chrysler Valiant CLs, 6s and 8s, always wanted the CM grille, turned 40 and wanted another one, HOLY HECK the price for one now, long story short couldn't afford one so brought an 09 Chrysler 300c SRT8 because it was cheaper 😆
First Mitsubishi era CM I've seen with a V8 and a 360 to boot! I would personally prefer if it had the missing CM embellishments like the chrome border for the vinyl roof at the back they all recieved, gunmetal grey rear garnish areas, broad rubber rub strips on the sides and gunmetal grey around the headlights which have the car a more beastly look.
I’m going to have to disagree - I quite like the lack of accent colour around the tail lights and boot panel. Gives it more of an 80s-90s colour coded look.
Had yard full of these late 80s. Drove em for 25yrs, loved em. Wrecked em all: LeBaron, cop, SE, GLX…Oh for the 80s 90s cheap free Valiants for everyone

What a great CM Valiant - interesting paint colour and 260 Kw. Always great to see a sympathetic restoration.
Agree . Vermillion Fire (Ford GT colour) that definitely suits it. Fletch certainly did a good job on this car.
