Mother of teen activist 'goes berserk' after daughter is exposed as 'massive hypocrite'

  • News Corp columnist David Penberthy says the mother of a teenage climate activist from New Zealand has hit out at a radio host after an interview.
Izzy Cook, a 16-year-old schoolgirl, spoke to NewstalkZB host Heather du Plessis-Allan and said flights to Fiji were not necessary - but when probed, Ms Cook admitted she had been to Fiji just months prior.
“I actually thought the interviewer was being quite, sort of, almost maternal, like she was trying to laugh about it without crucifying this poor kid who clearly is a massive hypocrite,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“Her mother has gone berserk and has now accused the radio station of cruelty and said ‘how dare my daughter be treated like that’."
Mr Penberthy said if Ms Cook is going to be a “child prodigy” who wants to tell others how to live, it does “invite a degree of scrutiny”.
“The fact that her mother belatedly turned to some kind of crazed helicopter parent,” he said.

The reality is that the mother is mad because SHE was exposed as a hypocrite. Her daughter stepped into the adult world and just learned a lesson. The host was perfectly polite and treated the young lady fairly.

I remember when I was a teen (more than two decades ago), I was so concerned about the environment and saving the earth, then I grew up and became more concerned about being able to put food on the table and caring for my family. When you are young and provided for by parents, your priorities are different from when you have to take on full adult responsibilities. I still do my bit to not be too wasteful, but it would not stop me from travelling just for enjoyment, or using an air conditioner when it's hot.

It was the Boomer Generation that started Earth Day and did so much to raise consciousness about environmental problems. I still do what I can to make things a little bit better than I found them, and I'm proud of that.

As Alan said on June 4th 2019..To all the school kids who went on 'strike' for climate change...
You are the first generation who have required air-conditioning in every classroom.
You want TV in every room and your classes are all computerised.
You spend all day and night on electronic devices. More than ever, you don't walk or ride bikes to school but arrive in caravans of private cars that choke suburban roads and worsen rush hour traffic.
You are the biggest consumers of manufactured goods ever and replace perfectly good expensive luxury items to stay trendy. Your scooters and skateboards are increasingly... electric!
Furthermore, the people driving your protests are the same people who insist on artificially inflating the population growth through immigration which increases the need for energy, manufacturing and transport.
The more people we have, the more forest and bushland we clear and more of the environment is destroyed.
How about this... tell your teachers to switch off the air-con. Walk or ride to school. Switch off your devices and read a book. Make a sandwich instead of buying manufactured goods.
No, none of this will happen because you are uneducated, selfish, virtue signalling little turds inspired by the adults around you who crave a feeling of having a 'noble cause' while they indulge themselves in Western luxury and unprecedented quality of life.

Most people just have yes men in their inner circle so they don’t see any issues with their reasoning because everyone they know agrees with them. I also blame activist teachers who fire their students up into a passion of righteous anger but don’t arm them with the required knowledge to sound intelligent and rational when they are given the opportunity to articulate whatever fashionable cause has been planted in their immature minds. I feel sorry for that young girl who is now a laughing stock. "...but don’t arm them with the required knowledge to sound intelligent". That's hard to do when your argument is 10% truth and 90% lies and propaganda! Primary and secondary teachers don't know any more than anyone else about most subjects - other than whatever their degree is in. They're just people that studied a subject and then went on to teach that same subject to kids at a lower level (or began to teach really rudimentary stuff to young kids). Any teacher pushing things like climate change on their students has access to the exact same information we do - and they just push whatever they want to believe and/or whatever their school board demands them to push. That's why politics, activism and religion (including sexual orientation and genderism) has no place in the classroom (unless it's a private school and the parents know what's being pushed).

There was a group I worked for for a short while. Their policy was that you could not sell a product of theirs to any clients unless you were using at least one of their products. The reason is because if you push for people to use or do something and you don't use it or do it yourself, they can normally tell and don't want to associate, therefore giving the company less opportunity for that potential sale. This, I believe, should be applied to most, if not all aspects of life, for what you believe and stand for.
