Yeah. Having him wear the shades in the opening act when he was being such a hardass was a very deliberate choice. And then when he takes them off to start humanizing him, it's instantly very effective because of his face.
The first time he takes his glasses off, when talking to cloud on the train, the look on his face tells you his entire story. He's there to fight for the people. He's there to fight for his daughter, he's there to protect everyone he loves and nothing will get in the way of that. Such a small moment but I love how he's portrayed

There might be different iterations of Sephiroth, there is the OG Sephiroth, and then there is the 'Time travelling' Sephiroth who finds a way to go back in time. Now is this the Jenova Sephiroth who went insane and wanted to end the world being manipulated by his 'mother', or is this the 'human' Sephiroth?

@@AmekiClips Yep. That's been my thought since I first beat the game. "We might be able to save Aerith this time! But what is the price going to be to do it?" Considering how the devs are just this side of directly addressing the player/audience/fans via the Whispers, I would not be at all surprised if they present a choice. On one hand, you can save Aerith, but the world is doomed; on the other, sacrifice her the way they felt they had to in the original in order to save the world.
With what they did to the remake, they can actually do what they want with the whole story. Zack maybe the one helping Barrets group when infiltrating shinra because of the teaser of the dog soldier symbol. But, I think they'll think of a way for aerith to do what she do with holy since she already had experience doing it before. Zack might show himself at the end to help out I'm guessing
Yeah, some don't know the original or Crisis Corr as well as she does likely. Maybe because they didn't play to them. Or maybe like her didn't play to them just before playing FF7R. After all, te OG and CC were pretty fresh in her head.

Subaru luckily played everything in 'chronological' order of game release date I think? Or at least she went through Crisis Core on top of FF7 original. Subaru shows very good instinct and deep understanding of stories and characters, and knows when a 'boss battle' will come out even though she isn't a 'gamer' to begin with.
This is why Subaru's FF7-related streams have been my absolute favourite. I love how enthusiastic she is and how she instantly grabs on and starts speculating about ideas with the viewers. It's just the best, so thanks a ton for translating and helping to share these moments with more people!
One of my favorite parts of this stream was how the audience started chanting "SEPHIROTH!" in time with One-Winged Angel and Subaru was like "Hey, whose side are you guys on?!"
I remember her gameplay on Crisis Core and the comments about her saying she will change the destiny. This is a good throwback for Subaru now she sees the changed fate for Zack.
ANYONE who played the FF7: Crisis Core would have a hard time not being a fan of Zack Fair. The game is basically a playable autobiography of his character and the people around him.

@@JackgarPrime It's actually SO sick. And I cannot emphasize enough the absolutely gargantuan balls it took to take the story in this direction. It's a type of storytelling that is only possible in a remake. They can reveal/tease things from the original because it makes sense/plays a part in this version of events, because some characters clearly have knowledge of the original sequence of events. AND they break established canon at the end of Part 1, allowing for things from Part 2 and onwards to domino far beyond the scope of the original story.
I never even thought of the destiny scream thingy, i honestly just thought it was the scream the ghosts made at that moment. But what Subaru said about zack not wanting to die and having no choice is a good interpretation. Zacks scream against destiny when fighting a loosing battle
Well, she did tried so hard to survive the final battle despite the inevitable so it makes sense for her to feel that way since she also doesn’t want Zack to die Man, playing this after Crisis Core is a good timing for Subaru

I used to hate this game and it's ending. After Subaru's explanation everything makes sense and I actually enjoy it alot more now. I can't believe the obvious facts missed over my head, Subaru's pure heart saw things the way it was meant to be seen. That's when I realized I became a shriveled boomer lol.
Well , she played both the original and crisis core before the remake. A lot of things are still fresh and maybe that's why she could understand the "new plot" of the remake so easily. But it's like a dood said. "Some people don't like it when they change things that we love and that's why this remake is so polarizing. But that's not a bad thing and I love it "

I'm personally the opposite i think the boring safe route is to change nothing. I loved FF7R because they were willing to take risks and change things and to me it made it soo much more interesting of a play through. It was no longer just a nostalgia trip with better graphics. It had me more immersed to figure out what was different and how much they were going to change. I also don't see it as ruining the original at all. Its not like the remake is replacing the original.
Man its so refreshing to have a streamer that actually pays attention to what happens in the fucking game instead of skipping all the important shit and then say the game sucks because they didnt feel like listening to it.
Yeah, Subaru really likes FF7 too. So her paying attention was normal. Also she didn't rush through the side quests or just straight up didn't do them too ^^
The game sucks if you were expecting the original story but in HD tho I blame the marketing, they advertised it as FFVII but in HD with the combat of FFXV, but it's actually FFVII 1.5 or 2
Yeah, I can understand people who just wanted FFVII as a actual remake.. I'm lucky in this because I still enjoyed the game a lot and I like the idea of it. Ofc Aerith and Zack's deaths were important elements of the original game, but I wonder if they could have truly caught the same feeling of back then. Since most people originally went in FF7R knowing Aerith would die.
The contrast between Pekora, who never played the OG, and Subaru who has is fascinating. I played the OG back when it was still new, so as a long time fan, my impressions of Remake were far different from theirs. So glad I went on this journey with both these ladies, and look forward to the continuing of the tale.
True I just recently played the OG but haven't finished it due I don't have time to play or continue it (i play on ps1 using emulator) But, I already watch the story of both OG & Remake multiple times including Crisis Core, Before Crisis, Advent Children & Dirge if Cerberus. So I can get what's these stories will ended up with (from OG timeline) It seems REMAKE in my theory is the continuation of OG & Advent Children of FF7. If I put Kingdom Hearts timelines and fates work, then in the Lifestream somehow Aerith and Sephiroth after the event of OG and Advent Children has find a key to go back in time to fix the past into something they wish to be happened, in results making those Whispers (The Guardian of Timelines) is angry and will not stop at anything to make sure Aerith and Sephiroth did not achieve their goals, that also including Cloud and their companions. They have to make sure anything and everything works like the Original Source Timeline of OG. If I would put The Memes Idea from MGS2 & MGR here then, we player would be mad or happy if the change of destiny is happened. Like the Survival of Aerith from being killed by Sephiroth or The Survival of Zack from being killed by Shinra Soldiers. We've been vaguely given this potential genetic and ideas from the Game that they will survive and we as player couldn't get more excited or more angrier. Those Memes Seed are planted and keep teased in the game making us player burning the brains to keep thinking and under influenced what will happens in the future in this timelines.
It would be funny for every new remake entry all the post credits are Zack’s journey throughout the new timeline …. Resulting in another possibility for a spin-off that will tell his journey. Yep, a Crisis Core sequel

Subaru is totally in level 4, she really knows about all of it, because this game is a sequel of the original and many really don't know that or doesn't realize that (people that play the OG). She even knows about what Sephirot is doing and that are different timelines, that's really impressive, it just tell me that she is really into it and I couldn't be happier with that fact, the game have some flaws, but you really can tell is a love letter for all of those fans who play the original and keep waiting for something more, in the end they deliver a game with such passion and an incredible quality that I really find strange that people start to criticize it at the very beginning.
Not sure if she actually read it somewhere, but I remember a comment from a dev saying that FF7 Original's ending is one that leads to a near future where humans are extinct. If she didn't read it somewhere and she actually extrapolated it from the 7 seconds that's pretty impressive.

I've also heard that there is a difference in the way each version of Sephiroth speaks in JP, which was lost in localization. For example, Jenova Sephiroth (the one who stabbed Barrett) used something like "Watashi" to refer to himself, while the Sephiroth in the Edge of Creation uses "Ore" (a more informal, simple dialect). I would think that makes it more obvious that something is not right with him this time.

It actually would be fun to play as Sephiroth as a dark hero, going behind the scene to change his own destiny to avoid turning into a villain and getting killed. Or at least tried to. They couldn't call the game Final Fantasy 7-2 or 2nd, it would make all the fans become haters... So they hide it as FF7R, but R doesn't just stand for remake, but 'returns'.
I do find it interesting that so many people have conflicting thoughts about Zack being alive. Me personally, I'm just interested to see what him being alive means because, while his death is important to the original timeline, what him being alive is important to has never been explored. The future is so uncertain and frankly I'm here for it.
I do wonder if she figured out that the three entities (sword/fist/guns) she was fighting were the three guys from Advent Children. And now to wait for part 2 of the "Remake"... Oh god the wait...

I don't think she watched Advent Children. Like it says at the top of her screen, she's done og FF7 and Crisis Core. No mention of it from her so I will think she has not.
She might not be able to meet the requirements to fight Weiss though. She must replay Hard Mode offscreen. And her mind will be blown if she plays Dirge of Cerberus after Yuffie’s side story.

This game was freaking brilliant in the way it took the concept of a "Remake" and incorporated it into the story. At the meta level it's been "remade" at a technical and mechanical level. New graphics, improved character design, more action-focused combat and so on. It was also "remade" by expanding the roles of other characters that were neglected in the original, and to great effect. I think those that played the original and then played this would agree that Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge were much more developed in this than the original; I'd also say that their fates hit a lot harder too. But they then went a step further by having this game be something of a time-loop based stealth sequel where the characters, and the player playing them, play a part in "remaking" this world's fate.
You know it's been over a year since I played this amazing game, but never in Japanese. It's especially refreshing, and here, I'm seeing it like new, vicariously through Subaru. Thank you for translating!

A popular fan theory right now is that the Sephiroth we encounter in FF7R is actually the Sephiroth from the end of Advent Children, having found some way to travel the Lifestream to the past to rewrite history. This is why a lot of things are different in FF7R from original FF7 (like Biggs and Wedge surviving), and with us beating the Whispered, it leads to possible split timelines, like the one shown where Zack survives, and future FF7R parts could end up telling a whole different story. In that sense, FF7R is actually more of a sequel, than a remake, though it does retell most of the story beats.
A loose sequel. Very loose. And it is actually a Remake, no mistake there. It’s a double meaning by Square-Enix. Remake due to the models and so on. And Sephiroth is remaking history to his liking. Regardless of who wins during Cloud and gang vs. the Whispers, Sephiroth won. If Cloud loses, Sephiroth can do as he likes though he might want to end Cloud by his own hands. If Cloud wins, then Sephiroth is free to do as he wishes without the Whispers interfering.
Since Genesis worships Minerva (tied somehow to the lifestream) and Sephiroth emanates and replicates Jenova (who wants to eat the lifestream), they're going to be enemies in the future of the FF7 storyline. That's why Sephiroth needs Cloud help. Genesis probably change the timelines too. Another plot twist is Cloud and Zack will fighting them. Well, theory is theory

The reason they titled this Remake isn't because it's a remake of the original FF7. It's because the events of this game remade something, essentially giving us a different timeline. That's why they showed a different looking Stamp, a beagle in Cloud's timeline and a terrier in Zack's. The Whispers were "guiding" events along a certain point, but you can see that in most parts the party defies the path being given them. Moving on, I can't wait to see where the party and the story leads given Kitase and Nomura are alluding to a more open world in the next part (Rebirth). They also reassured fans that little to nothing will be cut as far as story content is concerned. Can't wait for next winter.
But they remade it in they way that really mattered. They made me feel like I did when I first played it even tho I knew the story…the wonder of wall market…excitement over a new character….walking out of Midgard for the first time and that feeling of vast unexplored world….that’s truly amazing
I’m kinda disappointed that people don’t realize what’s happening at the end of creation often, I mean we already have an idea on what’s happening in the game but this part really solidifies it. It’s literally the final clash at the end of the original game, and just like the end of the OG, cloud uses omnislash, and where in the OG it overwhelms and kills sephiroth, here Sephiroth shrugs it off with almost no effort at all, in fact he seems to know where cloud is going to attack before he does, meaning he’s seen and maybe even lived all this before. It just really drives home what’s going on in the story
Glad that JP version still got Kenichi Suzumura as Zack. We lost Rick Gomez in EN version, and instead we got a voice actor that can't even replicate Zack's lines from CC.
I don't think Zack's new VA is bad per se, it's just that in Remake it sounded like he was imitating Suzumura's line reads instead of giving his own spin on the character's personality. I think he settled into the role as of Intergrade since his performance is a lot better there.

They took away the iconic lines, the foreshadowing, the references to Crisis Core, they created again a love triangle that the Japanese version was trying to get rid of to stop people from misunderstanding the plot, manipulated facial expressions, changed meanings and the tone of voice/behavior of the characters... Everything is a complete mess, it's gonna make massive plot holes and I hope they take Ben Sabin accountable, so that he doesn't do this shit anymore in the second part. Literally they ruined everybody... especially Tifa, Cloud and Sephiroth.

it’s funny how i seemed to have understood the story implications a lot better in Japanese than in English lol I even felt real emotion seeing Zack and Cloud cross paths despite it being my 100th time seeing this ending. But it was probably because of Subaru’s genuine excitement and emotive feedback that I felt it the way I did just now. Would love to see her play ReBirth when it comes out :))
As someone who's replaying Crisis Core and Remake again, the idea of Zack coming back seems great, he's one of my favorite protags just cuz of his outgoing nature and personality in general. HOWEVER, him coming back feels like it almost invalidates his original story, as sad as it was and is, I think his death was very somber but heartwarming. He fights to his last breath to try and protect Cloud (his new best of iend and comrade), and when I seen the bullets that finally took him down, all I could think to myself was "you did good Zack, it's time to rest, you did enough. Angeal will be happy to see you again"
Yeah, FF7R has this weird duality. People are actually happy about the Aerith and Zack surviving in the future (possibly). But at the same time they wonder if it's the right thing to do.
There's a theory that Sephiroth's true goal is to somehow circumvent Omega Weapon. For those of you who don't know (Because who HONESTLY played Dirge of Cerberus jk lol) If the planet is destroyed, everything get's absorbed by Omega Weapon and it blasts off to find another planet. It could be what Sephiroth hopes to avoid by altering destiny. It would also make sense for Nomura to base his story on plot critical elements being in side games that no one played.
EXACTLY! Knowing how Sephiroth's personality was as before the you-know-what, and his power inevitably escalates and borders on omnipotence, I always believed him using Jenova and the Earth as "vessels" was just a tool for something grander, this definitely proves it. My theories are either that he changed events in the timeline to alter the future (maybe the timeline of OG went to shit) so he is supporting Cloud (and Zack to an extent) to meet his original objective; or he helps them just because he does not want the new timeline to go down the drain. Whatever it is, Cloud will prob die, and Sephiroth wants to stop it, but Cloud is...well, Cloud.

I finally get it now. Zack was supposed to die and the whispers would have helped with that, but because Cloud’s group and Sephiroth were doing their shenanigans the whispers couldn’t do enough and Zack won. I was overthinking stuff.
Somehow, seeing Subaru's reactions to the remake helps me to like it a little more. I loved a lot of what they did with it, but honestly detested the whole changing fate aspect of it. I'm actually kinda surprised at just how well she followed what was happening. A lot of people didn't get it initially. Thanks for all of these translation videos.

For me, I'm with Subaru. It feels weird...but I love these guys, especially after how much character was added in the Remake. I love them and I don't want them to face what I know should be coming. So, I would love to fight that and have them live and be happy. But everything comes at a price, and that scares me for what I don't know anymore. For the first time in decades FF7 is...new to me. And I love it. I get the frustrations at the worry about the original. But the original is still out there, and if it ends bad it won't be the first time I just ignore part of canon to only take in the one I like. So for me, it's just about experiencing a childhood wonder all over again. A new.
Yeah, the price is what is scary. We might end up with something as great or even better (hopefully). We could also end up with a worst game in later parts :x Still they really aced it with Jessie, Briggs and Wedge. I really didn't care about them in the original game. They don't do anything and they have no presence. Here: Wedge and his cats, Biggs and his dorky thumbs up that he thinks is so cool as a gesture, Jesse and the pizza. There's so much character that I struggled to keep it down to just one a piece just there.

Aerith can see the Mako streams. She can feel Zack through that. She saw the sky, and knew it was like the same one, when she felt Zack return to the stream.

“I wanted to see this, but, eh?” That’s honestly a great reaction to this. Like, we all wanted to see Zack survive, and we’re all glad he did, but now that he actually did, what does this mean? Is this a good thing or a bad thing? And what else does this mean for… other impactful deaths?
My understanding is that the time travel/altering reality is to stop his own death, which is why by saving aeirth and zack, sephiroth won't lose in the new timeline because those two wouldn't be in the lifestream, to activate the holy materia to save the world like in the original events. Although it's already getting mucked up because causing Zack to live, would mean Cloud wouldn't inherit the Buster Sword (to be Zack's living legacy)
It feels so damn strange to me seeing how people actually love and adore Biggs now.. when he was like a minor of a minor character in original FF7. Died on the pillar and was practically never mentioned ever again. I love that the trio gets more time. Biggs, Wedge and Jessie. I am holding out hope that Jessie also survives this, because she is adorable. Wedge I am kind of.. impartial. They didn't do too much to his character, but I am hoping they give him more screen time to make me like him as well.
seems like they try to link ff stranger of paradise with this one, like jack garland backstory and sephiroth now also try to guide the hero while playing as the antagonist for some keikaku reason, at least now the final fantasy theme make more sense.

Jesus Christ I really wish I could get into vtubers more! I've already liked Subaru from the various clips I've seen over the years, but watching her get so hype over FF7 makes her my favorite vtuber by default. Oh and since I'm a Steins;Gate fan I love that she calls them world lines, but that might just be the translation.
She calls them wordline in japanese too. Originally I was going to go for timeline but since in the end she does use the word "worldline" all the time. I decided to change it back.
A soldier who sacrificed himself and missed the chance for a "date" with the one he loves. A soldier who fought for an organization that turned out to have corruption within it. A soldier who said, "the price of freedom is steep". A soldier who passed his iconic weapon to his "successor". A soldier who may have a chance to see his loved one again because of timey-wimey sci-fi or fantasy? Man Zack Fair of Final Fantasy 7 and Captain America of the MCU have a lot of things in common.
I feel like Zack's gonna be a MC in at least the 3rd installation of the game(or maybe the next?) if he isn't dead in this timeline. And the name crisis core feels like a named timeline in which Zack didn't make it. And i feel like the writers for this FF7 have been planning multiple time line for a long time?

Man, every time I see Barret with his shades off I'm struck by how kind they made his eyes. It's such a great detail for his character.

It's really in line with his character in the original game, but due to hardware limitations it was impossible to show.
Yeah, it wasn't the same back then. Not that it wasn't great either. I have still great memories of the OG.
Yeah. Having him wear the shades in the opening act when he was being such a hardass was a very deliberate choice. And then when he takes them off to start humanizing him, it's instantly very effective because of his face.
The first time he takes his glasses off, when talking to cloud on the train, the look on his face tells you his entire story. He's there to fight for the people. He's there to fight for his daughter, he's there to protect everyone he loves and nothing will get in the way of that. Such a small moment but I love how he's portrayed

There might be different iterations of Sephiroth, there is the OG Sephiroth, and then there is the 'Time travelling' Sephiroth who finds a way to go back in time.
Now is this the Jenova Sephiroth who went insane and wanted to end the world being manipulated by his 'mother', or is this the 'human' Sephiroth?
@@AmekiClips The interesting thing about Aeris's death is, at the end of the game, the implication is that Holy only managed to block Meteor because of Aeris's help from within the Lifestream.
If she's still alive, maybe that won't work this time.

Considering how the devs are just this side of directly addressing the player/audience/fans via the Whispers, I would not be at all surprised if they present a choice. On one hand, you can save Aerith, but the world is doomed; on the other, sacrifice her the way they felt they had to in the original in order to save the world.
With what they did to the remake, they can actually do what they want with the whole story. Zack maybe the one helping Barrets group when infiltrating shinra because of the teaser of the dog soldier symbol. But, I think they'll think of a way for aerith to do what she do with holy since she already had experience doing it before. Zack might show himself at the end to help out I'm guessing

Yeah, some don't know the original or Crisis Corr as well as she does likely. Maybe because they didn't play to them. Or maybe like her didn't play to them just before playing FF7R. After all, te OG and CC were pretty fresh in her head.
Subaru playthrough the whole series of OG ff7 and crisis core and she didn't stop too long each one so all the plot is still fresh in her mind

Subaru luckily played everything in 'chronological' order of game release date I think? Or at least she went through Crisis Core on top of FF7 original.
Subaru shows very good instinct and deep understanding of stories and characters, and knows when a 'boss battle' will come out even though she isn't a 'gamer' to begin with.
This is why Subaru's FF7-related streams have been my absolute favourite. I love how enthusiastic she is and how she instantly grabs on and starts speculating about ideas with the viewers. It's just the best, so thanks a ton for translating and helping to share these moments with more people!

ANYONE who played the FF7: Crisis Core would have a hard time not being a fan of Zack Fair. The game is basically a playable autobiography of his character and the people around him.

And I cannot emphasize enough the absolutely gargantuan balls it took to take the story in this direction.
It's a type of storytelling that is only possible in a remake. They can reveal/tease things from the original because it makes sense/plays a part in this version of events, because some characters clearly have knowledge of the original sequence of events.
AND they break established canon at the end of Part 1, allowing for things from Part 2 and onwards to domino far beyond the scope of the original story.
I never even thought of the destiny scream thingy, i honestly just thought it was the scream the ghosts made at that moment. But what Subaru said about zack not wanting to die and having no choice is a good interpretation. Zacks scream against destiny when fighting a loosing battle

I used to hate this game and it's ending. After Subaru's explanation everything makes sense and I actually enjoy it alot more now. I can't believe the obvious facts missed over my head, Subaru's pure heart saw things the way it was meant to be seen. That's when I realized I became a shriveled boomer lol.
Well , she played both the original and crisis core before the remake. A lot of things are still fresh and maybe that's why she could understand the "new plot" of the remake so easily.

I'm personally the opposite i think the boring safe route is to change nothing. I loved FF7R because they were willing to take risks and change things and to me it made it soo much more interesting of a play through. It was no longer just a nostalgia trip with better graphics. It had me more immersed to figure out what was different and how much they were going to change. I also don't see it as ruining the original at all. Its not like the remake is replacing the original.
Man its so refreshing to have a streamer that actually pays attention to what happens in the fucking game instead of skipping all the important shit and then say the game sucks because they didnt feel like listening to it.
Yeah, Subaru really likes FF7 too. So her paying attention was normal. Also she didn't rush through the side quests or just straight up didn't do them too ^^

Yeah, I can understand people who just wanted FFVII as a actual remake.. I'm lucky in this because I still enjoyed the game a lot and I like the idea of it. Ofc Aerith and Zack's deaths were important elements of the original game, but I wonder if they could have truly caught the same feeling of back then. Since most people originally went in FF7R knowing Aerith would die.
The contrast between Pekora, who never played the OG, and Subaru who has is fascinating.
I played the OG back when it was still new, so as a long time fan, my impressions of Remake were far different from theirs.
So glad I went on this journey with both these ladies, and look forward to the continuing of the tale.

I just recently played the OG but haven't finished it due I don't have time to play or continue it (i play on ps1 using emulator)
But, I already watch the story of both OG & Remake multiple times including Crisis Core, Before Crisis, Advent Children & Dirge if Cerberus. So I can get what's these stories will ended up with (from OG timeline)
It seems REMAKE in my theory is the continuation of OG & Advent Children of FF7. If I put Kingdom Hearts timelines and fates work, then in the Lifestream somehow Aerith and Sephiroth after the event of OG and Advent Children has find a key to go back in time to fix the past into something they wish to be happened, in results making those Whispers (The Guardian of Timelines) is angry and will not stop at anything to make sure Aerith and Sephiroth did not achieve their goals, that also including Cloud and their companions. They have to make sure anything and everything works like the Original Source Timeline of OG.
If I would put The Memes Idea from MGS2 & MGR here then, we player would be mad or happy if the change of destiny is happened. Like the Survival of Aerith from being killed by Sephiroth or The Survival of Zack from being killed by Shinra Soldiers. We've been vaguely given this potential genetic and ideas from the Game that they will survive and we as player couldn't get more excited or more angrier. Those Memes Seed are planted and keep teased in the game making us player burning the brains to keep thinking and under influenced what will happens in the future in this timelines.

Subaru is totally in level 4, she really knows about all of it, because this game is a sequel of the original and many really don't know that or doesn't realize that (people that play the OG).
She even knows about what Sephirot is doing and that are different timelines, that's really impressive, it just tell me that she is really into it and I couldn't be happier with that fact, the game have some flaws, but you really can tell is a love letter for all of those fans who play the original and keep waiting for something more, in the end they deliver a game with such passion and an incredible quality that I really find strange that people start to criticize it at the very beginning.
Not sure if she actually read it somewhere, but I remember a comment from a dev saying that FF7 Original's ending is one that leads to a near future where humans are extinct. If she didn't read it somewhere and she actually extrapolated it from the 7 seconds that's pretty impressive.

I've also heard that there is a difference in the way each version of Sephiroth speaks in JP, which was lost in localization. For example, Jenova Sephiroth (the one who stabbed Barrett) used something like "Watashi" to refer to himself, while the Sephiroth in the Edge of Creation uses "Ore" (a more informal, simple dialect). I would think that makes it more obvious that something is not right with him this time.

I do find it interesting that so many people have conflicting thoughts about Zack being alive. Me personally, I'm just interested to see what him being alive means because, while his death is important to the original timeline, what him being alive is important to has never been explored. The future is so uncertain and frankly I'm here for it.

Hadn't noticed until Subaru mentioned Clouds expression at the end, it's subtle but there's a hint of a smile when the gang says they'll go with him.
I interpet it her reaction as seeing cgi cloud smile since it looks different than in game model cloud.

Watching this made me start a 1h loop on Price of Freedom.
This game was freaking brilliant in the way it took the concept of a "Remake" and incorporated it into the story. At the meta level it's been "remade" at a technical and mechanical level. New graphics, improved character design, more action-focused combat and so on. It was also "remade" by expanding the roles of other characters that were neglected in the original, and to great effect. I think those that played the original and then played this would agree that Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge were much more developed in this than the original; I'd also say that their fates hit a lot harder too.
But they then went a step further by having this game be something of a time-loop based stealth sequel where the characters, and the player playing them, play a part in "remaking" this world's fate.
You know it's been over a year since I played this amazing game, but never in Japanese. It's especially refreshing, and here, I'm seeing it like new, vicariously through Subaru. Thank you for translating!

A popular fan theory right now is that the Sephiroth we encounter in FF7R is actually the Sephiroth from the end of Advent Children, having found some way to travel the Lifestream to the past to rewrite history. This is why a lot of things are different in FF7R from original FF7 (like Biggs and Wedge surviving), and with us beating the Whispered, it leads to possible split timelines, like the one shown where Zack survives, and future FF7R parts could end up telling a whole different story. In that sense, FF7R is actually more of a sequel, than a remake, though it does retell most of the story beats.

It’s a double meaning by Square-Enix.

And Sephiroth is remaking history to his liking.
Regardless of who wins during Cloud and gang vs. the Whispers, Sephiroth won.

If Cloud wins, then Sephiroth is free to do as he wishes without the Whispers interfering.
Since Genesis worships Minerva (tied somehow to the lifestream) and Sephiroth emanates and replicates Jenova (who wants to eat the lifestream), they're going to be enemies in the future of the FF7 storyline. That's why Sephiroth needs Cloud help. Genesis probably change the timelines too. Another plot twist is Cloud and Zack will fighting them. Well, theory is theory

Not only zack survive, but sephiroth too, now he knows that in the og timeline he dies, and will create another plan to get to his goal
The reason they titled this Remake isn't because it's a remake of the original FF7. It's because the events of this game remade something, essentially giving us a different timeline. That's why they showed a different looking Stamp, a beagle in Cloud's timeline and a terrier in Zack's. The Whispers were "guiding" events along a certain point, but you can see that in most parts the party defies the path being given them. Moving on, I can't wait to see where the party and the story leads given Kitase and Nomura are alluding to a more open world in the next part (Rebirth). They also reassured fans that little to nothing will be cut as far as story content is concerned. Can't wait for next winter.
But they remade it in they way that really mattered. They made me feel like I did when I first played it even tho I knew the story…the wonder of wall market…excitement over a new character….walking out of Midgard for the first time and that feeling of vast unexplored world….that’s truly amazing

I’m kinda disappointed that people don’t realize what’s happening at the end of creation often, I mean we already have an idea on what’s happening in the game but this part really solidifies it. It’s literally the final clash at the end of the original game, and just like the end of the OG, cloud uses omnislash, and where in the OG it overwhelms and kills sephiroth, here Sephiroth shrugs it off with almost no effort at all, in fact he seems to know where cloud is going to attack before he does, meaning he’s seen and maybe even lived all this before. It just really drives home what’s going on in the story

Well they weren’t going for the same feel in that scene as crisis core’s so it would be weird if he replicated the lines. But I get your point.
I don't think Zack's new VA is bad per se, it's just that in Remake it sounded like he was imitating Suzumura's line reads instead of giving his own spin on the character's personality. I think he settled into the role as of Intergrade since his performance is a lot better there.

Yeah, I compare with the game english translation to see if I should bother redoing the tl or not. And since it wasn't what she says in JP I redid it there.
I like it because it sounds more poetic, and plus it reminds the players about how Aerith is more afraid of the open sky than the plate above her.

@@AmekiClips They totally ruined how the characters should be portrayed, because the guy who is the head of the localization team, wanted the Remake "to match the OG fans expectations".
They took away the iconic lines, the foreshadowing, the references to Crisis Core, they created again a love triangle that the Japanese version was trying to get rid of to stop people from misunderstanding the plot, manipulated facial expressions, changed meanings and the tone of voice/behavior of the characters...
Everything is a complete mess, it's gonna make massive plot holes and I hope they take Ben Sabin accountable, so that he doesn't do this shit anymore in the second part.
Literally they ruined everybody... especially Tifa, Cloud and Sephiroth.

While i dont remember the OG&CC of FF7 whole gameplay..the "first" time aerith seen in the rain was when zack dies then the end of FF7R, then also in the end of FF7R yuffies dlc in which the aerith line JP trans "suddenly i feel anxious" in a light tone which is understandably comparable to the EN "my stomach's in knots"
The way Subaru play and connecting Dot from OG, Crisis Core and REMAKE is just fascinating. And also I have a little theory to say that this REMAKE is the continuation of OG & Advent Children of FF7. If I put Kingdom Hearts timelines and fates work, then in the Lifestream somehow Aerith and Sephiroth after the event of OG and Advent Children has find a key to go back in time to fix the past into something they wish to be happened, in results making those Whispers (The Guardian of Timelines) is angry and will not stop at anything to make sure Aerith and Sephiroth did not achieve their goals, that also including Cloud and their companions. They have to make sure anything and everything works like the Original Source Timeline of OG.
If I would put The Memes Idea from MGS2 & MGR here then, we player would be mad or happy if the change of destiny is happened. Like the Survival of Aerith from being killed by Sephiroth or The Survival of Zack from being killed by Shinra Soldiers. We've been vaguely given this potential genetic and ideas from the Game that they will survive and we as player couldn't get more excited or more angrier. Those Memes Seed are planted and keep teased in the game making us player burning the brains to keep thinking and under influenced what will happens in the future in this timelines.

I even felt real emotion seeing Zack and Cloud cross paths despite it being my 100th time seeing this ending. But it was probably because of Subaru’s genuine excitement and emotive feedback that I felt it the way I did just now. Would love to see her play ReBirth when it comes out :))
As someone who's replaying Crisis Core and Remake again, the idea of Zack coming back seems great, he's one of my favorite protags just cuz of his outgoing nature and personality in general. HOWEVER, him coming back feels like it almost invalidates his original story, as sad as it was and is, I think his death was very somber but heartwarming. He fights to his last breath to try and protect Cloud (his new best of iend and comrade), and when I seen the bullets that finally took him down, all I could think to myself was "you did good Zack, it's time to rest, you did enough. Angeal will be happy to see you again"
Yeah, FF7R has this weird duality. People are actually happy about the Aerith and Zack surviving in the future (possibly). But at the same time they wonder if it's the right thing to do.
There's a theory that Sephiroth's true goal is to somehow circumvent Omega Weapon. For those of you who don't know (Because who HONESTLY played Dirge of Cerberus jk lol) If the planet is destroyed, everything get's absorbed by Omega Weapon and it blasts off to find another planet. It could be what Sephiroth hopes to avoid by altering destiny. It would also make sense for Nomura to base his story on plot critical elements being in side games that no one played.

Knowing how Sephiroth's personality was as before the you-know-what, and his power inevitably escalates and borders on omnipotence, I always believed him using Jenova and the Earth as "vessels" was just a tool for something grander, this definitely proves it.
My theories are either that he changed events in the timeline to alter the future (maybe the timeline of OG went to shit) so he is supporting Cloud (and Zack to an extent) to meet his original objective; or he helps them just because he does not want the new timeline to go down the drain.
Whatever it is, Cloud will prob die, and Sephiroth wants to stop it, but Cloud is...well, Cloud.
... and Subaru has still to see the "extended ending" after Yuffie DLC. She will wipe hard even more...

I finally get it now. Zack was supposed to die and the whispers would have helped with that, but because Cloud’s group and Sephiroth were doing their shenanigans the whispers couldn’t do enough and Zack won. I was overthinking stuff.
Somehow, seeing Subaru's reactions to the remake helps me to like it a little more. I loved a lot of what they did with it, but honestly detested the whole changing fate aspect of it. I'm actually kinda surprised at just how well she followed what was happening. A lot of people didn't get it initially.

Yeah, it's rather conflicting. I enjoyed it but in the same time I understand why OG as it's that glorious too. Still if I like happy ends. So everyone surviving this time would be nice. I just hope Nomura will be able to make a really satisfying sequel and ending.
For me, I'm with Subaru. It feels weird...but I love these guys, especially after how much character was added in the Remake. I love them and I don't want them to face what I know should be coming. So, I would love to fight that and have them live and be happy. But everything comes at a price, and that scares me for what I don't know anymore. For the first time in decades FF7 is...new to me. And I love it.
I get the frustrations at the worry about the original. But the original is still out there, and if it ends bad it won't be the first time I just ignore part of canon to only take in the one I like. So for me, it's just about experiencing a childhood wonder all over again. A new.
Yeah, the price is what is scary. We might end up with something as great or even better (hopefully). We could also end up with a worst game in later parts :x
Still they really aced it with Jessie, Briggs and Wedge. I really didn't care about them in the original game.
But since they developped them more this time their "deaths" had more impact.
I still hope Jessie is alive and will join the main cast. She's just too great to leave her dead.

And to me that is why this game succeeded. Who honestly cared about those three nothing characters who died in like thirty minutes of game play if you know what you're doing. They don't do anything and they have no presence.
Here: Wedge and his cats, Biggs and his dorky thumbs up that he thinks is so cool as a gesture, Jesse and the pizza. There's so much character that I struggled to keep it down to just one a piece just there.

My understanding is that the time travel/altering reality is to stop his own death, which is why by saving aeirth and zack,
sephiroth won't lose in the new timeline because those two wouldn't be in the lifestream,
to activate the holy materia to save the world like in the original events.
Although it's already getting mucked up because causing Zack to live, would mean Cloud wouldn't inherit the Buster Sword (to be Zack's living legacy)
It feels so damn strange to me seeing how people actually love and adore Biggs now.. when he was like a minor of a minor character in original FF7. Died on the pillar and was practically never mentioned ever again. I love that the trio gets more time. Biggs, Wedge and Jessie. I am holding out hope that Jessie also survives this, because she is adorable. Wedge I am kind of.. impartial. They didn't do too much to his character, but I am hoping they give him more screen time to make me like him as well.
