It was never a question if he’d choose Grace or May. May was just a distraction, he was still in love with Grace. He told her a few times, he told May he couldn’t see her again because of someone else (Grace), and he didn’t tell May he’d ’always find her’ he just said he’d find her after the races to talk ahah but he didn’t have feelings for May like he did Grace he was in love with her from s1
I love this episode as it's very loosely based on a real assassination carried out in June 1922, that being the killing of former chief of the Imperial General Staff, Sir Henry Wilson. Wilson was shot dead on the doorstep of his Belgravia home in London by two London-based IRA men. His killing essentially triggered the Irish Civil War as the British government was outraged and forced the pro-Treaty government to deal with the anti-Treaty IRA in Ireland, who they believed were behind the shooting. Obviously, Peaky Blinders went more conspiratorial, which is that the pro-Treaty side was in cahoots with the British intelligence service to carry out a false flag. Also, the Red Right Hand is the emblem of the Ulster Volunteer Force, a unionist paramilitary launched in 1913. The movement faded away during the First World War but was reformed in 1919-20. The show alludes to UVF members having fought at the Somme with the 36th Ulster Division when Tommy asks the UVF men if they served. It's another interesting historical tidbit.

Thomas Shelby from Peaky Blinders, Jax Teller from Sons of Anarchy, and Kayce Dutton from Yellowstone are all very similar characters, and I have been in love with all of them. lol!
Kayce is almost nothing like the other two, what are you on about? Kayce is like a straight lawful good character. He's probably the only genuinely "good" character in Yellowstone. Neither Tommy or Jax would ever be confused as "good."
I COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY AGREE, WELL HE PLAYED THE ANTICHRIST!!!!!!; That scene when he flips that woman over & fucks her hard up the ass made quite the impression on my childhood!!!!!!!
I feel like most people thought he'd definitely choose May over Grace. I assume because he wouldnt want to involve Grace in his dangerous life and May seems more willing to accept the risks.
May has had access to the best things in life and now realizes all of that is empty without someone who thrills you to share it with. She isn't afraid of scandal or damaged pride or being dragged through the mud because she has had the unique lesson of learning what is important and what isn't. She lives without fear which is very attractive in anyone but I'd say extraordinary for a woman to have access to that knowledge, especially a woman from such a life of opulence. The wealthy usually travel farther away from enlightenment. When everything comes easy nothing has value.
I genuinely don't know how you'd think it was May 😅 They set up Tommy and Grace throughout S1. May was a stopgap. The second Grace reappeared that was it.
Cause Tommy/Grace didn't have the same chemistry as Tommy/May. I knew he'd pick Grace, too, but I desperately hoped May would win out because shes roughly 1000x more interesting to watch than Grace. Even the writers of season 3 understood that Grace was less interesting...
@JustForTheTunes That's the actor's fault, in my opinion. They wrote it to be Grace. Tommy was absolutely infatuated with her. He still wasn't over her two years later and immediately jumped to when Grace returned. I never actually liked Grace's portrayal. Her flimsy Irish accent always bothered me.
I think you are missing something about guy logic. He wants both, and thinks he loves both. Merit doesn't factor in, or even conventional logic. May makes him feel like who he is and Grace makes him feel like who he wants to be.
I think the main difference is that each woman makes him feel more like a part of himself. He's the best version of Tommy Fookin' Shelby when he's with May...... but with Grace he gets a glimpse of the lad he was before the war. She brings him peace, or as he says "He can't hear the shovels" when he's with her.
I have never watched this and even for a second thought he actually loved/liked May or that there was a choice to be made 😂 I always got the impression in the shows eyes Tommy and Grace are supposed to be together
I agree that the show thought that, but I also think the show was wrong lmfao. May had more chemistry with Tommy and was an infinitely more interesting character. Once Campbell was gone, Grace had nothing interesting to care about in regards to her character. And even the writers of season 3 realized this...

What you'll notice, without spoiling anything, is that Tommy is very prone to temper tantrums. Specifically when things don't go his way. To my mind, Tommy is extremely intelligent to a degree where there is no one around him who could match him. Using that intellect, he's able to achieve things that no man ever should and navigate the world in an almost god-like, omnipotent fashion to someone looking at him from the outside. However, like at the end of this season, when his plan goes awry and he has to be saved by Winston Churchill's spy. The thought that, throughout all of his planning and despite the fact that he STAYED a step ahead, he still fell short is too much for him to handle and he breaks down. There will be plenty more of that in the future.
