You are a young man with an old soul. I remember when my ship was in Japan in 1978. All of these receivers and amplifiers were laid out before me, and I would spend hours at the Navy Exchange looking at all of these beautiful pieces of stereo gear, not able to make up my mind. The stereo wars were the greatest time in audio history and it was fun to be a part of it.

Our Barracks/Dorm in Germany in 79-82 had an amazing about of audio gear all the young airmen were buying. Me, being a young married airman couldn't afford as much, even at those great BX prices. I did settle for an SA-600 receiver with SLD-3 turntable. Rounded it out with some pioneer speakers and TEAC Cassette and Reel to Reel decks. I still have the SA-600 and SLD-3

Christ - them prices! $15K. No negative judgement on my end - A Man likes what he likes. And there's an Ass for every Seat so it works well both ways. Of course all the flawless, fully functional vintage A/V Stuff I've hoarded away isn't worth the time, fees & shipping cost at the end of the day LOL but imagine how many hundreds or thousands of these "high value" Receivers, Turntables, etc. have been exchanged for $5 & a smile at the garage sale of someone's former home after they made their way to THE HOME. For this exact reason, I'm writing a whole "Asset Bible" for when I'm off the clock mentally +/or physically & it becomes someone else's very lucrative problem.

Oh man, I love this old vintage gear... Especially the lesser known, the rare ones and sleepers are awesome. Love the look of the audio like the scope receiver with the round dials.
And still there are things to be discovered that are so rare that there isn't almost anything on the net about. Like a JVC Nivico MSL-8E-1 Solid State system combining a tuner, record player and amp set-up. No info whatsoever. Or a rare receiver from Germany, a Kirksaeter RTX-85-55.
Love to find and save these mostly unwanted pieces that otherwise end up at a landfill !

May be rare, but how does it sound? Anything with a tuner in it is going to get RF, and that means noise. You could get a lot for $15K that sounds phenomenal. I was into vintage in the past and although nice and well made sonics were not the main focus. My Rotel RC 5000 preamp didn't even compete with the Luxman C 05 preamp I had as well at the same time.

i am not sure where the cutoff is for paypal to become suspicious of the transaction so i would suggest just to only pay less than $200.
above a certain point paypal may decide to hold the money or block the transaction or what ever.
i know as a new user until you get your bank account verified it is like $200 for the cutoff that you can charge to credit cards.
another thing you could do is snipe sit refreshing the page and place the bid within the last few seconds of the auction.
you could make a pioneer dealer turntable because the only differences is just it is in a plastic box with mirror and some feature labeling.
there is a thing called bid shielding where the seller would have others who would bid to protect the bid amounts.
i imagine there is a thing called offer shielding where there would be others offering to protect the offer amounts.
it is all part of the thing called shilling.
you may need to replace some of the parts in the kit because many of the capacitors may be dried out and could fail.

I currently own an SA1000 I bought around 1980. I also owned an SA600. As you probably know the pots and switches, especially the volume get really "snap crackle pop" going on when turned, to the point the volume will go off so bad it smokes the output transiter (2 power supply heat sinks (one per channel) in the 1000 and 1 in the 600). Had this happen several times with that SA600 and the guy I had try to fix that problem was unsuccessful in cleaning the pots and switches where they worked correctly. Sadly I gave up on that 600 which was a really good receiver when it worked. Like a dip stick that I am left the thing at the guy's shop and forgot about it. Then the guy died, the shop closed and I have no idea where my receiver went from there lost to me for good. The SA1000 that I have has the same issue with the control knobs and switches. With the experience I had with that 600 I didn't want to blow up my 1000 so I quit playing it. The thing has been sitting on a shelf with the rest of my gear for like 30 years. That sucker would dim the lights in the house when switched on! And weighs a ton!!! And would crank some tunes out like no other!!! Just about move the house on the foundation!!!
I remember that 600 would get really hot when driven hard and I put a fan on it to keep it cooler.
Question is, where can I send this 1000 to get it fixed up and get those knobs and switches cleaned up to work properly. I'm sure removing them and either ultra sonic clean or maybe there is some spritzer now days that can get them working. I really had no idea the value of that old thing. This 1000 is a brown face.

I've have a late 1970's AKAI AA 1150 AM/FM Receiver..... had it serviced locally, an absolutely astounding warm/clear sound ?
I'm obviously somewhat biased here ?.... but I'd assert the AKAI stuff was/is grossly overlooked and under rated ?

It's fun to see how much people pay for this stuff. When I was a kid I was 100% addicted to stereo gear. That was in the early 70's. We had Pacific Stereo, Playback, and the best store of all Musicraft. I spent hours in each weekly. I bought, sold, and traded over 150 stereo systems when i was a kid. It's really odd to see you chasing after Technics anything. When I was in the game in my youth, it was considered bottom of the barrel stuff. Sansui, Marantz, Pioneer, and I think Kenwood were the players back then. Possibly some Sony stuff as well. I was a hard core Pioneer and Sansui guy with receivers. JBL and UTAH (a knock off JBL) were my speakers of choice. L-100's with Blue grills were my go to. Turntables were Dual and later on Sony. Never had a Pioneer TT. I also had a few BIC turntables. Cassette decks were all over the map and I had most of them.I had a Wollensack SP? 8 track which was the cats meow in the day. I miss all that stuff, but I wouldn't pay even close to what you guys are for this stuff. The modern day gear is so much more amazing, and sounds so much better. That's my 2 cents. Cheers

Wow and glad so many ppl. are collecting vintage audio now and some opening vintage stores. I got the bug around 99 and so much was out there in thrift store, antique stores and flea markets, that reminds me and last time went to the flea market about 2 years ago, there was a monster Pioneer from like the early 70’s or late 60’s going for cheap but didn’t pick up.
As much as I love the fact more ppl. are getting into it, things are going to dry up and make them go up in price. Imagine about 50 to 70% of these units got tossed or ended up in thrift store for the last 50 years and the ones for sale are the survivors. There should still be plenty out and about bc this interest only come back to a small group of the population , but soon it’ll be like buying vintage cars. So grab the ho end model receiver before they get super expensive.

I remember when I wax buying cool stuff in the mid 90’s, my gf at the time couldn’t understand why I was looking for new things all the time and buying all the time. She even told her mom and her mom said he’s a male shopaholic . Lol! Now seeing guys like you with your constant shopping for vintage audio, this was 28 years ahead. Wow, you were not even born or still very young 28 years ago.

Hi Jason, you may not have the most powerful receiver ever. I consider the most powerful receiver as the Sansui G33000. I may have seen the boxes in your store in a previous video. This is a two piece unit consisting of the receiver and a 300wpc separate power amp 5 inch tall, 20 inch wide 20 inch deep unit below it. This is a rare piece as it was incredibly expensive unit to purchase. If you have this unit today, $50,000 would not be unfair to ask. There was also a similar unit with 200wpc, the G22000. Most people would say the Pioneer SX1980 is a good unit. I was at a hifi repair shop that was fully recapping this unit for a customer. I was not impressed by the output section. It has 4 output transistors per channel for a 270 watt output. These are unique proprietary devices used and designed by Pioneer in their products only. This is a lot of power for four output devices to reasonably handle. Some amplifiers have up to 16 devices per channel for a 200 watt output. This piece is a nice conversation starter. There are ebay adds that owners are looking to get up to $15000 for these units not recapped. Not a good idea for a 45 year old piece of equipment. Thanks again.

Hot take, I don’t think any of your intentions are malicious but collectors like this artificially increase scarcity and these pieces will sit in your collection for 40+ years and barely be listened to. Music is meant to be enjoyed, not hoarded. Fix, sell and move them on so someone can enjoy them daily while still preserving these pieces

I got all vintage gear i need or want, but why do you run a store and chazing away potential buyers with ' look what i got', you can't afford it anyways. Even ebay etsy Sotheby's and Reverb are a fifth or 10 times or 30 times cheaper in case of same vintage component in comparable conditions...! I'm just wondering..?

The sad thing about these collections is that once the collector dies, there likely won’t be any survivors that will care about the equipment and rush to sell it for whatever they can quickly get. That is good news for the people that get good deals, but for those beneficiaries of the collector, they don’t get as much benefit as if they were just left the money. I think there is a point where the audiophile addiction becomes economically damaging. But, it’s people’s money . . . .
