      There were a few pieces we kept for the store display not in this video. Including some dealer only editions. I will show them soon.

    Wow man what a collection. Never seen so many Marantz models in one location! I feel very privileged here in New Zealand to own an SX-1250/Sansui AU20000 etc as we got very little good quality Japanese audio back in the day due to import tariffs. There's more vintage audio in the country now then there was back in the 1970's.

    One of my biggest surprises exploring the vintage world of sound is a Lafayette LA-250A. It is a tube Integrated amplifier driven by EL86 power tubes, this one was still Made in the USA.
    What a unique sounding integrated amp it is, it has a distinctive tube midrange bloom that is different to all the other tube receivers and amps that I own.
    I might start exploring Lafayette solid state receivers too!

    Have you ever heard of Acculab or known as RTR? I got a pair of Acculab 440s in my basement. Paired up with a Pioneer sx750. Everything is all original. Both the speakers and the receiver is hitting almost 50 in a few years. All still rocks. There is more clarity and more bass with the Pioneer than my newer Yamaha rx v385.

    I watched this with my Marantz 2265b playing in the background. Marantz are my fave. The B versions were said to have sound improvements and a balance knob instead of the slider. The tone selector is fun when dialing in mids and highs. Don’t forget that vintage wattage ratings are more than honest. A 65 w can punch up in the eighties range!

      The Sony V5 and V7 just have that heavy industrial look that is a turn on for me. 150 Watts Per Channel is real monster receiver cred BUT not a boot smoker. It's the LOOK of the Sony V5 or V7 that sells the power convincingly. Just like the Sansui G-9000 it would not be the most powerful receiver in my collection but the looks of it smoke my boots!

    On some of the receiver's the "B" designation indicates (Dolby) but with the 2250’s it’s more of an upgrade as per my knowledge, and someone can let me know if I am wrong. The 2250B which Marantz introduced in 1976 or 1977, and was a very good mid-range receiver. I say mid-range because it’s rated at 50 watts per channel but I think many will attest to the fact that it is under rated and is perhaps closer to 70 watts per channel when fully restored and recapped.

    Nice Pioneer collection you have there. However, you must be careful when you are turning-on those earlier Pioneer and many other Japanese made receivers is that you should bring the volume control all the way down before turning-on your receiver which has the power switch combined with the speaker switch as well. Failure to lower the volume can accidentally blow-out your speakers as well. Later Pioneer and other Japanese made receivers moved the power switch to a separate button from the speaker switch which eliminated this problem as well. The old Fisher receivers and amplifiers has the power switch combined with the volume switch which is also a good thing.

    • @robertko5425
      @robertko5425 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@janath9118 You are very welcome my friend. This is what happens when they put the power off switch with the speaker selector switch, and if you forgot to lower your volume before turning off your receiver, and when you turn your receiver back on, and then BOOM !!! Your speakers are either DEAD or will have badly distorted sound as well. THIW's. That's why they corrected it on later models of receivers with a separate power button instead. Have a nice evening.

    • @janath9118
      @janath9118 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertko5425 Sorry about the delay to reply. My friend, yes, you are exactly correct about that! If they had put the power switch together with the speaker selector switch, that terrible thing of blowing the speakers could have happened, if anybody had accidently left the volume controller at a high position. This problem could have been avoided if these manufacturers had been more sensible in designing power switches and speaker selector switches separately.
      Thank you very much for sharing this information! Have a nice day!

      @@janath9118 You're welcome my friend, and enjoy your 247th 4th of July as well. My friends had that happen to them many, many times as well, with roasted voice coils, blown tweeters and midranges, which smelled like pork ribs on the grille on your barbeque cooker in your backyard. After 1976 they removed the power off function from the speaker selector switch, and placed a separate button for the power control instead, which itself was very helpful as well.

    The difference between the Pioneer QX-949 and 949A is in the SQ decoder. The 949A had full logic SQ; the 949 doesn't.

    • @LennyFlorentine
      @LennyFlorentine  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice, I was wondering

    • @Dan-Black
      @Dan-Black 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LennyFlorentine I'll add onto this comment, because it's the first one I saw that was completely correct -- the "SQ Full Logic" mode was the extra mode on that dial that the 949A added over the plain 949.
      I had five or six of these over the years, plus one plain 949. The 949A was definitely better; that SQ Full Logic mode sounded much better and was easily the best quadraphonic sound I heard in any of the numerous Pioneer and Sansui quads I tried over the years. It sounded as good as, or better than, any other surround sound I heard, including the '90s Dolby Pro Logic, up until I finally got a DTS receiver that actually supported digitally-encoded true separate channels for each surround channel. The SQ Full Logic on the 949A was literally decades ahead of anything else.
      Another great thing about those receivers is that they could drive all eight speakers at full power simultaneously, even if you switched it to stereo mode so the back speakers were getting the same signal and putting out the same power/volume as the front channels. I put a lot of large 4-ohm car speakers on them as well as large 8-ohm home speakers, and this receiver didn't care; it could drive them loud and hard all day long without overheating and burning itself up. This is a true powerhouse. Even though it's rated for "only" 40W/channel or so, that was on the old rating system, which (as I understand it) changed in the late '70s or early '80s so that output was measured at the amplifiers inside the receiver rather than actual output to the speakers, or something like that. At any rate, my "measly" 40W/channel would kick the butts of any 100 or 150W/channel "modern" receiver that dared take it on. (When I was in college, many tried, and they all failed. Several overheated driving smaller 8-ohm speakers and not putting out nearly as much volume or bass as my 949A. It never, ever lost a stereo battle.)
      So I used QX-949As as my main receivers for over two decades. Mine finally developed enough age-related problems (noise in the dials, some channels not working reliably because of the dials, and a couple I bought that already had non-functioning channels for one reason or another) that I replaced them with more modern equipment. But when I did so, I had to custom-build my own setup for even more power (using plate amps and car amps), because I just couldn't bear to downgrade. Let me tell ya, it takes a _lot_ to outdo these monsters! If you have on in good shape, it's a fantastic receiver.

I discover that my old tube amplifier is a dynaco. My amplification system from the 70´s or 1976 is a spec-1 and spec-2

    Was there a mention of a dollar amount? I'd love to know...Price for individual items?The average price being the important number. I have a number, .. Still this is utter madness. I've not seen anything like this since I was in Tottenham Court Road in 1978.
    Truly an extraordinary thing.

    The line that Sherwood S7910 came from was their best and I have one of them as my reference vintage receiver. To me they sound as good or better than any vintage stereo I ever had including Marantz and Sansui. I have the S9910 which is their biggest and most powerful. Has a 4 speaker mode called ARS that gives a stereo surround mode (Not Quad) but fills room very evenly with music without overpowering the front MainStage. Hook it up and let me know what you think.

    those yamha recivers are incredible good i left one go to other house but till today i never saw other from second half of the 70´s, the sherwood receiver was considered a very good one also the price was high at the time, Sony was an average brand but in the 80´s it become very bad ,instead of spending money on the components they spend it in the publicity all over the world

    Beautiful collection Lenny! However, what condition is each of the receivers in? Are they all checked and tested for any faulty electronics/capacitors/transistors, etc? These are all pushing a half-century old, in some cases, older.

      You can rest assured nothing you see will grace the Just Audio sales floor until it has been refreshed in a manner that addresses all known issues. Generally not a full recap because no business can recap everything in ways that are cost effective, However Just Audio technicians have been in the business of restoring vintage audio long enough to know which issues, capacitors, resistors, diodes, integrated circuits and other electronics components fail most often. EXAMPLE: Just Audio restored my Hitachi SR-2004 to working order four years ago but I just had one of its Integrated circuits die. While in service I'm having my Hitachi's main filter caps replaced. Loving Vintage audio is challenging and not for the faint of heart!
      I don't speak for Just Audio. I am just an old Just Audio Customer who has transacted about $20,000 of business with them when you add vintage audio repairs, sales, and consignments to the mix. When I bring in working well cared for vintage audio pieces for consignment Just Audio never just puts them on the sales floor. Nope Just Audio technicians look over everything and fixes anything broken or that they think might soon fail. Better than that Just Audio often replaces tired old speaker connectors with Banana Plug connectors. Sometimes old tired incandescent bulbs are replaced with LED's. Add a resistor here or a diode there and LED's can be made to closely approximate incandescent warmth!
      I say this just because they have some sweet, sweet vintage audio gear on this video. If you see something you like buy at ShopJustAudio.com with confidence because it's all looked at, repaired and upgraded before being offered for sale. Yes Just Audio is more expensive then auction site's or thrift stores but in vintage audio you get what you pay for.

      @Just Audio Hi Lenny! They are beautiful units, and I would actually consider buying the Sansui 9090 you have for sale (I own an all original/unrestored Sansui 5050 that is fantastic). My only concern as a customer, is that if the unit was to develop an issue in the future, is finding in my area, BOTH a very competent electronics tech, and one who is willing to work on that specific unit. I had one, who repaired my 5050 in 2017, but has since retired.

    Great collection. Enjoying your travel videos. Let me know when you make it our to So Cal. I have a small collection compared to this, but around 100 units that I have fixed/restored.
    Couple notes on this video:
    Pretty sure the Marantz 2440 is not a receiver. Its a quad amp that takes an encoded 2 channel signal and processes it into 4-channel. I wonder if any of the Marantz quad units include the plug in decoder (hard to find)
    On the Pioneer sx-780. You often say it's one of your favorites - is this because of the look vs. sound? The reason I ask is that the 780 utilizes STK-0050 outputs which sound good, but are known to fail due to heat issues when driven hard (or just get old.) I think you have a video on upgrading this unit to discrete component boards? I'm doing this on an Optonica SA-5406 right now (surprising exterior build quality BTW)
    The Marantz "B" has always confused me as well. Often these models have a reputation for not sounding as good as the non "B'' but the specs on paper appear to be better. I look forward to hearing from others on this as well.
    Keep up the good work!

      i never saw a receiver from pioneer sound bad from the 60´s till the end of the 70´s ,all that came after is cheaply built . maybe the weather in your region as to much humidity in the air, i sometimes conect receivers that are not used since late 80´s and work perfect when needing to repair a more recent amplifier from the 90´s, and i have also pioneer receiver that with 4 speakers have the matrix 4 option and in the brochure from 72 to 74 says ,the best surround you can get, the quadrofonic systems were sold but the material needed for them to work was never available like sources of sound with 4 channels or cartridges with four outputs or even records to be played in those cartridges and stylus, there are a few but not available if one wants to try the system
