Cinestill 800T | What I learned From 108 Exposures

  • In this video I talk about a really cool 35mm film stock, Cinestill 800T. It is actually a modified movie film, and it gives photos a dramatic, cinematic look when shot in the right lighting conditions. I tested it in a bunch of different lighting conditions/ shooting locations and I have example photos/ commentary on each!

    You’ve definitely got your priorities straight: no digital camera, no shotgun or lav mic, no fancy home studio setup - BUT you shoot lots of film. Gotta respect that. 😊

    Thanks for the deep dive into Cinestill, Yvonne. A number of Instagrammers whom I follow shoot with this and so I see their best shots with it. But I really like how you broke things down into various situations and explained and showed with photos which of those situations are best suited for Cinestill--and importantly, which are NOT! Very useful! I'm loving your channel. Keep up the great work!

    Nice video Yvonne. I realize this is 2 years old, but a tip you may wish to try: add a warming filter to your lens and shoot this in daylight (at box speed). You will be suprised how pleasant the skin tones are!

    I have been to Montreal once. My first snow experience! But by February it got too extreme for me. Anyway I love the sound that the old metro trains make when they start moving.

    Nice timing for this video. I'm about half way through my first roll of 800t. So far I was playing with double exposures, first an under exposed landscape then something with texture. It was all in bright sunlight, so hopefully I get a good shot or two.

    • @YvonneHansonPhotography

      That sounds so cool! I haven't shot a roll of cinestill with double exposure yet, but I've seen some reallllly cool results from it. Let me know how it turns out, I'd be really curious to see the photos.

    I dug up my film camera and hope to start shooting film again. I started with film back in the mid 80s. Always loved it. My go-to film for portraits back then was Kodak VPS 160. I did try a bunch of different films. I wasn't shy about experimenting. These days I do mostly music photography in a 180 seat club. I plan to shoot a roll of Cinestill 800T rated at 1600 and see what I get. My nephew swears by Cinestill. Thanks for your awesome videos!

    I just shot my first roll of this film on my Minolta X-700 and the results were amazing.
    Jut an FYI the layer removed from the Vison 3 film is called rem jet
    When used for film movies it protects the emulsion from coming apart due to static. Cool video. subbed

      @YvonneHansonPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

  • @oversharingturtle4462
    @oversharingturtle4462 ปีที่แล้ว

    There’s a bit of a difference between the super 8 and 16mm films that are Kodak 500t (base stock for 800t). They are like 35mm ciné film as they have a remjet layer. The removal of this layer may cause more light to reach the layers of the film which explains why it’s rated at 800 not 500, but more it is the part of the film that when removed will result in halation

    0:40 it’s not based on, and it’s not a copy. It is motion picture picture film. They take motion picture film, remove the remjet and re-roll it to produce cinestill 800T
