This event was so big that even Toei was surprised for how good it was.

If that's true then I wouldn't be surprised if Lord Drakkon became the inspiration for Ohma Zi-O. Given they share similarities with being evil rulers of an alternate future, posses the powers of all rangers/riders, they're most powerful forms are black and gold with red eyes, and they can rewrite the universe with their immense power.
@@FireFury190 Eh, technically Lord Drakkon only stole the powers of a few Rangers, whereas Ohma Zi-O literally has the powers of all Riders.

He forgot to mention that the longer the Rangers worked with Grace, the less comfortable they were with her methods; from holding an untransformed Putty in its human state a virtual prisoner at Promethea, to having her own Mechazord, to practically turning Vancouver into a marshall law state.

As a power rangers fan, this really was a love letter to the franchise also watching every season does help in knowing what is what and who is who. Then we got an amazing fighting game out of this sooo...

After how badly Super Megaforce was botched, Shattered Grid was the anniversary special we deserved.
I agree. Just because kids watch Power Rangers doesn't mean they don't know what a good story line is. It can be more than just a "cheesy kids show" as some people call it.

It think this comic handled Megaforce a lot better.
Ya know how Lord Drakkon made a perfect world where he was the hero everyone loved? It showed some panels with him fighting giant spirit animals. Those were the various Ranger powers still in his reality, fighting back, but they were also his doubts. The more the fantasy fell apart, the stronger the animals got. His own sense of inadequacy was unravelling everything, just like it always had and always would.
The couldn’t do this as a full length live action, sadly due to the age of actors. But get the team behind the D.C. animated films on this for 2 movies and use the original casts. Now the franchise is with has ro it could be interesting for separate tie ins.

Bryzantine I don’t think Toei would be able to stop them. I know they provide the original footage from Sentai, beyond that, I don’t know contractually how much influence/control Toei has on/over

@@fightingfalcon777 They have a lot of control. Power Rangers is an international brand. A lot of nations just get subtitled Sentai, but with Power Rangers branding. I forget where it was, but Gokaiger aired as "Power Rangers Captain Force".
It actually almost was! There were indeed plans to make a live-action series set in the Coinless world due to how well-received the live-action promo was! Kyle even had an outline ready to go but then Hasbro bought the franchise and as is the nature of franchise acquisitions, anything that wasn't currently in the can got canceled and this was one of them.
Why not let Toei animate it? It could be a Sentai anime in Japan where they just adapt Sentai references in the dub

That would make me infinitely happy, thing is that PR is a non-union show, and most of the actors of the past rangers have joined the union, one of the actors is dead, another in jail, and a lot more. It’s very unlikely yet since Hasbro now owns power rangers possible.

I mean... I'm more of a Sentai person myself but even I will admit that this is AMAZING! Reminds me slightly of the "Strongest Battle" mini-series
It will be cool to have prequel mini series of the gokaiger series were all the previous team needed to fight the invasion army and you get to see their zord being destroyed, old team reunited, dead rangers coming back from the dead, rangers team up that many wated and end it up were the movie gokaiger vs goseiger begin. Or power taisen movie that involves remnants of previous villains factions working together to finally take out the rangers and this will cause rangers to reunite once again.
Oh I guess the Gokaiger vs Goseiger movie doesn't exist.

This comic expanded Power Rangers mythos in such a amazing way.
I personally loved shattered grid its really awesome and badass and nothing would make me happier but to see a animated series by netflix
This was Power Rangers Crisis on Infinite Earths and I loved it
I remember watching MMPR when I was 6 years old. The Shattered Grid storyline gives me goosebumps.
I admit this REALLY energized my love for the franchise to the point I not only hunted down the individual issues but also bought the collector's edition hardcover of the event. It really felt like a love letter to fans who have been with the franchise and knew every team and I think they even snuck in some Sentai nods but I'm not sure.
Another thing you didn't mention is this event also got it's own expansion of the same name for the tabletop game Heroes Of The Grid including the Hyperforce team, Jen from Time Force, and Lauren from Super Samurai.
15:22 On top of this, the Hyperforce team was brought in to participate in the comic too. You can see them in the line up at 10:43 ahead of Ninja Storm and you can see their megazord in one of the fight panels.
They're easily my favorite new team to come out of the post-Disney era, so seeing them in the panels as comic canon blew my mind. I mean, come on; Bulk as a ranger? Shantae's VA as a ranger?? The Sudarso brothers making a return?! BLACK NERD AND STRAWBURRY?!?! They knew how to get me.
And now, 3 years later, Hyperforce is getting a one-shot comic under the Power Rangers Unlimited series (where we got other one-shots like Phantom Ranger and Death Ranger in the comics universe) taking place after the RPG season ended. Written by Meghan Camarena.

I need to read this, today is the day. What helped is, I just watched Linkaras history of Power Rangers, where he goes over EVERY season of Power Rangers, so I have way more knowledge of them than before.
Another point to know is when they reform the universe they lose their memories about it. That's why this event is never brought up in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV episodes.

the comics is a different continuity.
Mmpr in the tv take place in the time it comes out, while the comic takes place in morden time in another universe if you are saying the main power rangers universe, then yes the event is canon because it happened and but no one remembers like you said. Also since there has been a cross over that Tommy hsd the master morpher and dr k showing up in beast morpher and mentioning dino charge that take place in another universe, we could possibly see something like shatter grid happens if we the fan ask it but who knows
The show came out in the 90s. The comic is set in the modern era which means this a different universe.

7:06 There's a _lot_ more going on there than just Wargreymon. The face, horns, wings and back-leaning slouch all look very familiar to me but I can't put my finger on them. The tiger head on the chest is 100% for certain based on GaoGaiGar though.

I realized Drakon's suits changed, but I never knew how/why they were. So that's an awesome detail!

I really need to read this comics. English is not my native language, so it takes me a long time to read comics. Until now I finished only volume 1.

This should be a animated movie or series my favourite moment was when the other rangers showed up as different coloured meteors I need see that in live action or something because that was truly an endgame moment

I feel like the Power Rangers comics deliver on the promise of the concept better than even the show could do. Like, this is the story I thought I was getting through my rose colored glasses. If you could compare MMPR to the Adam West Batman, this comic is the Scott Snyder era all at once.
Honestly, as much as I love the Shattered Grid event, the whole thing DOES feel like a Jason David Frank ego trip. Especially given his super duper morphed from the TV

It's one thing that always plagues the MMPR current look. Something always has to revolve around Tommy. Going forward I would like to see less Tommy and more of everyone else.

Tommy is the guy that was most interested in staying in the franchise, so yeah, he gets a lot of attention. Johnny Yong Bosch is the second most involved, I'd speculate.
That scene where the Mega Megazord tears apart Serpentara is so bad ass. If Zedd were actually piloting that thing I know what he would say,"I'm going to tear those Rangers apart." Riping of steel,"Uh oh I stand corrected!"
0:54 I remember seeing the green Kyuuranger in an early version of this shot. That was easily the funniest thing about this event.
Just dont forget that Hammy cameo in that poster that was made when Gobusters as Power Rangers was taken as a lost chance.
Where are the Kyurangers? All I see out of the norm are the Hyperforce team and the Beast Morphers team, when we didn't know if they were the next season or not.

@@kainhighwind2 No wait I forgot, it as was an early poster that had Hammy on it. It also had oddities like the Dark Rangers (MMPR), SPD A Squad and some weird aliens of different species that vaguely resemble ewoks.
I would say the GraveZord looks more like Omnimon, which is a fusion of War-Greymon with Metal-Garururmon so it has elements of both.

@@l0sts0ul89 Two words. Spirit Evolution. Frontier was basically a Super Sentai season. Have the Human Spirits be the ranger forms, while the Beast Spirits are the Zords. Susanoomon can be the Megazord.

You know I thought to myself, "What if the Super Sentai be involved in Shattered Grid story?"
I mean, All of the Super Sentai teams are not tied to the Morphin Grid like their counterparts. But it would still be interesting to see the Super Sentai play an important role to Shattered Grid.
But a Power Rangers/Super Sentai crossover ain't gonna happen anyway sadly.
I was never a Power Rangers fan, but oddly enough, I did hear about people talking about Shattered Grid.
I always love when comics/games/etc do alternate histories (especially evil ones), So it was great hearing what this was about.
my goodness! i haven't been this excited over Power Rangers since my parents took me to see the first movie in theaters! what an amazing story, my 6 year old self's mind would just explode from the insane awesomeness!!
Another neat thing is that there are two episodes of an Actual Play show called Power Ranger Hyperforce that are canon to this event and take place before the live action video.
as a long time toku fan and table top gamer, i loved watching an official season of my second favorite toku show be a TTgame. andre as hyperforce blue was just icing.
They could have made the entire storyline animated. That way we could have certain former rangers return and not put on the ranger suits.
Now I want these Power Rangers to meet their Super Sentai counterpart.

@@youraveragemachine1013 I think there are universe or even multiverse busters in Sentai. I read in the VS Battle wiki that the Sentai heroes are stronger than their PR counterparts.

This was WAY more worthy of the title Legendary Battle.
Star Wars tried something like this with 'Shadows Of The Empire, which had media on every level except an animated piece or a new film. It was kind of like Episode 5-1/2, but it was hamstrung a bit by no actor involvement that I know of, being locked into set canon events (they attempted a rescue of Han from Boba Fett before he was delivered to Jabba - and just missed), and tried to have each media piece come from a different POV on the events which seemed cool, but meant you had to buy them all to get the full picture. The hero, Dash Rendar, was referred to as a Carbonite-Copy of Han, though his ship, The Outrider, was cool. It actually makes a cameo in the 1997 re-release of ANH.
But I have to see Shattered Grid as the real morphin deal for this sort of thing.
the fact that comics managed to make Jem and the Holograms and Power Rangers story heavy and character-focused, will always astound me
PR had already did that to an extent just not with MMPR starting with IN Space up until RPM that's 11 years of both story and character focus.
I'm curious if you remember the channel, Stan Lee's World of Heroes. It had some great shows, including my favorite, Bad Days. It'd be really cool if you did a video covering it's rise and fall into becoming MarvelousTV, a shell of it's former self that mostly just posts trailers and interviews.

One small correction. Saba didn't try to bore a hole in Drakkons head to 'save the Rangers from having to make the tough choice of killing him', he knew that they wouldn't do it, and *Drakkon needed to die*.
"Because Power Ranger" is so fitting. Love it. :) I wasn't big on Power Rangers after the very first season of the original in the US, but now I really gotta read this.
the show became profoundly better after Turbo and stayed good for 11 years after. now it sucks again.

10:43 I love how this includes not only a selection of basically every ranger team but it also has some sentai members, some which may or may never be adapted, which in the ranger multiverse means they do existed and are adapted in some form which I think is awesome. Like on the left there's power rangers beast morphers years before they did it as it's supposed to be the sentai version but now we can say it was beast morphers the whole time, I love the wide shots and their sometime inclusion of sentai members

So the Kamen Riders get a villain threatening to merge two worlds together destroying the earths, a one man army that kills every Rider being the leader of the original evil organization, and a man threatening to erase the franchise from existence.

So does anyone know if this comic let us know what happened to Jayden after the Samurai Rangers were taken out? I ask this cause from that panel with the Samurai Rangers when they were attacked, I didn’t see Jayden there so it seems like it was at the point of Super Samurai where Jayden left after Lauren showed up, so did we ever figure out if Jayden was able to stay out of the fight, if Drakkon’s forces found him and took him out, or if Jayden joined the fight after learning what happened to his team?

Really this isn't too different from the other power ranger team ups. Just more detailed and longer winded than usual.

Yep, Drakkon; New Dawn. I haven't read it just yet but there are also hints of Drakkon's return in the Ranger Slayer one-shot comic.
