Hi there. Thanks for the content. You say bike shops send you many batteries. It would be great if you would repair them and then on-sell them. These batteries are still horrendously expensive in Australia; over Au$1,100 for a 500! This makes having a spare or one extra for long day trips almost out of reach for many. Please offer these batteries for re-use. ☺
Hi, sure is good idea, but doing it properly takes time also. And the new cells also cost money, so tbh, it would cost 300-400 euro also I think... Other job will not let me... time....
Same issue here. I bought a second hand E-bike for USD 50.- !!! with a low battery. Bought the tools and cells and made myself a second battery. Total cost circa USD 120. All it took was checking to see which cells were dead (3 of them failed) and then regenerating them all. be careful though. You must "empty" each cell and then charge them individually to 2.7 Volts and only then can you rebuild your battery because otherwise the whole lot will go up in flames ........ Check elsewhere. It worked for me and I saved a hell of a lot of money. Only took a few hours.
Very interesting video! I'm right in the middle trying to find out why the Bosch Power pack 400 of my wife's Cube Elly suddenly died this morning. I have come to the point where I could open the top of the pack with a nylon tool that's used for removing the dash and door panels. However I have stopped my action out of fear of breaking the plastic fasteners. I will proceed later today and use an Allen wrench and some muscle power just like you did. Question... How are you going to fix the connecting strip back to the cells? Soldering them might cause an issue because the cells don't like heat. Besides the battery pack I also suspect the original Bosch charger to have some issues because on the plus and minus leads I cannot read a voltage. Will the charger be switched on only with the battery pack connected? If that's the case it's understandable why I don't get to see a voltage... As far I know there is no (replaceable) fuse inside the charger that can be faulty.
Hello what is the best battery (cell) model these days for the price please ? You mentionned the Samsung inr18650 35e but it was 2 years ago. Thank you for your help and happy new year !
Question - can I simply pull the tabs off and lay a bit of solder over the little sharp bits that are still on there from the spot welding so I can get good contact? I am not an electronics person but I do have a couple of battery packs with 18650 batteries in them that I'd like to salvage...
congratulations. Unfortunately I don't understand your language, I'm Italian, and I only watch videos. I try to ask you a question, based on your experience, is there a way to get the power out of that 500w Bosch battery pack, without connecting the cable to the bike? I managed by feeding the pin that uses the charger with 5 volts, but do you think I can use it in that way? thank you very much ... ps for the translation I used the online translator

hello, when I charge my battery 3 LEDs flash at the same time as if the battery is too hot or too cold when the temperature is normal do you know where it could come from? when I press the button to check its capacity it displays the 4 leds and turns off
Hi this is Stefano. I have a Bosh Powerpack 300 that it's not working, I think it's not the batteries but the electronic board. How can I reach to you? Can you repair for me if I send this battery to you? Thanks!
Hi, I do not do repairs. Just go to your local bike shop and have your battery tested. You will receive a printout with the "problem" and or the remaining capacity of the battery. This will cost you not much.
i have a 36 V Bosch 400 Powerpack!! the BMS is down(Flatkable) and 4.Cells are with low Voltage!! The other Cells are fine (3.8 V) . Can i use this Pack to build a 7.S 24 Volt with New BMS. Regards Johannes from Germany.
When you short circuit one or two battery cells, can you still salvage the other battery cells? Or are they all dead now because they were all connected?
@@alternatypje Most of the time you would do it manually you would have to check what series of batteries are bad usually it's only one battery in the series but if that is bad you lose some range in the battery.
I also found out if you cut the metal strip at the battery so you have to flaps spot welded to the battery. You can just twist one and one with some pliers at the battery, and get the spot welds easaly off. Hope this was understanderbal.
Hi there, yes I did manage to save the cells, but It was time consuming. Putting them in the Opus or Liitokali charger did not work. Jumpstart them with full cells also failed. In the end I tried to put cells in a cheap USB battery bank (18650 cells of course) and this started charging very slow at very low voltage. Once 3+ volt, I could charge with Opus.
Hi i have a bosch battery it charges 75 per cent when i try it on The bike it work for somme minutes than it switches off. I opened it The battery packis 36 volts it is something wrong with The mother board slo you sell The boards
Hi there, it's a great video! I have one of those 500 with a warranty off. It's charged correctly and I still use it. But is only one thing - after mounting it on sometimes the power goes off and sometimes back on again. Looks to me that something is bad with mounting contacts or inside. I use an electronic cleaner it might need to use something else instead. Thx if you give some hint for that approach.
Please be careful with deep discharged cells, I have read some veery interesting stuff about them . Here some I found :If the voltage on a Lithium-ion cell drops below 2V, bad things start happening. At the cathode, the oxygen in a Lithium Cobalt Oxide or Lithium Manganese Oxide cathode can break down over the course of a week or two. For a Lithium Iron Phosphate cell, the oxygen breakdown is even faster. At the anode, when copper foil used as the current collector it can dissolve in the electrolyte, increasing the self-discharge rate of the battery, and parcipating out as metallic copper when recharged, potentially even shorting out the cell.
Hi, like your comments. However, I also leave all my cells fully charged and after about a month, I remeasure voltage. If voltage is still above 4.1V, then it is ok for me. Other cells are removed and brought to recyclers.
@@Sailingandelectronics be careful 4.1 is on limit after 1 month and can be a sign of some copper melted in electrolyte . Keep an eye one them . Sorry y ask ? Are you German ? Your accent is same as my parents in low . I read an article about what it can happen on a deeply discharged internal cell , if I find it I while send to you . Always good to know more about them for everyone . Nice hobby by the way. I wish I had more time for it .
Hello. Thanks for your vídeo. It helped me to open a PowerPack 500 and change the front cover of the battery. I would like to ask you something: i have one Battery that doesn't work and i suppose that the problem it's related with the integrated circuit in the PowerPack. Do you know where to get a new circuit (or a working circuit) to replace the old one? Thanks for your Vídeo.
I thought that as soons as the BMS is disconnected from the cells it will destroy itself, as a sort of protection measure by Bosch against DIY practices.
The newer powerpack BMS tends to do this, this one here is a bit older. Bosch definetly puts more effort in protecting their business than protecting their cells in the packs! They dont take much care in balancing the cells and tend to overcharge them for an early death. Great for new business!
The Germans also put anti- tamper devices in bombs in WW2 but UK boffins got wise & found a way round it, so it must also be possible to get around Boschs anti home repair system.
