  • The REAL reason Republicans and their rich friends, the Koch Brothers, must overturn ObamaCare, and it has nothing to do with individual mandates.

    It cost over 6 trillion dollars to fight the Iraq and Afghanistan war and over 2 trillion to fight the Viet Nam war, and if you listen to the Republicans it is more honorable to help other countries with their problems than it is to help Americans get afforable health care. Does this stupidity make sense to you? If you are going to give other countries your money, your young men and women lives, why in the hell would you not want help Americans live better off their own money?

      The Vietnam war was expanded and fought under Democrat rule of Lyndon B. Johnson who was president from November 22, 1963 - January 20, 1969. Why are you blaming the Republicans for that. I know, cause ignorance and lying are the qualities needed to be a democrat.

      Their are over 16 millions people now on Obama Care and they love it. Most people in the south hate Obama care (only because the President is Black) but the highest number of people that get federal assistants is poor southern whites.

    Government provided healthcare for those who are too poor to afford it is not socialism or communism, it's common sense and basic human decency.

    • @tripzero0
      @tripzero0 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      State ownership of the means of producing [healthcare] meets the technical definition of socialism. It might be common sense and "basic human decency", but it's socialism nonetheless.
      Now why you would want Trump and John McCain running your healthcare system is beyond my comprehension. But maybe I lack common sense. With Direct Primary Care as an alternative, why would you ever want Republicans to run your healthcare system?

    • @13MikeTravels

      Kevron Rees what's wrong with socialism in the first place. let me guess...I grew up during the cold war too. they force fed me that but it turns out all the European countries are socialist and they seem happy

    • @GGLEEME
      @GGLEEME 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Kevron Rees Government does not run the Healthcare. They mostly oversee it and fund it and set rules and regulations to keep things fair. Doctors own private practices and hospitals are run by health professionals not be bureaucrats.
      Learn how something functions before you criticize it. Your TH-cam learned economics are sad.

    • @tripzero0
      @tripzero0 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "Kevron Rees Government does not run the Healthcare"
      Not sure what system you are referring to... there are many models. If it's privately run, it's private "provided" healthcare, not government provided. Apples and oranges, mate.
      Now if government funds a tightly controlled private healthcare, that's technically "fascism", not "socialism".
      "Your TH-cam learned economics are sad"
      Pretending to know me? Where did you study economics from again?

    Hello Huck! My condolences on Trump getting elected. Obamacare was flawed but it was at least a good effort to bring health insurance coverage to those who couldn't afford it. I am an American who lives in Japan and enjoys a single-payer national health care system. It isn't free, we pay premiums out of our salaries for it but the copays and costs are much, much less than Americans pay. Needless to say, there is no pre-existing condition weasel-out clause, everyone gets coverage. My wife needed major surgery for stomach cancer. She spent one month in the hospital and we paid ZERO, thanks to the national health insurance and a special fund administered by the city to assist with additional health expenses. It works. It's a life saver. It's cheaper. Why do the Republicans oppose it?

    The problem is, America is run by a corporatocracy in which a handful of conglomerates are on top of every industry; a handful of oil companies, a handful of pharmaceuticals, a handful of insurance companies, weapons manufacturing... These corporations pay for elections, and elected officials have to pay back when in office! Hence, healthcare in the U.S. in monopolized by the big insurance companies and the big pharma who own the government, and any attempt for an affordable healthcare as in any other industrial society will be met with fierce resistance!

    Another important point, and the GOP knows this, is that the ACA would be far more effective than it is now simply by getting more states involved with the exchanges. Like Social Security and Medicaid, the strength is in the numbers, the more that signs up, the more effective it is. GOP governors refuse to get their states on board, and the irony is their states are the ones that need the ACA the most. Think about it.

    Outstanding,, a clear voice of reason. I also am in this situation, I can't literally cannot afford the medication that actually improves my condition, etcetera. We need to end free health care for the congress, the senate, the Supreme Court, and the president. They need to live with the same coverage they provide for the People. Better still we should all get the same coverage that the lawyers and billionaires that rule us have now. Why am I not surprised his hospital wouldn't accept Cash in Advance. He offered to pay 3 times the estimated cost in cash, in advance, and was told he had to have an insurance card, or no operation. Life and death games...

      Fat Panda it was mostly because we preferred the public option. Obama assumed by using the old republican health care mandate system he would garner bipartisanship support as you well remember during his first term he preached about it often. However, republicans rejected and Congress ended up passing it without republican support. Many of us were annoyed that he curtailed his views for the sake of bipartisanship, rather than doing what was right for the country.

    • @GGLEEME
      @GGLEEME 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      blackearl7891 The Public option was removed because ONE independent Senator would not vote yes until it was removed. (What a asshole) The Democrats did not have the required 60 in the Senate to pass the bill so compromises were made. Obama got lucky because AL Franken got elected and one Senator switched teams from Republican to Democrat. After the passing if ACA Ted Kennedy died and got replaced with a Republican and they lost the filibuster proof Senate.

    Here in the United Kingdom, we've had our National Health Service since the end of World War 2. While it has its problems, very few people can imagine its withdrawal. So popular is it that the NHS has been called our national religion. I cannot comprehend the situation that prevails in the USA (although Huck's video has been a great help in clarifying the fog). Just as I, assuming I make it to heaven, would be miserable if there were people suffering in hell, so I would be miserable to live in a country where healthcare is not for all. Happily, it is. You in the U.S. have great problems with your rich. They need to be taxed until their pips squeak, and they recover a sense of decency and humility. I wonder how many of these super-rich would follow Andrew Carnegie's ambition: to die having given his money away. He may have been a robber baron, but he had a sense of decency and integrity that won through. I wish that conversion for yours, but they might have to be pushed to the place of enlightenment kicking and screaming.

    You are right, but there is one more giant issue. If a good healthcare bill is passed people will not need to be so religious. Church going will drop. A lot of people are with a church community because they need to be. Its the only place where you can get help if you are realy in trouble. With a good healthcare bill a lot less people will get in trouble and so can afford to not be religious. The main base of the republican party is the religious right. If the religious right shrinks is will become impossible for the republican party to ever get a man/woman in the white house. They need to stop Obamacare or they will never have the presidenty again.

      I dare to go even further. Europe is far less religious than the US. That is because they don't need to be so religious. Same with Canada. Canada is in the same region as the US, but less religous and more left wing and has better healthcare.
      In ancient times only monastries did any form of healing. In the dark ages barber surgeons in monastries started modern day medical care. Today is seems religiousity works against medicine.

    Americans don't earn much nor have more than 1 or 2 wk holidays pa. I feel sorry that they can't afford the health care they require. I have lived in the UK and Australia where health care is free. Australians average 4wk pa holidays. My salary is much higher than an average American and I'm only a teacher. Sometimes I think to myself that America is simply a third world country. They have reaped the end result of capitalism with extreme difference in rich and poor. They bankrupted most of the world with the Lehman Bros and their fake AAA rated mortgages by greedy banks. Most Americans are very poor and unemployed. Most have bad teeth due to lack of dental care as it is too expensive. Now in desperation they voted in Trump. Good luck America. Good luck to all of us. Is he really the leader of the free world?

    Thank you, this is every bit as relevant today, in the wake of the far-right ACA repeal process. Your explanations were quite informative and fact-based. Another point in favor of the ACA that may have not been the case when you made this video is that it has since provided a considerable amount of solvency to Medicare, which Paul Ryan never ceases to distort or outright lie about when he erroneously claims that Medicare is somehow unsustainable. I hope that you can hold on to your insurance, we are in for a rough ride going forward led by economic illiterates and pseudo-scientific cranks....

Also Canada made an agreement with the Pharmaceutical Companies way back when. to keep costs low for drugs, antibiotics etc Far lower than US Americans have to pay. I have no idea why the US could not come to an acceptance idea based on other Countries. Oh wait...Greed comes to mind!! I brought my Mother in Law who was diagnosed with bone cancer to all her treatments, chemo etc. She paid Nothing for one year of treatment and was declared free of cancer!! I love my Country and I especially love our Health System!!!

    I had the same problem. Laid off during the recession, i went without health insurance for 6 years until the ACA made it (barely) affordable. The company i used to work for would selectively hire people who already had healthcare through a spouse or were on Medicare to avoid paying health insurance premiums. The cost of health insurance has been drastically increasing and the benefits decreasing for the last 30 years. The only people who think that Republicans are right are those already getting healthcare from an employer (don't count on it lasting much longer), those who haven't had a major illness yet (give it time, it WILL happen) or those wealthy enough to pay the cost out of pocket.

    This video is still relevant even today as the AHCA has been pulled from voting. They will continue to try and repeal this bill to benefit their donors. They don't care about anything else.
    Or, the will let the ACA continue and find ways to defund it so it has no choice it to "fail" and blame the democrats as they always do. It's a shame the poorest citizens have to suffer because of greed.

    • @traczebabe
      @traczebabe 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow are you misinformed. This video paints hard working people as selfish. Not true. Marxists always put what they do on the other side. Obamacare is paid for by hardworking tax paying Americans that have insurance through their job. It also allows lazy people to get insurance on the tax payers money. The paperwork has caused an exodus of drs leaving the field. Most drs have to stop seeing patients one day a week just to fill out obamacare paperwork, obamacare has created drug addicts another reason drs have left. Nobody gets a payout from obamacare, and it costs more in taxes for people who are already paying for insurance. It also creates a way for the government to decide what happens to your body. They can refuse care to anyone and have, those they don’t deem worthy to pay money for to live. Plus taxpayers pay for Medicaid & Medicare. And welfare. There is no need for it, the only reason it was started was for control. Do your research instead of believing anyone that can make a video!

    In the first minute I understood your position. I am 55, and lost my job about a year after the crash of 2008, because of that. Previously, I had only once interviewed for a job and not gotten an offer. Since then, I have interviewed for lots of jobs and not gotten one offer. I have supported myself doing consulting work. I had the good fortune to bump into an HR person from one of the companies at a bar. Perhaps it was the he had a few drinks in him, but he apologized and told me that it was not my qualifications, or even my age per se that was the reason, but that a younger person costs much less in healthcare.

    95% insurance policies are provided at the workplace or under Medicare or Medicaid. For this 95%, what Obama said applies ... if they are happy with their policy, they can keep it. Roughly 5% buy it on the individual market, and only those changed since the ACA was passed are no longer valid. Those unchanged since 2010 are grandfathered in. But I'm sure opponents of the law can find no shortage of that group to raise the red herring ... er flags.

    Preventive care is the key. Profit has no place in the health care system. Community clinics would be staffed by PAs, nurses, med techs and EMTs. Anybody could walk in and take care of non-life-threatening conditions. Services could include a nominal fee to help cover expenses. No insurance involved. Life threatening conditions would be treated at full service hospitals. The costs for this system would be a fraction of today's crazy insurance based, for-profit system.

    Why are other countries such as Canada, the UK, Germany, Australia, and all developed countries have National Health Insurance but the US, while spending trillions of dollars do not have one? Why is the US population's average life expectancy is lesser than the developed countries? Should we simply kill the poor, the working class? What is the role of a government? This is not even about democratic credo but the very basic citizenship rights! In spite of ideological differences the people ought to play active political roles by identifying candidates who stand for the interest of the people and vote for them to assume office. It is time to participate. If wee fail then someone will do it for us but not they way it has to be but the way he wants. Be proactive, participate on issues dear to the people!
