I totally agree, yet despite agreeing I always fear doing this because I feel like many people act inconvenienced by sharing. And as a woman I feel like I have been socially conditioned to not want to “bother” anyone.

I put things in my cart, then hit ‘save for later’. If I goes on sale and I still need it, I’ll buy it, but only if I truly NEED it. I also live by the ‘one in, one out’ rule, so if I bring something into the house, that means I have to say goodbye to something I already have.

@MrsThollo yes! I get my dopamine hit just by putting something in my cart. Or making lists (wish list or whatever). I don't like shopping in person or spending money on my wants, so this is my way of having a little fun.

I work 50-60 hours a week at a high-stress corporate job. Trying to cook, clean, take care of the house and everyone in it was causing me so much stress and exhaustion that I decided to do the opposite: I started looking into convenience services. I hired a cleaning company to come every two weeks - I still do daily and weekly light cleaning, but I leave the deep cleaning to the experts. I also started online grocery shopping and opting for delivery instead of curbside pickup. By doing those two things, I'm saving my sanity. I have more time to actually breathe and sit down with my family every night. I am barely at home as it is, so this way my husband and son get to see me and talk to me, and I get to be with them - not be around them while I do chores, but BE with them. Ohh and meal planning and online grocery shopping are amazing money savers!! Totally worth the $10 delivery fee, and I would say I'm saving enough to even cover the cleaning fee, so it's a win-win!!

Ordering groceries online and getting curbside pickup is the best thing ever - and the best convenience as well as cost saving service to come out of the pandemic!! I will never again waste time and extra money (yes, talking about those end-caps and mid-aisle temptations!) and interrupting nap times and my precious free time in the grocery store. Ohhh, I've heard the idea to wait a week, but never to buy all your purchases for the week on one day! That's genius and would definitely be more helpful for me than just waiting a week on each individual purchase on my wishlist because those little things adding up really are what get me!
I love doing grocery pickup! Then on the few occasions when I do go in to shop, it's more less of a drudgery because it's so rare. Grocery day can already be exhausting without having to walk around the store and then carry things inside, meal prep, and put things away!

I can't do online grocery shopping. I have to pick out my own produce. I don't want to be given something as a replacement for what wasn't available. I don't need an extra person touching my food after who knows how many people already have. I am just very particular and they never seem to verify that all the eggs are unbroken.

In my experience they're good with produce, we almost always get nice pieces. Exception can be pre packaged fruits/veggies, they they might miss a bad piece inside a plastic box so we need to exchange... Which is annoying, but hasn't happened very often. And bonus that I can never trust myself with avocado but they seem to know how to choose good ones 😁

I prefer getting my own groceries & other shopping. I need to see the items, try on clothes & shoes,... The home shopping & deliveries are what makes it hard to keep brick & mortar stores open! Long live the local stores!

I think it's usually a good idea to have a back up plan. If you have a flat tire thursday at 4, you may not be able to take care of that issue and fix dinner. But, instead of hitting the drive thru or opening up uber eats, a less expensive back up plan may be cans of ravioli kept in an out of the way place at home in your kitchen.
Also, i just decided i want a cake stand and it's all your fault. Bht instead of amazpn I'll look at arc which is a thrift store here in the denver area.

I would beware of subscription purchases. Sometimes you're buying something you don't need anymore and it's cluttering your cupboard while eating away at your budget. I do buy off my daughter's wedding registry because these are gifts she and her husband have chosen, they can be received in a couple of days, and if it's a large, bulky item I can have it shipped to their house because there's 2 of them to move the item.

Unscientifically I found that shopping at a dollar store or a thrift store gave me almost the same dopamine feeling as shopping new. Not always, but if I buy a few things I don't totally, absolutely need. I haven't overspent by that much. If I start to feel guilt, I give it back to the thrift store.

    • @serenakoleno9338

I totally agree. When life is irritating and you know shopping will give you a dopamine lift, hitting the thrift store or dollar store gives you a guilt fre cheap thrill, and as you said you can donate it back. And sometimes at the thrift store you find a treasure for pennies that brightens your day.
Once I walked into a thrift store and found a set of 4 made in Italy spaghetti bowls that went with the dishes I had from the same company.

Kallie, I so agree with meal planning. I’m retired and lack of time is not the issue it was, when I worked and had children at home, but knowing what I’m cooking for supper every night is so relaxing and reduces anxiety. I live in a rural area, where I have to drive 45 minutes or more to grocery shop. So I enjoy getting out and schedule all of my other errands for the same day. I make a thorough list and, for the most part, I’m able to stick to it. As far as ordering online, like Amazon, I have a huge Save For Later, that I use to prevent impulse buying. I often go through the list and delete items that I realize are not needed. I guess, for me, it comes down to discipline, it’s hard, but even as a retired couple, money just isn’t going as far, so we have to be smart. Thank you for all,of your suggestions 🙂

  • @BannersglareTheDreamWriter
    @BannersglareTheDreamWriter หลายเดือนก่อน +12

I don't think it's an issue that it's hard, rather it has more to do with whether you prioritize saving money or saving time. When you use personalized convenience services, you would have the mindset of prioritizing saving time, whereas preparing your own meals with frugally purchased ingredients means you are prioritizing saving money. I guess it depends on what circumstance you are in, at that point a saving budget becomes more situationally observant. When you have a family like in your circumstance, you would have to compromise by saving money in most instances and saving time in a few instances.

    • @oxigen85

      Exactly.
Buying second hand is great, but it can take a lot of time to find what you need for a good price and good quality. (I can't do second hand stores, I get completely overwhelmed). One could use that time to work over instead and spend the extra money on convenience.

Ordering groceries online is one of my favorite things. It is a great concept. Always notice the sizes/prices. Taking the time to notice the details makes a big difference.

Date nights in just do not work for me as a mother, if I’m in the house I am seeing laundry that needs to be done, floors that need to be washed, thinking of the dishes and clean up from the food we’re having on this date night in, a kid wakes up and now you have to deal with that. To me the cost of leaving my “office” (the home) to rest that part of my mind and actually be with my husband mentally too is priceless, it happens less because of the logistics of planning it but boy is it so much more fruitful and quality time

Gina - with what app do order groceries online where you can look for sales and compare prices? Are you talking about comparing the same exact item at different stores or generically comparing the same item at the same store (like canned chopped tomatoes)? Just curious because I’m looking for the best way to shop for groceries online. TIA

    • @ginalombardi2507
      @ginalombardi2507 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@nancyadise3521 Nancy, After “shopping around” and finding a store I felt comfortable with, I chose it. After a few deliveries I decided to use that store, and I also signed up for a year of deliveries, no matter how many times I ordered. I no longer have to fret about how many times I order, and it costs about 8.00 a month for one delivery, but now when paid for the year I can order at least twice a month. Within the online shopping list are all the options for what ever I type in. It will give you the cost and the breakdown per oz or what ever unit of measurement so you can compare and contrast. It will also tell you what is on sale at a reduced price or if you buy more than one. It will also give you nutritional information including calories. With groupon I found a great coupon for BJ’s the big box store. It is too costly for me. I live alone so most stuff is just too big or two many. So with that deal I can use it now and then. If you have any other questions feel free to ask away.

Walgreens online pickup saves me so much money. I redeem my rewards, add manufacture coupons and Walgreens coupons. I saved $34 this week.
Haven’t tried the delivery service yet.

Love your content so much! As a legit cheapskate I do several of these things. I usually go to my Facebook community if I need something super simple or even something more expensive. I went to my friends list and asked if someone had a treadmill they wanted to sell or get rid of since mine had recently broke. Within a few hours I had two options, one was brand new and free. You would be surprised at how quickly people offer up options to borrow or even just take.

You are so right. When you look at the stats about clothes going into landfill when it does not take much effort to take things into charity shops to support good causes and to prolong the life of garments why do people throw away perfectly good clothes or household items?

I put things in my Amazon cart and usually get to actually ordering it a month or two later, saves me a lot of money. 😂 my husband does most of the grocery shopping, and he's a minimalist. Saves most of the money right there lol.

I learned how to only buy groceries 2-3 times a month by using fresh veggies first then frozen, canned or some kind of leftovers (like soup) on week 2. I always spend more than I expect when I do go to the store so limiting the amount of times I go per month really helps me stay in budget(:

Kallie, I have to agree with ordering groceries online. This month I challenged myself to see if i could bring our grocery's down $200 by ordering online. However yesterday we went into the store and ended up spending an additional $100 vs what i would have ordered online due to impulse purchases/ last minute wants. Still cut our grocery's from previous months however my husband and i agree online ordering is the way to go.

How do I get the meal planning printable? Question for everyone - when planning your "grocery" budget, do you add things like toilet paper, paper towels, washing detergent, etc., or just budget for food? It seems I always go over my weekly grocery budget, however, a portion of that is for things like pet food, laundry detergent, TP, etc. I'm just trying to figure out if I should only be looking at what I spend on actual food or if I need to readjust my budget to include all of those "other" things as well. I LOVE buying my groceries online. 1 byproduct of covid that I'm glad stayed. The time it saves me (not even counting the $ I save) is priceless to me.

I shop for all my paper goods, cleaning supplies, and beverages at Sam's Club. Those are non-perishable and easily stored. Meats, produce, frozen foods, bakery/bread, etc., I get at WM. That's how I keep my food budget separate. I also make my list with Alexa so I have it on my phone. Before I order, I look at my list to see what I've missed or what I really don't need.

I don't order eveyday things from places - I'm a kind of person who loves seeing people, talking with them, getting fresh air while out. I help support the local brick & mortar stores - because i have to try on clothes/shoes to make sure they fit right before I spend my hard earned $$. I prefer getting in our local grocery store - I know when the freshest meats & produce is put out (& when the best days are for clearance shelves!) and I've made friends with the produce manager (who is very kind & helpful), and other dept mgrs -- they make my day by greeting me with a friendly smile & I like being able to pass that on to those I meet in the store or elsewhere. We are missing out on making contact with people which is a sad commentary on our society - too many say they are lonely, sad depressed,...

If i buy from amazon i put the item in the basket and leave it 24 hrs. I have the buy now button switched off, i go through the basket and checkout the 'long way', that way it gives thinking time before i commit. We have bought very little online this year. I tried getting supermarket deliveries and got fed up with wrong items or the subs were not what we asked for, also i prefer to pick my own items.

I’ve shopped Thread Up several times and found that items ordered have rarely matched the descriptions…. As in….I didn’t expect ‘excellent condition’ items to have stains. I did get a great purse. Just beware.

I've shopped Thred Up once and bought 4 blouses. Two fit, 3 were final sale. So it's a gamble for sure. I got all 4 for around $55 because of final sale. Otherwise I think it's a little expensive for used clothing. Any if someone is sensitive to fragrance, beware. It's like they tumbled the clothes with scent beads, which I won't use myself. While they do give fiber content in the description, they don't give care instructions. Just somethings to be aware.
