    For anyone interested, here is a link to the video of the facility I took the bunnies to. They are a top-notch facility that we are fortunate to have serve our community!! th-cam.com/video/U53oYvic1hI/w-d-xo.html

    “We are supposed to take care of Gods creatures..”
    You, my friend, are a beautiful beautiful human! Thank you for sharing this with us. You handled this perfectly from the beginning and most of us wouldn’t be able to say the same if we were in your position. Also I think it’s so incredible that you recognized and pointed out that the mama bunny knew that predators wouldn’t be able to get to her babies with them right behind your garden fence. I wouldn’t have even thought about that but it makes perfect sense. Man God is so good! Thank you again! You have inspired me!

      Thank you Kimmy, I don't know how I missed your comment, but thank you for your kind words! It seems as if the negative comments never fail to show in the inbox, but the positive ones get lost in many cases! Inspiration can come from many places on this earth, to think a little video that I made provided a little positive inspiration to someone inspires me as well, and I'd have never known about it if it wasn't for your kind words here, thank you! Your comment will surely inspire me to continue to take the camera along with me on my journey. The funny thing about the whole thing is I almost did not film the rabbit encounter. I figured who would want to watch something like this? I have much more valuable content on how-to type videos and things of that nature, but this video has been amazing in terms of the views it has received, I would have never figured! Oh well, it is a learning experience, and I am glad to learn that albeit for just a moment in time, to know that my video impacted a soul is priceless! God Bless!

    Thank you for saving these little critters. I've been fascinated and captivated with rabbits ever since I was little, and am taking care of a cute Netherland dwarf. His friend sadly passed away last year, aged a little over 11. Cautious and clever creatures.

    • @AccuracySpeaks
      @AccuracySpeaks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, "boy" you got that right!! He is spoiled plum rotten as well as all the other varmints 'round here! Here is just a glimpse of the schedule in the day of the life of ol' "Beefy" aka Tigger... Between the hours of 6 and 7 am, jump up in the windowsill of our bedrooms' bathroom window and meow and pop the screen with his claws until someone lets him in through said window. As the bathroom window is raised, let out multiple meows and purr extra loud, pick feline up and pull inside through the window, place gently on the ground as to not injure a leg due to the excessive bulk from the "healthy" appetite. Once inside, he will begin attacking the "ol' Lady's ankle with lovebites and epidermal scratches until his breakfast bowl is presented to him in his personal, private, isolated breakfast nook better known as the kitchen. It is of the utmost importance that he must be fed separately from the other kitties around here due to his aggressive appetite and temper alike! He is a red-head after all and has the temper to back it haha! He is known to beat up, steal, and eat the bowls of all other felines around here at feeding time, hence the isolated breakfast area! Once breakfast is complete, he will either decide to go outside for a few minutes to bask briefly in the morning sun or just call it a morning and head straight back to his lair which consists of a "Kingsize" bed (pillowtop Serta with specialized featherbed atop the cloudlike mattress. Atop "his" bed is his own extra-plush "cat" bed (used to be our dogs' bed) that has a massive crater dead-center due to the excessive bulky frame he possesses! Naptime runs from around 7am to 7pm, usually uninterrupted unless he needs a mid-day snack usually between 3-5pm. Between the evening hours of 5-7 pm, he will wake and start all over with his assault on the ol' Lady's legs again upon her arrival home from work. Once again, he is presented his very own food bowl in isolation due to the temper issues with the other kitties. Upon completion of his dinner, he will then head outside to hang with his sister and the other felines from the neighboorhood on our back deck and driveway (none of the cats ever stray far from the house). Between the hours of 7pm and 7am, he will lounge usually on or under the deck until his stomach rousts him for his breakfast once again the following morning. This is his daily routine unless of course, the weather is less than desirable. If the weather is bad, he will bring the operation indoors into his garage through a 24hr accessible cat door allowing access to their garage stocked with all the amenities (food, water, and multiple fresh beds with the appropriate bedding materials such as fresh blankies! Sorry for the epic story here, but this is really just how spoiled this cat really is lol!! Take care and thanks for watching and commenting!

    This is a beautiful thing. I must admit, I thought for sure you automatically assumed they were abandoned when I read the title. I'm my local counties Wild Cottontail rehabilitator and so many times people take the babies because they don't see the mom.
    Thank you so much for taking the time to research and contact professionals before just taking them. I wish more people had this common sense. You did a great thing! Thank you!

    • @AccuracySpeaks
      @AccuracySpeaks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, no I usually try not to assume anything, even though I have a fairly decent background with wildlife, however, that's much of the problem with this social media stuff, too many people are too quick to assume and not use their heads with all the facts before they unleash their tongues in the comment section. Kudos to you my friend for using a little logic and reason before spouting off at the mouth from a video title. That's one of the weaknesses of the human condition I'm afraid, too quick to form an opinion and to judge someone, and in many cases they are quickly proven wrong. Thank you for taking your time to help your local Cottontails, I'm sure they are in excellent hands, and I'm sure it is some pretty demanding work! If you have absolutely nothing to do with a few minutes of your time, take a few minutes to stroll through the comments on this video, a whole bunch of ignorant people advertise their intellectual shortcomings for the entire world to view. Being that said, I still think kindness ultimately prevails! I think most of the negativity comes from kids and trolls for the most part....

      Thanks, although, you may consider consulting some of the professionals down below in the TH-cam comment section for your advice on abandoned rabbit rescue lol! Hopefully your mama will return to the kits, mine did not. In fact, I haven't seen her since I found the babies. I am pretty sure something got her, as I used to see her on a regular basis prior to discovering the nest. Good luck, and I recommend consulting a wildlife professional for advice with your find. That's what I did, and it helped me tremendously! Thanks for watching and commenting!

      I did today and she actually asked me to keep an eye on them and if it seems like mama isn't coming back then to take them in like you did. She said it's ok for me to pick them up to check their bellies and if they have any mites on them. I'm gonna check on them tomorrow later in the morning. I hope she comes back.

    • @AccuracySpeaks
      @AccuracySpeaks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sweet! Yeah, they pretty much told me the same thing! It was calling for some serious rain when I found these, and I'm pretty sure they would have drowned without mama as the soil is pretty much solid clay and the water ponds up very quickly. Being that said, I ultimately wanted to leave them for mama to tend to, and if she hadn't gone missing, I would have surely left them for her to tend to them. Anyhow, good luck with yours and I'll say a little prayer for you all tonight!! Good luck!

    I just found a nest in our garden...well my small dog found it. Thankfully it was not hurt and now all five are back in the nest. I did the "stick test" and it's been unmoved for 24hr and am trying it again tonight per the wildlife rescues near me recommendation. I am curious about how big were they in inches? The ones we have are only 3-4 inches and eyes are still mostly closed so I know they are still really young. We are in a difficult situation because both wildlife rescues are at capacity and would only humanely euthanize them. I'm trying to find an alternative situation since my family cannot care for them and our dogs would most likely kill them. I'm asking about the size of yours because I'm wondering how old your's were since you mentioned the rescue thought they would've left in about a week had the mom come back. Thank you for your kind words. It sounds as if the ones I found were nearly the same size as the ones you describe. Wow, that's a tough one, I hate to hear your facilities won't take yours. That presents quite the challenge essentially for just yourself. I don't think I would entertain the idea of the center euthanizing them, that just sounds silly to me, I could do that myself, but not all folks are experienced with that. Gees, I hate that for you! I don't really know what to tell you. For me, taking them to a strange place and having some people essentially inject them with a toxin that'll poison them till death is just not really in the natural balance of life or the earth, but I guess the ultimate result would be essentially the same without intervention, perhaps. I guess if you didn't need them gone immediately, you could just let nature take its course, you know, I'm sure the same scenario takes place time and time again across the globe each year without intervention. You at least tried to do your part with a positive intervention. But to take them somewhere for folks to kill em', Nah, that's not for me at least. I wish you the best with your particular situation, and I hate the very types of situations we are currently discussing, they make life very challenging for folks that have a little bit of compassion within. I will say a prayer that you are provided with some guidance to assist you in your decision. It sounds as if your heart will guide you towards the correct path from what you've already described to us all here. God bless you.

    HI, I enjoyed watching! 😊 We have gone through a similar experience having found 5 kits in our front yard 🐇🐇🐇🐇🐇
    We put a trail cam 📸 close to the nest but the mom did not return. Sadly within two and a half weeks, four of the kiits had died. 😔 The 4th bunny to die hit me the hardest as I watched the little fella go down hill quick (read they tend to swallow their hair when grooming and gets stuck in their tract) .
    Fed them 3 times a day a mixture of goat's🐏🥛 milk, whipping cream &🥚 yolk. Cleaned the card board box every morning and put down fresh grass.
    Today we released the only one to survive, cutest bunny ever. He was bright eyed but becoming harder to handle and feed.
    He was ready to hop away and start his own family, hopefully.
    God's little creatures. 👍

    Wonderful!!! You really don't need to explain your reasons for saving these babies. The fact that you did shows a big heart. I'm no hunter but wouldn't the camera/sticks and tarp make the mom extremely cautious? I know alot of animal mom's will stay away from the nest if they sense/smell anything that could put their babes in danger.
    Like I said I'm not a hunter, but I love watching animals in the wild.

    That's about the size that my resident wild mother rabbit usually lets go of her babies. She might have just ended her motherhood duties to them and they have to get hungry before they move out on their own. They look real healthy. KNow what u mean about mother bunnies hiding their nests well. I knew I had a mamma living in my yard cause I fed her often, but i didn't know where her nest was even after seeing 2 litters get big enough to come out for me to see. Finally on her third litter i found the nest by accident while planting peppers! 8 more cute little babies.
    Good luck brother

    I have seen several videos where people were able to nurse the kittens so they were old enough to be released. People used a syringe and a formula used for nursing them I think it is similar to what used for feline kittens. It should be easy to find. You can raise them on your own until they are old enough to be released.

      You're probably correct, but I'm not a professional, so they were taken to a professional wildlife facility to give them the best chances possible.

  • @lensman5762
    @lensman5762 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    You did the right thing by taking them to the experts who know how to take care of them.
    These are wild rabbits and without the mother have very little chance of survival unless another female rabbit adopts them, something that does happen in the wild. They are also a prey animal and this instinct is hard wired in them. They do not respond well to handling. They have no notion of human " cuddly toy " playtime and any handling stresses them to the extent that it can kill them outright. Their last defence is to act dead and hope that the danger goes away. The rabbit milk is also totally differnt to human and cows milk and these animals should not be fed baby milk or dairy. It is generally accepted that if the baby rabbit is old enough to venture out it has probably been taken off milk and are onto solids. They find thier own food. Lettuce is not a good rabbit food despite popular rumor. They love onion leaves, atleast here in the UK.

    The stick trick is a good idea; but a better pattern is to do the Tic-Tac-Toe (#) pattern so you can tell if it's been disturbed the first night. The X-pattern requires a good photographic memory. Yarn is also a good substitute as the mother rabbit can use that to insulate the nest.

Cat kill 500 million birds each year, by law the owners shouldn't let the cats out. But unfortunately they do it anyways. I believe they should have cat catchers like they have dog catchers, with a HEFTY fines to the cat owners they will think twice before they letting their cats out.

      Haha, I hear ya! Nah, I think ol' Beefy would've had to have exerted too much effort on eating poor Mama bunny. He's more into just helping himself to the unlimited buffet of kitty-cat food that my wife leaves out for the "foster" cats that she tends to daily. You see, we put a cat door in our garage door so the kitties have free reign to come and go as they please to get out of the weather etc. Well, being that is the case, we have a few neighborhood cats that like to hang out and snack from time to time in the garage, that is, until ol' Beefy catches wind of the situation. You see, he is a red-head after all, and he completely lives up to the hype, being he has quite the temper, lol!!, and doesn't take kindly to visitors eating "his" food! You'd think when I let him out into the garage from the door of the house, I was uncaging a tiger lol!! He rolls through the doorway into the garage like he is on a mission to kick some butt! Little does he know, the average tomcat could probably whip his butt. I don't know though, he's pretty scrappy and comes in banged up pretty regularly. Maybe he is a badass after all...We have a pretty scrappy mean looking Tomcat that comes in for food and he is terrified of ol' Beefy! Anyhow, thanks for your kind words, I'm glad you found a bit of enjoyment out a moment of one of my lifes' experiences.

    The mother rabbit only comes around once per day, or even less sometimes. She feeds them very quickly. (They can consume half their body weight in milk in a few minutes.) Then she covers them up and disappears again. This is a natural behavior to protect them from predators. She doesn't want to blow their cover.
    Contrary to popular belief the mother will not abandon them if they've been handled. You actually can take them out and pet them if you carefully put them back. It won't hurt anything.
    You don't know they're "abandoned" until they've been alone for at least 48 hours or so.
