I've been through a similar experience with a girl I thought was my best friend. Within a year of becoming her friend, she took my Church community, my friends, my family, ALL MY MONEY, my dignity, my pride and my hope. It was insidious and it's painful to watch this AMAZING series because I - for the first time ever - feel so much less alone. How badly I wish I could save Marty as I watch along...and how badly I wish I could have saved myself at the time.

I haven't yet watched the series, but I love these two actors, and the story sounds amazing. I experienced a manipulative friendship some years ago, to a far lesser extreme, but the age and state of vulnerability made the experience tremendously impactful. I'm only glad I could learn the signs at such a young age, but as they already touch on.. It can be quite impossible if you're in the wrong state of mind, and lead to the wrong places.

In real life, was the therapist sexually inappropriate as well, or was that never admitted by either??
