    I had never heard of Manly, until this weekend.
    When I had the knife (Patriot) in my hands, I knew it was a good knife! (I am a metalurgist myself), so I bought one and I am suprised by the quality. The craftmanship shines of this knife.
    After this vid I it looks to me that this is in the quality range of Helle and the other scandi knives.
    Keep up the good work.
    Cheers Ronald

    Picked up a Wasp this week. Absolutely love it. I knew it was too quality when I took it out of the box. Seeing the care and craftsmanship that goes into them just makes me love it even more.

    I am proud of this company. Not many companies mass-produce knives from the best steels in Europe.

    • @BushCampingTools
      @BushCampingTools  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A u know I've been there and everything I saw looked pretty good to me for sure. Europe certainly has some of the best steel in the world, but unfortunately the dominant market is still the USA and this is bolstered by the large social media force. (not to say they don't have some great steels, nor the Japanese ).

      Yeah, that's real skill at work. This guy is also one of their sharpeners as well as assemblers and finishers of components. In fact I noticed that all the staff there are multi-skilled. I have one of those drugar models and I thought the gimping was milled out LOL! When I saw him performing this I was thinking exactly what you commented!

      I guess that's just how it is with them. No short cuts were happening in that factory. I had full access to every procedure and whilst I'm not an engineer (briefly taught some metallurgy to 3rd year mech eng students,) they certainly were all looking serious about their work.

      The care and serious nature of the knifemakers in this factory blew me away-and why wouldn't they care? They all took their jobs very seriously. That video was completely un-staged as you can see, there were no "retakes" etc LOL. I had to exercise my skills (LOL) as a filmmaker (my real job BTW). I think they make great products and it has to have been the quickest ever purchase of a knife I can remember, when i bought a DRUGAR. In my hands for 5 minutes or less, then out wit the cash LOL, I was so impressed. It's a rare thing for me when it comes to buying stuff. Thanks for watching my stuff!

      @@BushCampingTools I do like it quite a bit. It carries very well and feels incredible in my hand. It's probably the best designed knife I've carried for my specific needs. I'll probably save up and get one in CPM-154 while they're still available. I Googled leather sheaths for the Manly Patriot and found a great one in Germany but there's not a translation feature on the website. I'll be carrying this knife for many years, it's taken a long time to find this great design.

    • @BushCampingTools
      @BushCampingTools  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well after my time there it was easy to see why. Small company wanting to make good their products. Staff were knife lovers and also knife makers in their own right too, not just working there for a wage. One can employ lots of image processing cameras on a production line checking for quality but at the end of the day the human eye is still used as a final check.

    I just watched this video and am sorry that I recently just heard of Manly knives. I am a fixed blade collector and have many nice knives that have fetched prices from $50 to $400. I have two of the Crafters, one in Walnut the other in Black micarta, both D2 steel. I can say that they are every bit as good as the Bark River knives and at 1/3rd to 1/4 of the price. They are the best knives I own due to craftsmanship, quality, price, and design. I paid $65 in US money for them from a shop in Europe. I am looking to add others to my collection as soon as possible. Do yourself a favor and buy one or two! No one touches a Manly at those pries!

      Hi Michael, check out my reviews of the Manly Drugar fixed blade, I saw it in a shop and 5 min later after handling it, it was in my bag! (of course after paying for it LOL!) I found the factory and was blown away and asked if they wouldn't mind a factory tour, hell why not eh? So you see that's what I think about their products. I have a small blog on one of their folders, the one which you see at the beginning of this video and a quick field review of it too. They are making some great stuff at really decent prices (heck I don't normally mention the goulash LOL).

      I don't know personally however, I would say that like any very popular knives and they def are (eg being even sold by Böker in Germany!) people will make fakes. My own experience with the couple of model I have and even looking at ones the other day in the shops, no way would they release some poorly made product. • @BushCampingTools
      @BushCampingTools  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure that depends upon many factors. Such as Kw; time, beam diameter; material thickness; type of steel material; cooling rates etc etc. Without serious analysis and microscopy of random samples, I would not personally suggest this is the case here (or any where). Higher accuracy can be had with the laser.

      Hi, I'm not so sure I can see the humour here. I worked with machine vision once and even if for example we look at such amazing assembly techniques as employed by say for example: Casio Japan, assembling some of their state of the art limited addition watches, the human eye is still one of the best methods for QC, especially for low volume runs. I also worked for a world leader in optics manufacturing and part of QC was also simply checking things by eye (not just the eye of course but with highly specialized machines and other optics but we are talking knife manufacturing here, not optics) If you can tell me a good example of even German technology where the human eye is not required at any step of QC then I'll laugh along with you. Thanks for watching and commenting. BTW are you an owner of any of their knives? Their folders are very well made.

      It seems that the “Eye” of the customers, are deciding quality control. So, I guess the “Eyes” have it. I know it appeals to my eve. I should have bought 2 Patriots, when I had the chance.

    I believe Manly Knives has gone out of business. I ordered and paid three weeks ago and they have not answered emails or chats or answered their telephone since then. Beware.

      Hi there, there is a lockdown occurring in Bulgaria right now on various businesses I think you should bear this in mind. Did you try to contact them via the facebook too?

      @@BushCampingTools Fair point and yes I have tried Facebook too. I live in France and most of the EU lockdowns have been lifted or recently restarted like in Italy. I will certainly delete or update this post if I find out that they are just suffering due to lockdown. Sucks for alot of businesses and they might as well. They could easily communicate though and/or post a note on their website. Thanks for the comment. Gives me hope!

    In the discrimination it says there D2 isn’t D2? Lol

    • @BushCampingTools
      @BushCampingTools  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      D2 is a generic descriptor for a particular set of elemental percentages, which characterise this tool steel alloy. There are many versions now of "D2", they simply use a German made version and it carries a different designation.

      @FPSNovaS 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BushCampingTools I do not believe this to be a truth, have a nice day. D2 has a specific make up and anything that isn’t d2 just isn’t d2... and 1.4116 is a different steel all on its own...

      @@FPSNovaS Hi, you are right but you have made a mistake with your numbers. In the video description it reads: " 1.2379" NOT 1.4116 as you state, this is indeed something else ie a stainless steel designation. Please read the description carefully.
